you can never go back but even if you could, would you want to?
Purpose and Audience in Action
This past spring, I received one of these flyers from the Pennsylvania College of Art and design. I’ve previously taken workshops and classes at their Center for Creative Exploration. The first line of text starts with an imperative statement ending with an exclamation mark, “KEEP CREATING CCE!” The next line of text offers options to keep creating, “SIGN UP FOR UPCOMING WORKSHOPS, CLASSES, AND MORE!” The next bit of text on the same line is a coupon code. The last line of text gives information, “The Center for Creative Exploration offers year-round classes for adults and students grades 1-12 at PCAD.EDU/CCE”.
PCAD CCE has audience and purpose in action. I am part of the intended audience of individuals who have previously taken classes and workshops at the CCE. The audience is further refined in the bottom text, “adults and students grades 1-12.” The purpose of the flyer is to get me to return, presumably with others who have also taken classes or workshops at the CCE. The flyer includes a coupon code as an incentive to support this purpose.

thoughts i’ve been having while in a fight
the words that i’ll never say to you will be the cause of my isolation, i am sure.
