Hey all,

I know I said I dropped a muse so that I could be more active, and then proceeded to put the others on hiatus instead. Truthfully, I’ve only lost motivation rather than gained it. I think it will be less stressful for me to no longer be pushing posts out at the deadline, and better for the group to not have these characters hoarded by my minimal activity.

Thank you as always to everyone who has threaded with me during my time in FERP. I hope to come back someday with a fresh muse. Take care everyone.

Market Day | Azura and Ryoma |

Azura was excited to be back in Hoshido. Compared to Nohr, Hoshido was bright and cheerful, barely a dark cloud in the sky. Her depression and anxiety weren’t so bad when she was here. She was glad to be back. On top of all of that, her big brother, Ryoma, had asked her to go shopping. It was probably due to the fact she didn’t really have anything to wear.

She smiled at her brother, she knew the retainers were nearby to protect her but she still could feel her brother’s worrying eyes on her. She knew he was still concerned about her, and he had his own right to be as well. She wouldn’t stop him from fretting about her.

Then his question was asked, she looked out to the market place and spoke softly, “Honestly, I’d like to get a few yukatas while we’re here. I’m sure all my old ones are from when I was a child.” 

He returned her smile, privately delighted that she wanted to don Hoshidan garb again. “Of course. You’ve grown into a strong young woman. I’ve no doubt we can find something that would fit you better.”

Lately, he didn’t have time to shop for himself; the castle tailors provided his wardrobe. He strode with his usual confidence in a direction he thought might be right before it became apparent he didn’t know where he was going. He cleared his throat and waved his arm toward a row of food stands. 

“We didn’t have much time to eat before we headed out. Would you like anything here, before we go further?” He should have known what she would prefer, but for all he knew she developed different preferences while in Nohr, or was only pretending to enjoy whatever his cooks put in front of her.

[A word, since our dear chameleon hates goodbyes.

I haven’t managed to be as active as I’d like this year, and I think it will be easier to do with two muses. As I’ve had Xane the longest, I’ve exhausted most of what I could do with that character. After three years and probably a novel’s worth of posts, it wasn’t a lightly made decision, but I think this is for the best. I hope this will help me maintain activity on Ryoma and Beruka, who aren’t going anywhere for now. Thank you as always to everyone who’s helped make my RP experience fun and welcoming. Xane never expected to make so many friends.]

Dwyer was summoned to the stables for one of two reasons: either to clean it out (always asked by another) or to groom Nova, which he would always go on his own accord. Taking care of Nova was much less stressful in his eyes. Firstly, the horse wasn’t unruly— unlike a certain steed that belonged to a clumsy Cavalier. Secondly, Nova seemed to enjoy it. The Troubadour wasn’t one to really think about how an animal feels, but Nova was an exception. He practically grew up with the horse, for one.

Entering Nova’s stable with a stool, brush, and horseshoes around a wrist, he set down the stool beside his steed before place the horseshoes on the floor. He had been brushing Nova’s fur when a voice called his name. Dwyer turned with a start, eyes landing upon familiar red armor near the entrance.

“Prince Ryoma? What do you need?”

“At ease. I don’t mean to interrupt your duties, but if I may have a moment of your time?”

The stable wasn’t the easiest place to enter with such bulky armor. He settled stiffly near the entrance. There was no need to intrude too far into Dwyer’s space. However, from here he could not discretely gauge Dwyer’s health.

“It has been a while since we last spoke. I wondered if I might inquire after your progress since then.”

Knowing she wouldn’t thrive in the crowd, Ryoma chose a time when the markets weren’t too busy to take Azura shopping. They travelled simply, with their only guards in the shadows. Ryoma doubted Azura wanted to spend their day out on procession any more than he did.

Still, he couldn’t quite manage to seem casual, often sneaking concerned glances at her. It had been some time since her last visit to Hoshido. Of course he hoped she enjoyed her time with her Nohrian family, but he couldn’t imagine the dark skies and sour memories did much to lift her spirits.

Enough of that. She was here now, and he would offer her as much as he could. He faced her properly with a smile.

“This is a nice day to shop, isn’t it, Sister? What would you like to look for first?”

"Ryoma, how have you been..?" Azura smiled faintly as she tried to approach her eldest Hoshidan brother. Her nerves were on end, she was always scared to talk to her eldest brothers. She hadn't see Ryoma in a while though.

The sight of Azura’s approach almost made Ryoma beam. It was rare at times for him not to have to track her down, and he scarcely had the time these days, as much as he hated to admit it.

“As well as can be expected. More importantly, have you been well? It’s been some time since I saw you last.” He tried to furtively look her over for any signs of harm.

"Lord Ryoma!" The man certainly did have a lot of hair. He looked like he had more than Charlotte. How much time did he have to spend taking care of all that? It certainly looked well maintained. "I don't believe I ever got the chance to thank you. Working together with Nohr and setting an example for all of Hoshido...you're quite the impressive man."

Ryoma felt like he should have recognized her--he tried to be attentive to his new allies--but he had a lot on his mind, and he was drawing a blank. He smiled politely at the praise. “Thank you for your kind words. If we all band together, we can accomplish much more with peace than war.”

“You’re very flushed- are you feeling well?”

Even the strongest people get sick. The ones that can lead an entire nation to greatness, wade the pain of physical injury, become the diplomatic body of perfection can in fact be brought down by an invisible invader. No one was strong enough to fight those off alone. When Sakura was ill, there was always someone there to care for her. Of course she never though of herself as one of the strong. Never has she seen this in her entire life. Seeing someone with such strength looking like that was never a good sign.

Her big brother’s face was almost as red as his armor. 

Sakura passed him in the hall, and it was very noticeable. Like a beam of red light shining into one’s eyes. Either Ryoma was flirting with someone, or he’s ill. The earlier thought was blown quickly from Sakura’s mind. Ryoma was a very confident person, at least in his little sister’s eyes, it was unlikely to her that love was the issue here. Stopping, she turns around to address the man.

“ Big brother? You’re flushed. V-very flushed… Are you alright?“

“ Of course.” She did make tea after all.

He seemed to be enjoying that tea. Great. Sakura makes a mental note to serve it again if Ryoma is ever down from a nasty cold. Her own cup pressed to her lips, once, twice, before taking his offer up on a seat. Her face turned a light shade of pink though. The compliment was one she was used to hearing, but just recently began to believe in it.

“ Y-you’re welcome.” Her smile flattened for a second before returning. It’s as if so,ething clicked in her head. Of course Sakura blurts it out. “You shouldn’t push yourself until you get sick. We need you a-at your finest.” It came off a bit of a scolding. Sakura knew how her words sounded, quickly taking another sip of tea.

Her admonishment took him aback. Though he found no humor in it, he laughed, a dry bark. “To think you would have to tell me that. Tell me, Sister, how many breaks have you been taking lately?” He knew that with her kind heart, she was always worrying after others’ health. 

He sobered. “I have to admit you are right; Hoshido does need its king in peak condition. It’s why I’ve never let up on my training, or on my meditation.” Sleep may have been another matter, but a true warrior could go without.

“Oh, there are plenty.” Her father had never included in his descriptions of Hoshido the beauty of the country. Likely he thought it inconsequential, but Mitama thought that that was doing the country a great disservice. A shame for him.

“I especially enjoy the gardens in the castle though. They are wonderful places to spend one’s time.” The inspiration she received from those places was incredible. They were also lovely places for her to rest her head and take a nap without being disturbed.

He smiled at the memory of their walk in the gardens together. “Our gardeners do a splendid job. I take it you have gotten the chance to see more flowers in bloom since our last visit? When I lose sight of the seasons’ subtleties, that’s one of my favorite places to go.”

The thought of seasons brought to mind haiku, but he did not want to push her further regarding her block. With fondness he settled on something else they shared.

“I assume you have seen Saizo recently?” It wasn’t something he could ask most, considering his heart’s profession.

“It’s incredible!” She replied immediately, the words breathed with such awe and delight that one could practically see the sparkles in her eyes. “I’ve always wanted to see Macedon with my own eyes; books are so lovely, but they’re… lonely, too.” Then, slowly, the little princess spun around, eyes sweeping over the scenery around them. “Books could never show me how alive this country is.”

Maria paused once her spinning left her facing him once more, eyes alight. “I think,” she began, words spoken around a blinding smile, “that would be wonderful.” Though she raises a hand to her mouth, her giggles slip through her fingers breezily. “Which way first, Mister Ryouma?”

Alive. This land felt dead to him, cut off as it was from his powers, but when he saw her spinning he could see what she meant.

“Good. All education is commendable, but it’s best to experience all that you can.” He thought a little wistfully of how often Sakura had been stuck inside after Corrin’s kidnapping as Hoshido went on high alert.

They had reached the edge of the town. On first glance, it seemed plain, but safe. It did not take long for him to spy a row of shops, which he pointed out to Maria. “Is there something you would like to peruse first?”

“Oh, they are doing well!” Mitama smiled. “I continue to exchange letters with them as frequently as we both can. With the difference in time, it is not always easy, but it is so nice to hear from them again and know that they are well.”

She had worried when she had departed their company. She by no means kept them safer than they were, but that did not mean she lacked concern for their well being. “They are always excited to hear of the sights in Hoshido. Being able to explain the beauty of the world is a satisfying feeling.”

“I’m glad to hear it.”

He wondered at the effects of the time difference on her growth and relationships back home. He didn’t have enough intel to even know if there was a set ratio. It was something else to research.

“I’m sure your descriptions do Hoshido justice. It is a good exercise for your writing, too, is it not?” That was why she first left her realm, after all. Perhaps even verbal practice would help encourage it. “Are there any beautiful places in their realm that you favor?”

Mitama nodded her head, politely wiping her mouth before respond. “Everything is wondrous, my lord, thank you.” The invitation itself had been an honour enough. Such a meal was a wonderful event.

She was quiet a moment. She cleared her throat. “Things are well for you as well, my lord? I hope that the meal is to your liking.” She had no part in it, but Lord Ryoma worked hard for all of them. She hoped he could have whatever pleasures in life he deserved.

“It's delicious, thank you.” Though the fruit was included for her, he had to admit he was thoroughly enjoying it.

Not wanting to intrude on her own enjoyment of it, he remained silent while he considered her situation, the reports Saizo had given him. She was certainly safe here, and she did seem happy. When enough of the food had been cleared, he asked, “It’s been some time since you came to the palace. Have you been in contact with your caretakers?”

Seeing Red |Michalis and Ryoma|

As Lutz slowly landed on the ground, Michalis swiftly hopped off to offer Ryoma an arm for dismounting. As much as he disliked everything that had been said between them, Michalis wanted to make a point being kind for whenever (yes, when, because it was certain to happen at some point) he found out about his real identity he would give him cause to reconsider every vile thing he had said.

“Good. The Gate is a little up ahead, and I trust you should be able to find it… Unless you would like aid on your way there, as you seem to be getting worse by the minute. I hope that whatever situation you find back in your own world is one calm enough for you to recover,” he says with a genuine smile. “You seem to have much on your mind, so you must take caution. It was…” not really a pleasure, but… “It was interesting to meet you. I hope our paths cross again soon.”

Prudence required Ryoma to take the arm, though once both feet were on the ground he let go despite his wobbling. “On the contrary, I already feel my health returning.” He did not stop to consider whether or not that was true. Showing any more vulnerability to this stranger would wound his already hurt pride.

It took all his willpower not to laugh bitterly at the idea of his world being calm. That was not Michalis’s concern. He inclined his head, then remembered he was supposed to be a common knight, an equal to this man, and bowed. 

“I thank you for your aid. And I apologize my hastiness in our first encounter. Should our paths cross again, I will repay my debt to you.”

He tried to recover his bearings long enough to survey the scene and gauge any dangers. The land still did not speak to him, and his ears still rung. With a steadying hand on the hilt of Raijinto, he started off toward the gate.

Vanish’d - Ryoma & Saizo

It was difficult making sense of a new reality. Saizo felt Ryoma’s warm, gentle hand on his knee and reacted instinctively to grab it and move it. Red-faced once he realized what he’d done, he grunted.

“I trust you’ll do the same,” he said. 

He lifted Ryoma’s hand up, and put it close to his face so that his breath flowed warmly over Ryoma’s knuckles. He wanted to say something, but nothing seemed right. Instead, he did something he’d wanted to do for a long time.

Saizo kissed Ryoma’s hand, closing his eyes as he did. 

“Of course.”

Worried he overstepped, Ryoma prepared to withdraw. But Saizo did not let go of his hand, and he held his breath in anticipation, releasing it in a rush when he felt the soft press of Saizo’s mouth. Any gestures of fealty he had made were nothing like this, skin and hearts bare in the moonlight.

That meant there was nothing stopping him from returning it, favor for favor. He smiled tenderly, letting the moment linger before shifting his fingers to hold Saizo’s. He did not break eye contact as he brought Saizo’s knuckles to his lips.

Since Dwyer served Nohr, it had been some time since Ryoma last saw him, but he hadn’t forgotten how the boy looked dead on his feet. Though Ryoma could respect a solid work ethic, it seemed more that the boy forgot to eat entirely, or perhaps sleep? Regardless, he seemed like he could take direction, and Ryoma couldn’t rest until he’d checked if Dwyer had followed his advice. 

Another butler he asked directed him to the stables. Perhaps Ryoma could use the opportunity to learn about Nohr’s mounts. After taking a moment to look around, he called out softly.

“Dwyer? Are you in here?

The food spread out before them was incredible. Meals in her tiny home were always a humble affair. Such a wide array of many foods made her eyes widen and her mouth water. But she had some sense and kept herself waiting, patiently, hands folded together.

And then Lord Ryoma gave her permission and who was she to refuse a king?

She dug in, doing her best not to seem too greedy as she moved foods onto her plate. Even after coming to the castle, she seldom took little more than she thought appropriate. A chance like this would not be missed.

Ryoma smiled at Mitama’s ready acceptance of the meal until a thought occurred to him. She was so small. Was she not fed enough, normally?

That was something to check in with the castle stuff, not to bother her with while she ate. He began to eat, appreciative of the food but a little too preoccupied with his guest to take full note of it. Once he was done with the most time-sensitive dishes, he asked, “Is it to your liking?”

Vanish’d - Ryoma & Saizo

Ryoma’s calm acceptance of it all made the heavy thump of Saizo’s heart turn down to a steadier beat. Saizo forced himself to move and took his seat next to Ryoma, precisely where he’d patted the bench. His hands curled into his lap. 

“Ryoma,” Saizo said, slowly and evenly, so he didn’t stutter. He liked the word, carved into a single thing. His father the King had selected it well. 

Saizo pushed his knuckles into the dip behind his own kneecaps, trying to think of the way he could approach him without causing some kind of … problem. In the event that Ryoma was attacked, Saizo would need to be near. 

Saizo shuffled closer so that their legs touched. It made sense. 

“I’m glad,” he said gruffly, and let a long silence spill into the darkness. Talking wasn’t one of his good points. 

Ryoma didn’t think he’d ever get over hearing his name in Saizo’s careful tone. There were few who would dare address him so directly; for two decades now he’d wanted to number Saizo among them. He wouldn’t take a moment of this closeness for granted.

He planned to ask after Saizo’s time at the festival, but when Saizo’s thigh pressed against his it was all he could do to keep his breath steady. It must have been the fire magic that ran in Saizo’s veins, sure as the dragon blood in Ryoma’s own, that chased away the evening chill. It didn’t help that usually unacceptable possibilities were occurring to him.

But blood meant nothing at this festival, and Saizo was initiating this. It was fine, then, wasn’t it? He placed a hand on Saizo’s knee and cleared his throat.

“Tell me if this isn’t alright.”
