figured i should share my brief JP dub direction analysis on a separate reblog. just side note: this is based on common and even stereotypical anime tropes and not everyday usage of the language and also i don't watch a lot of anime, my only frame of reference for a speedster that speaks JP is Sonic the Hedgehog from his own anime but ANYWAY—
when compared, the blue hedgehog feels more punk and rude, at least i feel so. he can be charming and cool, but the cockiness is always there; he refers to himself and others as "ore" and "omae" with some curse words in engrish mixed in. commonly, these pronouns are used by delinquents, tough guys, and especially younger people with attitude.
here's an example (analysis of usage of language in the comments are also interesting) :
this is unlike our boy speedster Kid Flash, who goes by "boku" and "kimi". while more common and standard, one perhaps would expect him to go with "ore/omae" for the masc and attitude instead, but he doesn't.
surprisingly, this direction frames him as someone who's youthful, approachable, and polite hahahah. not to mention the "... ne?" at the end, like saying "... right?" of many of his sentences in their banter; its like he's being playful while being well-mannered and smooth, i think LOL, at least my feeling when i hear how he says words.
Jinx goes with "atashi", which is a casual, feminine way of referring to self but it can also be framed as something cutesy, and "anta" which is more blunt and kinda rude if used in public.
basically the vibes from their interaction to me :
KF is a lighthearted, smooth-talking goodie-goodie, while Jinx is a defensive bad girl, also almost-tsundere haha.
i saw a few other clips for comparison and notice that JP Robin also uses "boku" (polite but gives him a more collected, cool vibe) but uses "omae" (confrontational), Starfire with "watakushi" (ohh thats soo formal), Raven also goes with "atashi" (casual) and "anta" (blunt), and Cyborg uses "ore" and "anta" (casual, masc and tough vibe).
they share how they refer to themselves in wording, but the delivery is what make each feel different.
