He checked for his wallet and keys, pocketing his phone in his jacket to reach out for the small girl. “Hey, no matter the sex, this kid is gonna know good music.” Which was Mason Speak for: i’m happy and I am gonna love this kid no matter what because they’re a piece of you. Interlocking their fingers, he double-checked that Payton had everything they needed before shutting the apartment door behind them, jiggling the knob to make sure it was locked. “Okay, let’s go.” Moments earlier he had been so excited —- and he still was —- but now the nerves had sat in. What if the doctor could sense what a screw up he was and suggested adoption immediately after birth or something? Could doctor’s even do that?
The blond tried to keep his breathing even as they made their way downstairs to the subway, making it just in time to catch the last one of the hour. It was only a short ride to Payton’s doctor’s office, but it felt like eternity, even though literally two minutes had passed. And then, “Can the doctor suggest adoption or is that, like, taboo?” He didn’t want to freak Payton out, but he didn’t want to get blindsided, angry and end up punching an old man (assuming that was who Payton’s doctor even way).
“I know it will, I know they will.” She correct herself, a small laugh escaping her lips. For the past few months she had been diving into Mason’s music, listening to his tunes along with him and getting to know the songs he’d loved for so long so that she could sing along with him or get excited when that certain song came on. Now, the two of them were going to get to share the music they both shared and loved with their new baby boy or girl. she was ecstatic and just wanted the wait to be over already, she wasn’t even sure if she’d make it through the train ride.
Her hand was intertwined into his as they walked down the subway, a big grin on her lips the whole time. She was excited, that was the only way to describe it, and she had so much planning to do when she finally found out. Her eyebrows furrowed at his question, her head raising off from his shoulder to look at him. “No, no... Mason, he knows we’re keeping the baby. It’s gonna be the same doctor from the first ultrasound we had.” She explained, pressing a small kiss to his cheek. “It’s gonna be okay, bright eyes.”
