Some people theorize that Steven will shatter someone in the show, but I don't think that he will but not only because he's kind hearted. The show put so much time in showing what happens to a gem when it's shattered to let Steven willingly shatter a gem, even for self defence. Throwing the rubies out into space isn't like shattering them either, they're still alive albeit miserable, but at least their minds aren't broken into pieces that have to suffer everyday not knowing who and what they are

I feel like, if he would shatter someone, it would be an accident.  

I don’t want him to be ruined like that. let steven live.
