So earlier today I was rewatching Dhurandhar and then this scene came
I was like damn those earings. It's quite hard to see the design because it's mostly covered by her hand but I thought "definitely we'll see her wear...won't we..."
and then BOOM we do, my guess was right cause I skipped to this scene
It's the same ones. yaay
It's quite a dumb observation I bet everyone must've seen it but I just wanted to post because why not / I have free will / I'm bored.
bye.
I'm dead. I just woke up and my mind is a right mess after the surgical detonation that Dhurandhar 2 has been. So here's my no bs review that I can already see would not be enough with the way I want to rant and gossip and psychoanalyse this masterpiece.
Also people I would like to say something else before we jump into the review, "this is an Indian movie for the true Indians living in the country in spirit or otherwise." If you do not feel anything for your nation, if you have no attachment to your home don't watch it, don't read my review, just don't. I will not waste my breath trying to explain why your pseudo secular sensibilities weren't satisfied. Because it won't. If you haven't suffered for or with this country and her people then you will never get why this film is so freaking heartening for the rest of us.
Also don't cry about character development here. This was always going to end this way. Despite all of our collective fascination of Rehman Dakait and Uzair Baloch, even canonically, they were always meant to get decimated and I loved them and their supposed innate dichotomy to bits but honestly, good fucking riddance. They both had it coming.
If you all had somehow forgotten let me remind you they were not only complicit but also celebrating the 26/11 attacks. Yes, Uzair was just as much responsible for it as Rehman. Following orders doesn't exclude you from responsibility of the consequence. And that fucker was grinning in that room.
Ok. Now for the actual review -
Beware here there be spoilers
The first chapter itself made me cry buckets. Jaskirat's backstory is so tragic it makes me wanna wrap him in blankets and hug him. I loved the fight sequence. Him just decimating twelve men single handed - aura plus infinity. But I was a little disappointed at the choice to put Aari Aari here as the bgscore instead of putting it at the climax scene at the end. Other than that, it was heartbreakingly perfect. Jaskirat joining his hands before his sister broke me. I was literally sobbing by the end of the court scene. It was just too painful.
I loved how they hinted at Aalam and Hamza having their little debriefings in that chai shop with that horrible salty tea and then when Aalam dies (and what a mindfuckery that was to have Hamza kill him at the end fuckkkkk) Hamza just chugging one glass down... The angst was real. Also aur kuch ho na ho, Pinda jaisa dost na ho.
The lack of Akshaye in the movie was a constant prickling in the back of my neck because I'm obsessed with him and his portrayal of Rehman even if I absolutely adored Ranveer in this.
Rehman is shown to almost haunt the narrative in a way the audience perhaps couldn't quite grasp?
That little detail of how insane the man really was in his sheer daunting that he didn't even leave Bade Sahaab (why the fuck did you refuse a fb scene Akshaye wtf man (╥﹏╥) he loves depriving his fans), as told by Aslam, was a lovely addition. The constant comparison of Hamza and Rehman that the others were drawing, especially the Sher-e-baloch bit, hit me the hardest. The entire sequence of him literally being in parallel with Rehman's entry to the BUF camps in the first movie??? I mean hello? Even some of the close up shots were done exactly the same. Hamza had, whether deliberately or unintentionally, copied Rehman's exact stance even while sitting on the takht. (Why didn't they give Rehman a baby goat wtf now I want to see that scene....·´¯`(>▂<)´¯`·.)
Also the sartorial similarities is insane. Hamza wears different colors and subtle patterns in shades almost same as black but not exactly black at the same time. A hint to his subterfuge? Looking something else but being something else? The silhouette and the cuts of his clothes, the damned vests and the buttons of his jacket are exactly the same. The silver bracelets and the gold rimmed sunglasses and the Marlboro cigarettes... Was it all intentional? To lull people into a false sense of familiarity by milking Rehman's image to the fullest or had he unconsciously started to mirror his so called mentor a little. Arghhhhh so much angsty fic potential it will kill me.
The tragedy of Uzair is simultaneously hilarious and heartbreaking. The way he completely lost the plot after Rehman's death and Hamza literally just took him for a ride throughout the film was gut wrenching but also kinda sorta funny if you look at it purely from an unemotional perspective. The idea that Rehman literally was Uzair's one anchor to sanity will kill me. The way the gang had to physically restrain him, Hamza had to push him into Rehman's throne (Bharat coded anyone? Can't sit on Ram bhaiyya's seat???) and then to stand behind him like the ultimate puppet master!!!??? Cinematic genius.
Also Ulfat bbg atp I believe they just kept you to slap people. I keep thinking if Saumya wondered whether she'll get to slap Danish next and complete the set of all the three men. Lmfao.
On a more sombre note, Rehman's funeral with that freaking song in the background took me out. Wtf was that???? My heart was literally aching. The pain and rage on Ulfat's face when she slapped Hamza, like "how couldn't you save him" or rather "how dare you live when your brother your father my husband didn't!". The way she practically ran back inside. Hamza taking the hit yet remain standing... Was it a small penance for the betrayal Jaskirat or did you not care at all??? (Either scenario is tragic af!)
SP Aslam had the best lines in the movie hands down. I was so happy seeing him blown to bits though. The little detail of killing Sanju Baba's character with the bgscore of his own song??? Chef's kiss.
HOW THE HELL DID THEY GET NAWAZ SHARIF TO PLAY HIMSELF!!!?? (ㆁωㆁ)
Major Iqbal being a good dad and having daddy issues was not on my bingo card. I mean what is it with the daddy issues in this movie??? Rehman with his own deadbeat dad, Hamza having to kill his father like figure in a way, Faizal definitely will have daddy issues after losing him like that, Rayan (was that his name i forgot) will also definitely have daddy issues with Hamza leaving them. Uzair too I believe does have a little daddy issues considering his behaviour after Rehman's death. It's just one boiling pot of doomed fathers and sons.
The level of satisfaction I got from Zahoor Mistry's theatrical end and Javed Khanani being thrown off the rooftop and Bhuttovi being killed and the entire fucking chapter of Unknown Gunmen should be studied in a psychology class. In Bengali we have an idiom, "হাডে বাতাস" or "Hāḍē bātāsh" which literally translates to Air hitting the bones, meaning I'm soothed like there is a breeze blowing against my very bones. That is exactly what I felt like seeing these fucking jihadis get their due.
Honestly I'm glad they didn't show Hamza and Yalina walk into the sunset because firstly that would have been just unrealistic and secondly, I don't think Jaskirat ever truly loved Yalina. Hamza may have loved her but Hamza is not real. Their life would not have been the flowers and castle everyone thinks had they tried living as Jaskirat and Yalina. This relationship will always be uncomfortable for me to look at despite what the popular consensus is. It was ultimately honey trapping a nineteen year old girl by a thirty year old man for a mission, maybe later Hamza had truly fallen in love yet... At the end, Hamza isn't real at all. And isn't that just sad af.
Jaskirat Singh Rangi you absolute beast of a beauty! His fight sequences and the sheer daredevilry throughout the movie was what kept me at the edge of the seat. Hosla eendhan badla indeed. I will never get over him and his innate tragedy and his beautiful fury and and his love for his country which surpasses everything else. The last scene of him seeing his family, of him losing both his families and...goddddd that fucking bgscore. Take a goddamned bow and take my fucking heart too. (Also special mention of him sprawling bare chested on Rehman's throne...ughhhh yes sir daddy...)
Also putting Rasputin by Boney M at that particular scene, Dhar sahab ek hi toh dil hain kitni baar jeetoge. That cheeky dialogue of saying "aapko kya laga Israel humein nhi bataega?" in this economy??? Puhlease take my firstborn. The guts and sheer unapologetic bluster of this man. Yami Gautamji kya maal payaa hain aapne. (Also that little scene of her...cuteeeee little murderess spy loved it!!!)
At the end I will just say, JAMEEL MAMU YOU BRILLIANT SWINE!!!! Mera baccha mera baccha karke aadha Pakistan khatam kardiya aur end mein sabse badaa saanp nikle!!! Loved loved loved it. Idc what ppl are saying about Yalina being honey trapped and letting Dawood live, I will recreate justifications in my own mind, the plot twist was too fucking good.
The blend of facts and fiction was amazing in the movie. Especially since I have followed the politics behind this for too damned long I loved seeing how Dhar joined the dots that people have long since connected in real time. And all this in a bollywood film. I seriously don't know why ppl where so surprised. There was not a lick of political propaganda here. All are actual events and have already been connected to the terror syndicate long before the movie was even conceptualized.
And don't harp about the demonetization now, you'll just look stupid. If you still hadn't joined the dots after ten years after everything that has happened next, then either you live under a rock or have been indulging in illegal businesses or are a vat of butter who felt the inconveniences of standing in queues outside ATMs was a grave disservice to societical wellbeing. None of the RBI chief's predictions of the economy collapsing had come true, we got to see the real time after effect of the hawala network being unearthed on national media and it paved the way for Pakistan's bankruptcy. And despite the governments numerous faults like I keep reiterating, this was one of the better policies that they had brought forth and for good reason. Stop fucking whining and pick up a goddamned news paper once in a while instead of rotting inside your WhatsApp university chats.
I am ORDERING all Prithviraj Fans to rewatch the Pala Pali video song from the movie kaduva. Go rewatch now! ( I promise u would want Prithviraj to choke you with his thunder thighs) go bbg, thank me later ;)

I truly think Malayalam cinema deserves more praises. Also recently I watched Aavesham and Guruvayoor Ambalandayil. And omg I couldn't help but imagine how well Ranga anna and Anandettan could bond. I feel like they have similar personalities, also FaFa and Prithviraj together on screen would be ✨️🩷

COMPARING SCENES FROM THE SAME DIRECTOR PRASHANTH NEEL WITH ROCKY X REENA IN KGF CHAPTER 2 VS DEVA X VARADHA IN SALAAR PART 1 CEASEFIRE
1. No way rocky and Varadha having the same confused but intrigued expression on their faces while Deva and Reena dragged them on their hands and set to bring them wherever they want to go as this strong headed character that their lover will follow anywhere they take them. Helppp
2. Varadha and Reena having the same wonder in their eyes as their lovers put the sacred jewelry on them and couldn't believe that this person in front of them could love them this much!
3. The way Reena and Varadha both jumping in their lovers' arms like a little kid argghhhhh the way Rocky and Deva trying to brace the impact and managed to keep themselves steady and protectively secured their clingy lovers in their strong arms immediately like??
4. Varadha and Rocky laying their heads on their respective lovers' lap help me as their loved ones pat them soothingly on their chests and run their fingers through their hairs !!
5. Possessively put your hand across your lover's body for what? Not once varadha did this in the entire movie, he just acted like Deva’s boyfriend most of the freaking time!
I see what you did there Prashanth neel, clear as a day 😭 I mean knowing his vision and how he directed certain action to show a progress in a romantic relationship in his previous movie then putting the same mindset while directing varadeva with similar shoot and point of view I think it should be an easy math to conclude what he actually meant by those scenes huh
THERE ARE MORE ON THE REBLOG BECAUSE PRASHANTH NEEL IS INSANE FOR THIS
