I would describe Jackie’s outfits as preppy. Jackie wears a lot of striped shirts, button downs / polo shirts and argyle sweater vests. She also wears lots of solid colored shorts and tops. Jackie tends to wear florals when she’s getting dressed up (like her party dress, or her doomcoming dress).
Colors: Mostly Blues and Yellows with the occasional Reds/Pinks/Corals.
Repeatedly Worn Brands: Polo, Ralph Lauren, and Gap.
Ideas of how to dress like Jackie:
• Layer an argyle vest over a white collared button down.
• Wear bright colored statement shorts.

i’m so sorry i took so long to answer this anon!! i’ve had so many thoughts, i just haven’t been able to articulate them. & ofc i hope you somehow still see this, even though it’s been a while
jackie is one of the girls who has a longer hospital admission post rescue. her body & immune system took many hits from being left out in the cold, which i imagine causes her to develop infections in while admitted.
she also has to have surgery to preserve & reshape the small remaining piece where she lost her ear. her doctors do their best to somewhat reconstruct things so that jackie will be able to use hearing aids.
but the big thing for jackie is food. she’s severely malnourished (they all are) on arrival and her stomach has shrunk. but beyond this, it is no longer functioning properly. this is because the stomach is a muscle - you use it or lose it. and jackie hadn’t been eating enough even before the plane crash so her stomach is completely out of commission.
as a result, her body struggles to tolerate the food that she’s given. a few bites are enough to have jackie doubled over with nausea and pain — and drinks like ensures or boost don’t go down any easier.
as her condition continues to decline, jackie is given a nasogastric (nose to stomach) feeding tube to deliver her nutrition slowly over the course of the day.
in my long story short au - jackie goes home with this. however, she doesn’t tolerate it well at all. the tube is just feeding the problem area and jackie’s stomach can’t handle the volume of, or digest the formula.
the rate she runs at her feeds at drops lower and lower until she’s hardly getting anything at all.
jackie becomes incredibly sick from this. she’s too fatigued to leave the apartment, her hair is falling out, she can’t think straight, and she blacks out nearly every time she stands. and on top of this, her entire vestibular system has been thrown off by the hearing loss in one ear. jackie struggles to balance, to walk normally, and to relearn spacial awareness.
eventually, after months of back and forth, jackie is diagnosed with severe gastroparesis (partial paralysis of the stomach) and SMAS (superior mesenteric artery syndrome) . this is a rare vascular compression between the stomach and intestines that makes it nearly impossible for food to get through. it can be caused by rapid weight loss and/or chronic malnutrition, which is how jackie ended up with it.
at this point, she’s switched to an NJ (nose to jejunum) tube, and eventually a surgical j tube in her abdomen. it bypasses her stomach and delivers food directly to her small intestine, past the compression & paralysis.
with tube feeds, jackie gets her energy back, gains back the weight she lost, and is able to start living a bit more normally. she can leave her house again, go out with nat, and experience life.
however, this is not without chronic pain & all the grief that comes with jackie’s conditions. her stomach is always hurting to some degree — even on her best days. and she struggles deeply with seeing her friends eat when she isn’t able to. jackie feels incredibly restricted and (especially when she’s regresses) has a very hard time with how unfair the whole thing is.
she’s never able to go back to the “before”, which is really hard for her. but over time, she’s able to adjust to her new normal. and this includes letting herself feel her grief.
I want to share a snippet of a fanfic i have been writing for the past few (maybe three?) months. It’s not finished and it’s far from being finished. But the first three chapters are written plus the timeline is pretty much planned. I’ve got a problem of starting fics that I never finish or continue but I feel like this one would (and is) different because It’s pretty much story accurate. At this point I’m just yapping but this is a jackienat roommates post-crash au, in which they get rescued during the first winter.
It’s more about them finding themselves and living in New York, trying to stay alive and happy.
