Actually, I think Brumm's line "If so, let our chains be broken together" functions more like providing information: that smashing the lamp can indeed break chains. It seems he knows smashing the lamp is useful, but he didn't initially think Grimm was a slave, so he didn't think his smashing would have any effect on Grimm. However, if Grimm is also a slave, then smashing the lamp is useful.
