what can likes and comments tell us about an audience?

The way that the audience is reacting to a post can tell you a lot of different things. If you are posting for example, a political statement on your social media, the people that are liking and commenting might feel the same emotion towards that post as you. If you notice that someone that follows you ignores your post, then you can probably make the conclusion that they do not agree with what you are posting. The same reason that you allow certain people to follow your social media and comment on your post, you have the ability to control who your audience Is and how your post will effect their opinions on your pictures.

I totally agree! I think a lot of people forget that their content, when it's not successful, can just be ignored. People tend to only focus on either likes or backlash, and not necessarily just ignoring the content

When content creators post to social media, they should always keep their audience in mind and curate their content towards the interests of their target audience. In some ways, the number of likes and comments on a post is a measure of how well received the post was and whether or not it successfully reached the desired audience of users. If a post has a lot of likes, this could mean that the content is more general and written in terms that most people would be able to relate to. A post with less likes does not necessarily mean it is of lower quality, it might just be directed towards a more specific audience.

I completely agree! Content creators should keep their audience in mind when creating content if they plan to keep their following. Some creators decide to change what they create AND expect to keep their original audience, but that's not always how that works

Likes can show us how relatable a post is towards an audience. If a post has more likes, it could be relatable to a larger, more general audience. When a post has fewer likes, it does not mean it isn't successful. It could be that the post is only relatable to a smaller, more niche audience. Likes can show what an audience relates to more. When a poster creates content geared towards a specific audience, and that content is not as successful, it shows the poster what the audience does and does not look for or relate to. This can help a creator make successful content for their target audience.

Likes and comments can tell us about how far a post reaches, not necessarily how successful it is. When a post has many likes and comments, it could be because the post is more generic and a lot of people can relate to it, or because the poster has a larger following. When a post has less likes and comments, it does not mean the post is not successful. It could be because the poster has a smaller following, or the content is only relatable to a niche group. In larger society, it is important to note that likes and comments do not necessarily make the post successful or not.

Patterns in Data

Since I am looking at the Instagram page of a department at Millersville University, I expect to see more engagement with content heard towards students. I feel that posts about their peers or events would have more engagement, since the target demographic is Millersville students in the English and World Languages department

Data Collection

I have been collecting data from the Millersville University Department ENWL Instagram. I chose not to use my personal account because my account is not public, and I felt that would cause problems in the data collection. I have been looking for posts with the most engagement, and collected as much data as I could from those posts. I did find some commonalities amongst the most liked posts, which would make sense for the target demographic.

What is Content?

I feel that content can be anything, at the end of the day. It can be a blog post, a graphic, an email, or anything else that a person can create to convey information or meaning to an audience. This does not necessarily have to be a deep or poetic meaning by any means. For example, content can be a philosophical theory that someone creates to understand a great unknown, or it could be fanart that a person creates because they really like a piece of media. This content also does not necessarily have to have a vast audience. The audience can be the whole world, or just the creator themself. Basically, I feel that content can be anything, created by anyone, to convey any information to any audience.

Organization Skills!

My organization can be terrible at times, and I will always struggle to find time for school, work, assignments, AND a social life. The way I organize is not special, but I like to keep everything in a Google calendar on my phone. I put in due dates and important events, as well as specific times that everything is due (I do put the times in earlier so that I don't turn in my assignments late). I also make everything a different color depending what it is. For example, each class is a different color of the rainbow, work is gray, and my personal time is a darker blue. I also have some people who have their own color, like my best friend and my girlfriend. Time blocking and color coordination on a device that I always have with me helps me to organize my school, work, and personal life!

This ad uses multiple elements for the purpose of advertising the company's products. The text uses humor directed at the audience, as well as showing a clear direction for the audience to buy their product. It also uses the context of the classic "Pepsi vs Coca-Cola" debate that the audience of soda-drinkers can connect to. The culture of Pepsi-drinkers will then relate to this ad, while the culture of Coca-Cola-drinkers will not. This shows how an audience can have different groups, which are in turn impacted differently by the same content.

How will weekly posts help build a workable schedule?

Having weekly posts forces you into a routine that you have to follow. You need to schedule time to plan content, create it, and then post it. You also can find which times you have more engagement, and that will begin to influence the schedule you create.

What do I want to Learn About Writing from This Class?

I'm hoping to learn how to make my writing stronger in order to better describe my artwork and articulate my ideas. I also am hoping this class teaches me how to have a stringer online presence. Being a successful artist is about marketing, and a great way to help with that is by having a strong online presence.
