SHE FUCKING GLANCES DOWN!
You got a name at least? Claire
Ever wonder how big wolves are and why running from them is a really bad idea?
This had me so fucked up the first time I worked at the zoo. Because honestly they just look like big German-Huskies when they’re not wild. They look like big puppies. And then… they get close to you… And it’s suddenly kinda fucking terrifying. Like “oh this is the animal that used to scare people shitless.” “This is the animal that used to run through nightmares and poems so much.” And you suddenly fucking get it. As cool as these animals are far away, as important as the animals are in their natural environment, as much as we need them to survive… they’re still pretty fucking terrifying
I hear this all the time: “Wolves are scary. How can anyone be near a wolf? Oh my God they’re so dangerous.”
All right, fine, wild animals are dangerous, bravo. Let’s stop talking about them in terms of scariness, that the worst thing about them being captive is that they’re dangerous. Tbh, the worst thing is that they’re too smart to be kept as pets; they get restless, they get bored, they can open doors after they watch you, they will never accept you as an alpha if they don’t have legit respect for you. You’re doing them a disservice. And you are not their primary target.
Go to Canada and look at a moose in person. It is far bigger and more likely to gore you to death than a wolf is to hunt you. Go to Texas and try to get near a wild boar–they are far more likely to hurt you. I hate all these posts throwing wolves and certain dog breeds in a negative light. It just shows how uninformed people are and contributes to fear-mongering. This coming from someone who has met all the animals stated.
Wolves are cautious, fiercely intelligent, social predators who are not the terrible monsters they have been made out to be. They help any ecosystem they are naturally a part of and should be protected and preserved.
