location: unlikely place for him to be: the library
he’d been seated at the far end of the library table long enough for his foot to fall asleep that even he was starting to lose the thread of why he was sitting there—other than the fact that someone he cared about was seated at the long central table, laughing a little too sweetly with someone edo had hoped was good company. after the first quarter-hour, boredom settled in and he let out a quiet sigh behind the book. when a familiar figure approached the table, he caught them in his peripheral and went very still, as if not moving would somehow hide him better, before finally slumping in defeat. "don't give me that look," and before they could utter a word, added, "i am just... keeping an eye on them. and i am bored out of my mind. they’ve been talking for ages and nothing suspicious has happened, which is deeply suspicious."
She looked at the books. Truthfully Mekkhala wanted to get a stroy book for her daughter. Something to not think about her current ailments. Mekkhala noticed the familiar face. Watching from the distance. There was a knowing look. "Yes because you look watching prey." She said There was a smirk. "Come on tell Madam Mekkhala all your secrets." She said with a smug look.
"yes, yes, you and your gentle musings," viviana teased in reply, though the fondness in her expression and tone were unmistakable. she admired those who saw the world in such a positive light, part of her wishing she, too, could share in their optimism. "but perhaps you are right: as long as we have good food and good friends, the world may be habitable after all." she gently led the other back to the stall, grinning at the mention of mekkhala's daughter. "how is the little darling? does she ask after her aunt viviana?"
"I would say I'm slightly rough around the edges too." She said with an airy laugh. "Both my other loves food and events. When both my families aren't begging for your struly attention." She said with mock sadness. There was a sigh. "There are some days that are better than others." She "Of course and I tell her shes coming when she can." mekkhals said with a wink. "Speaking of, we must arrange an engagement with you two."
"i am sure he will," valentino agreed uneasily, glancing behind himself to make sure that the door was nearby. he himself was doing his level best not to mess with anyone, and he could only pray that his new acquaintance did not take offense to anything he said or did. valentino very nearly flinched when he returned his gaze forward and found the other man close by, icy dread creeping through his veins even as he attempted to smile in as casual and friendly an expression as he could manage. the sinistra went on, and valentino gulped - out of fear or something else, he was not quite sure. "what - er - what sort of feelings? pleasant ones? not those of murderous rage, one would hope," he added with an unnaturally high-pitched laugh. he cleared his throat and added, "your sister - she sounds like a lovely lady. does she reside elsewhere in italy? or somewhere else in europe?"
"Indeed." He remarked with a half smirk. There was intense unreadble look, feeling him flinch, he felt for a moment he felt his heart race. "Nothing murderous." He reassured his whispere almost sultry. Deliberate his face still near. "If I wasn't a sinstra." He replied in a husky voice, he closed his eyes and took a deep breath. There was another unreadable look. "Her grave....we went through the trouble of traveling to a sacred site in china." He confessed his voice raw. "I think all the love disappeared when she passed on." He quietly leaned against the chair. "I only have room for one person and they are-" He winced in pain before finishing the sentence.
"you sound like a tutor i had not long so ago," he shuddered at the thought, rolling his eyes fondly at the other. "i do not think lack of a betrothal is fair justification for calling yourself a vexatious brute. if that is the criteria, then this city is full of them. myself among them." by his own hand. vito cleared his throat. "perhaps not diana herself, but some distant relation of one of the muses, maybe. mostly, though, i am avoiding being in there," a gesture back towards the bustling house. "what are you doing out here?"
"A tutor I can barely read." There was a snort and expasperated laugh. There was a sigh. "It is still a desire I yearn, at least to have an excuse to fight." He said almost forlorn. "That is very wise." There was a shrug. "Sometimes even I need a break from the ever rising tensions." He said with a shrug.
Raphael nodded along. She was entirely correct. It was the thought inside his mind too, but hearing someone else say the same idea all but confirmed it for him. Especially with the speed with which she had said it too.
"An apt way to describe it. Poetic, most assuredly," A thought he would not be able to articulate or form, but could certainly appreciate. "Maybe we should move them ourselves. To give them new life."
There was a semi victorious grin as she heard the other's words. It was a rare validation. It was nice.
"Thank you." She said with a glint in her eyes. Without hesitation she adjusted her hair into a ponytail and rolled up her sleeves. "Let us make haste."
khaya shivered beneath the gentle gesture, eyes closing briefly as ouyang’s fingers swept through the dark curls that framed her face. “you are mighty perceptive, lord li,” she mused, a smile on her lips. having known one another since childhood, it was no surprise he’d picked up on some habits, just as she had with him. habits that she found endearing and sweet, habits he might hide from most of the world. “my night terrors would stand no chance against you,” khaya giggled, briefly placing a hand on his arm, “you’re far too strong for them to even try.”
they’d come so far since they were children. they were the same two tots who used to giggle and chase one another, but they were grown. those fanciful dreams they had were becoming realities and ouyang was now a strong, powerful gentleman, not just a young boy who would let khaya win races simply because he didn’t have the heart to watch her lose.
her eyes flickered across his features, noticing the faint blush on his cheeks, which only made a matching blush blossom across khaya’s cheeks. “lord li, you have always been too kind to me,” a shy smile curved onto her lips, “to my whole family, truly. you are a rarity amongst men.” khaya took his hand, finding that hers fit nicely in his, “where is the best place to watch the sunrise?”
There was a small warm smile."I am only using the best of my senses, as it is my duty." He said in a small voice. The brute he showed everyone else can stay sealed within him. At least for the time being. There was a chuckle. "I suppose." There was a jokingly remarked. "I could pull out my mightest weapon and they would cower." He said with a smirk.
He was always a sensitive one. He was only hardened after the death of his sister. Maybe it was that what made him grow up faster. But sometimes, with Khaya, he would have his youthful innonence.
There was a shy grin. "Without a prescence like yours, I would be a brute." He almost confessed. Was it as close as a confession he could say. "Outside these walls, this moment. I'm no better than any man." He remarked being a bit humble. "Over the hills before the pathway." He said as he gently leading the way.

Fabrizio picked up the rapier lying in the dust and examined it carefully. Then he turned it lightly between his fingers, testing its balance and the fit of the grip within his hand. The whole process took about a minute, but it was enough for him to draw his conclusions about the weapon. Then his blue eyes rested on the stranger's face and he nodded slightly, extending his hand.
“You made quite a fight with your opponent,” Fabrizio said, with a small smile that could be taken as teasing, and crouched down to get a better look at the stranger's wound. "Do you need help? I live nearby."
His expression immediately took on a mixture of concern and thoughtfulness as he considered his next words. He touched the back of his head, covering it slightly, then tilted his head to one side, weighing what exactly to say. He didn't want to get involved in problems, but his life had recently been spinning in a vicious circle from which he couldn't easily escape. Maybe an offer like this could bring some fresh air.
"How about I help you with your training or whatever you're doing?"
A small flash of satisfaction came into his eyes, though he did not fully understand it. But why should he not take such a chance?
His strides were clumsy. Admittely he was thinking of a certain gentleman from event before. Every stride affected by his own emotions. And it gave his rival the upper hand.
Ouyang looked up at the new voice panting. There was a hesitance, almost a silence. Intially he shook his head. "Only a bad day, I'll get better next time." Ouyang lied quickly.
After a few moments, and maybe a gentle look from the older, Ouyang did relented. There was a slow nod.
"I do need help." He admitted. "I have been sloppy because of my own mind." He kneeled down on one knee respect. He held both his hands in front of him.
"I will take any guidance sir." he said with a small smile."Please lead the way."
Ouyang is willing to do anything to improve, even if it meant blind trust. Anything to be a warrior after all.

"which one do you prefer, my lady? it is clear you have an eye for fashion." chiara held up a soft yellow shawl around her shoulders for a moment, then switched it out with a light blue version. "which one should i pick?"
"The light blue my lady." She replied with a glint in her eyes. "It matches the skies and your beautiful eyes my dear." She said with a wink. "What is the occasion my lady?" Mekkhala said with an almost knowing look.
"did you ever doubt me?" viviana replied, adopting a wounded expression. "here i am, with nothing but the purest of intentions, and aspersions are cast upon me. oh, what a cruel world it is," she lamented, touching the back of one hand to her forehead. "just back there," she informed her companion, immediately dropping the theatrical act. "shall we go and see what other treasures they are offering?"
There was a slight eyebrow raise before she left out a rare snort. "My lady don't jump to such conclusions about our fair world." Mek teased. There was a glint in her eye. "Maybe I will get some more for my little one." She said happily linking arms with the other.

"pardon me, sir" her voice called softly as to not startle the other. "i seem to have gotten a bit lost," bianca explains. typical her to attend a small gathering with no idea where she was. "could you tell me-" she approaches the other, but once she's close enough she frowns. bianca identifies him as a member of the li family. as a proud carducci herself, bianca would rather be lost than ask the sinistra side for help. "nevermind, please forget i said anything."
There was a stern look before it became gentle hearing the other's words. There was a slight sigh. Despite his personal beliefs about destras and other's families, he was a knight. And he believed in helping others. "I can disregard your ties if you are in a predicament." He bowed in front of the other. "I am a man of the sword after all."
bianca stifles a laugh with the back of her free hand. she glanced in the lord's direction and was overcome with more laughter. "is that so?" her eyebrows rose. "then we must drink our weight in it!"
"Of course." There was a light chuckle as she grabbed the arm. "Come our night is very young." Mek said leading the way.
valentino perked up. "oh, a wedding? i do love weddings. such a festive atmosphere, are they not? in my eyes, there is no more worthy cause to celebrate than love." his fanciful mood was quickly dashed by the stranger's hostility, wondering what it was he had done to seem to justify it and already considering making a quick escape. he raised an eyebrow as the sinistra winced, a pang of sympathy ringing through him. "look at us - quite the pair here, are we not?" he observed. "and - well, no, i do not suppose that is the result i anticipated," he said, furrowing his brow. "i suppose i was expecting - well, hoping for - a kiss. not - not the -" he made a vague gesture in the other's direction to encompass the grandness of what he had detailed. "goddesses and whatnot."
valentino followed the sinistra's gaze out the window, then looked back to his thoughtful expression. "right," he said with a nod. "sure. a wise woman, your sister. for what it is worth, i believe it, too." he continued to eye the other warily, trying to assess the truth of the statement. "i will take you at your word on that, and remind you of it in disappointment should you renege."
There was an eyebrow raise. "Not even the triumphs of war." He remarked, showing his slightly violent nature. There was a sad smile. "Nary a weaker pair in verona." He said with slight admittance. "But that scoundrel will rue the day he messed with a li." He remarked. There was a chuckle. Not at the want but more the response. "I will admit that isn't too high of a desire, during a night like this-"There was a pause as he got up. "However you might want to change your stragegy. Dimuendo then Crescendo-silent longing, subtle sweet nothings" He looked with a wily look leaning in close.
"Then your paramour's heartbeat increases and then you steal the longing from their lips making them long for more-" He said in a husky voice just hovering near the other's lips. He eyes the other's lips and then his eyes before taking a step back. His cheeks turning pink. What was he doing.
There was a nod. "She was more a romantic than I. A learned lady too." He looked up. "I can only pray wherever she is , there is none of this nonsense." He shrugged. "I do not feel the need to renege, even as you stir feelings within me." He admitted hiding his face.
"all of that sounds like an accurate summarization, agreed. i do think it would be of prudence for any of the men here to carry you if you so wish it." there were things to think about in all scenarios, but alvaro knew and had gone over such a moment before in his mind.
it was just what was needed for the situation.
"air? air would be lovely actually. quite a good idea." one that hadn't even yet crossed his mind. a little too in his own head about other things. "may i escort you outside then my lady?"
"Prudence doesn't satiate my trials." She said with a sigh. "But I suppose most men have do have a reputation to uphold." There was a smirk. "Even a perspiring one such as yourself."
She held out her arm in response, one with a slight bruise forming.
"You may but be gentle, I have tripped once already." She said trying to make like of her injuries.
" no reason. i thought you might be busy. that's all. " jie smiled as she looked to the other. there were so many people here, she thought that the last person he'd want to spend time with was her. " of course. i don't think that they would dare to cross you . " she smiled fondly as she looked up at her brother. " i promise i will. " she nodded. though she wasn't completely sure if she would. she didn't really understand the feud. she didn't understand why the families couldn't seem to come together. " yes. lets get a drink. " she nodded.
"At the end of the day, blood trumps my duty." He said with a knowing smile. "It was what she would have wanted." He added with a slight pause. "I'm not that vicious." He teased his sister. "Good to hear." He said firmly believing her words. "After you-" He said as he gestured to the table. At least for tonight they could share a moment.
End.
"There must be some bliss you have by staying in between." Felix's voiced echoed through the sanctuary despite how softly he spoke. It was empty besides the two of them and it meant their voices carried. "I'm not here to argue with you. In fact, I was hoping to find some solace in a place like this, but I fear I will not find it here. All I know is there are some people I simply do not trust. How you can advocate for people clearly in the wrong, I don't know if I'll ever understand."
@peacekeepcrs
"There isn't any bliss. Only conflict" She said sounding more venomous by the second. There was a scowl. "You are in the house of the lord, surely you could find something." She said crossing her arms. She looked away trying to keep her anger in check. "And if they are in the wrong- surely man can redeem!" She exclaimed. There was a sigh. "Better the devil you know, then the devil you don't.Hell hath no fury than a man scorned...." She said being silent. What would happened if she did seperate. Even if it was managed who would protect her if she did. "But that's my reasoning, why are you not seeing the nuance? Surely you cant benefit in seeing in black and white?"
@felix-basso
he nodded. "strangely, though i do not know you, i am inclined to agree with her -- in a positive sense, of course." it was something to do with her energy, he surmised. admittedly, in the moment alessandro thought he might have preferred the discussion to be a business deal ; he was well equipped to deal with that. "the dangdas," repeated softly, the name familiar, at least. catching the look in her eye, he offered a warm smile. "certainly, i believe i can do that." he considered asking why, but thought better of it. "oh, no, no. i could not take something so lovely from you ; there is no payment required, mekkhala. honestly, this is hardly a big ask."
"Why thank you! A flatterer by any other name." Mekkhala said with a chuckle. She was semi aware of her charm. There was a nod. "My family before all the arrangements." She said with a nostalgic whisper. "Thank you." She said with a small smile. She looked at him perplexed. "It only seems fair, thats how we dangdas operate." She said slowly, it was all she ever known. "My other family seems to think so."
