Foreclosure
You live inside my ribcage and make it’s light where I’ve made it heavy
Heavy like smoke and hard water
Heavy with spores and cobwebs
I cant begin to tell you the hack-job stucco surgery ive cut myself open for
just to feel like the ghosts in my house were flesh and blood
Your flesh and blood
The quick fixes in the wallpaper that add up to ransom notes on the walls of my body
It’s too quiet everyday we’re worlds apart
So I make my lights flicker and buzz
My love exists in two places
In what should
And what should not
In what I can have
And what is too far
As long as my love exists in What I can scheme for
How can u say I love you?
You make me forget about the short fuse now that you’ve moved inside me
from miles away
You fill a space purchased by bad omen
You crawl under my tongue and make home
Repaint the incisors in your language
You drive out the infestation in my jaw with your light
But the thing about most bugs is they find a way back in
Honey I’m sorry to say but they made it back in the baseboards
They’ll crawl inside the wallpaper in no time
Is it worth the sunk cost?
To slow dance the rats out of my foundation
My body is full of asbestos and should’ves
I’m sure I am a cancer to you
And yet you still say you love me
And yet you tend to my rusted faucets
And yet you paste my sun bleached shingles
The support beams rattle something sick
But you insist it’s the music that’s trapped in me
That I still got another one left in me
There’s a heart beating like a humming bird
Under the floorboards
There’s a brain with lacemaker holes in the attic
There’s a hand me down sickness
in the kitchen
In the bedrooms
In the basement
In the living room
There’s a rock stuck in the window
And a dog that’s crawled under the porch
To return to its dying
I’ve made no good place for you to live
But you’ve made yourself comfortable
In my dilapidation
“I could collapse any day” I say
“I’m stubborn to a point” you reply
“I can repair all I can but I can’t fix you forever”
And that’s what I fear
My bones being too far gone that they must go for auction
