Pilfered Greens | Tobin & Saizo

âGee, thanks.â Tobin replied sarcastically as he wound the remaining severed cable around his arm. He started at his palm, carefully wrapping it in a loop along the length of his arm. As he did so, he glanced about the dirt, noting any other plants that could possibly be saved.Â
âThe beets ân carrots are probably fine,â He spoke, before setting the neatly wound cable aside, âlook, itâs not that Iâm a bad farmer. Iâm a dairy farmer. Itâs different then planting well, plants. I usually take care of goats ân cows.â He couldnât resist defending himself, even if there was little he could offer. He knelt down, using his hands to carve out a few of the healthy plants without hesitation. Dirty tasks never exactly bothered him, especially given he shoveled manure prior to being summoned.
âI mean, call me crazy, but wouldnât a normal person just ask for more? Why go through the trouble of stealinâ it?â
âPride,â Saizo said, âGreed. Both.âÂ
He shrugged. Perhaps heâd underestimated the boy, but he hadnât exactly given out the idea that he had a particular talent for mental tasks.Â
âMy family grew vegetables in the mountains. Bandits and crows were the main thieves. It was just the tithe of the harvest.â
