To Killing Stalking Fans: Why I Don’t Hate Ji Eun!
I wanted to share this post I wrote on another blog with the Tumblr fandom. I hope you Killing Stalker fans love it.
Something that I'm noticing that has been happening to this fandom and this Amino is the hate directed at the current female lead of the story, Ji Eun. Their are some calling her a tramp, some who hate her behavior towards Bum, and others who find her cute. I'm not gonna tell anyone how they should feel about a character however she’s just a small detail in the big picture of this horrible story. She is a plot device.
These characters who make brief appearances in the story whose purposes are to purely drive the plot, maintain the stories flow, or resolve situations within it.
These characters are amazingly used by the mangaka but also service a secondary purpose to our favorite (jerk off) Sangwoo.
Another mangaka whose work I admire is One the brilliant mind behind the uber popular web comic series, One Punch Man. In one of the chapter that revolves around the backstory of a brilliant scientist from a young age he views everyone else as a weak minded fool. In his eyes they are black formless shadows that he can't comprehend at his high intelligence level.
In a similar way I feel like this is how Sang Woo sees people too. They are all a means to an end as well as a fun outlet for Sang Woo to happily take his torture out on.
What they feel, what they say, how they say it, doesn't matter. What matters is how they play off of our two crazy and dysfunctional boys Sang Woo and Bum. Because lets not forget they are who this story is really about.
After all everything that happens in this story is the direct results of one or both of their actions. The Robber (Ch 9) and the Singer (Ch. 15-17) are two people who I'll be discussing.
"The Robber" is the glasses wearing old man who is killed in Chapter 9. After almost cutting the flesh off of Bums face Sang Woo brings home a confused and frightened man who made the mistake of trying to force himself on Sang Woo. Woo forces him and Bum to play a game that puts their lives on the line.
The scene in itself is a game. Its the 'what reactions can I get out of Bum' game. The old man is a pawn. He is used to put Bum under stress. Its sad how effective it is, "Would Sang Woo replace me for him?" and "Sang Woo wants me, why else would he help me win". From Sangwoo dictating the rules of the game to sitting in a high position observing the game he is in control the whole time. He leads Bum to a loss just so he could terrify him with the idea of dying. There is glee and amusement that Bum actually thought he would be killed. Like the idea is silly. All of this is fun and a way to share something special with him, killing.
Sang Woo makes it very clear that he doesn’t give a damn about the Robber's life or history. All he cares about is that the Robber plays the role he is supposed to play and once his usefulness is over to promptly die like he was suppose to.
It is deja vu watching that girl crush on Sang Woo. I feel sorry for her because she has no idea that she's trying to keep the attention of a poisonous viper.
Its hard to tell if he's using to maintain his image handsome college boy image but it is clear that Sang Woo doesn’t like Ji.
But her propose is realized in here unattractive interactive with Bum. Up until this point she and the group of friends are an inspector of how well Woo hides his insanity. Jin becomes another device to keeping up appearances but now has a use in his never ending delight in mentally torturing Bum.
He is fully aware of Ji Eun’s feelings and Bum’s feelings of her. Bum questioned his relationship with her (Did you sleep with her?) literally a chapter ago. But in perfect psychopath fashion he uses this knowledge in his new game.
This look has is get to be Woo's filthiest most excitement face yet. He knows what he is going to do to Bum and is throbbing with barely contained glee. Sang Woo puts Bum in a position to see something that he knows is going to destroy Bum. Due tot the chapter ending in a cliffhanger we dont know how Bum will respond to this but it will play into the Sang Woo’s game in some way.
All we do know is that Sang Woo is.. A DISGUSTING PIECE OF TOXIC WASTE GARBAGE!!!

Once I get past my blinding rage I personally don't feel either way about Ji Eun. Because this story isn't about them. Where my rage goes is to Sang Woo and my sadness to Bum.
