Parts Have Arrived!!
At the top left are our 70 mm wheels, beneith that are the bearings, at the center are the riser pads (kinda like shock pads), to the right are old trucks we are going to use, and rolled up at the bottom is the grip tape. The only thing left is to make the board! We just need to wait for the maple veneer to come in (another week at most)
10/02: Finished Amateur Board Press
Well...It's finished...but it's functionality has yet to be tested. We are slightly concerned because our measurements were far from spot on, and some of the wood is hopelessly warped. Since we need to wait for the right veneer wood (1/16 maple) in order to start pressing the actual board, we were hoping to do a practice one first with maybe some cheaper veneer. That's for later.
Today we attached all of those vertical peices to the horizontal 2"x10"s with both wood glue and screws (not sure if we needed both but better safe than sorry right?) and unfortunatly the peices don't fit exactly like a puzzel but we assume it'll be good enough for our science so we'll leave it at that and go ahead with the next challenge: the locating of veneer and the gathering of heavy things (to apply pressure to the press and bend the board to it's shape)
Postponed D:
After a short investigation, it turns out that there is only one place within ten miles of us that we can get 1/16" Maple Veneer (wood needed to make the actual deck of the board) and they are out of it and won't be getting more for "2-3 weeks" or by the lady's inflection while she was explaining this...a long freakin time. Which doesn't stop us from completing the board press. In that case we will probably end up using other wood as sort of an experiment. We arn't entirely sure why maple veneer was recomended and I (K-Dizzle) at least would like to find out if there is a suitable alternative.
In other complications: Master J is still sick and Nordboards, the company we ordered the parts from, never got our money and the $100 we spent has magically re-appeared in the account (?!?!!?wtf). The universe is rejecting our attempt to complete this project
Day 4: Sick
Dank Master J was sick and I (K-Dizzle) was too buisy between classes, a piano lesson and a choir rehersal to get anything done! Wednesdays are just not good days sometimes. I will tell you though, I have begun the process of brainstorming for cool designs for the bottom of the finished longboard. I am leaning heavily toward whales. On the deck of the board, which will be mostly black griptape, there will be a cutout of a sloth (to represent Dank's contribution to this project). On the bottom where my design will be, I will make a stencil of the Space Turtle (still in the designing stage of development) and in the spirit of street art I plan to spray-paint it on. That will look awesome. It shall be the epitome of Peace Animal products!!
Day 3: The Usage of Power Tools
We began by making some cuts in the peices that come in contact with the board. We had to make curved shapes so that the pressed board will have a concave shape. Next we gave it a quick sanding (above) and started putting all the peices together (below). It got late so we decided to quit halfway through and finish it up tomorrow. Looking good so far!

Day 1 - Building A Board Press
