September 20th - 2:30pm Written by Penelope's Mommy Penelope's night was very rough. I dealt with it the best I could and tried to make her comfortable. I made sure she knew I was there and that I loved her very much. Every bad moment broke my heart into a million pieces. I'm supposed to make things better and I couldn't. Her morning was not much better. She was suffering. As a family we knew we needed to make a decision. I know it was the right one and that she's at peace now, but it doesn't make it any easier. She was my best friend and she will be missed terribly. There are no words to express this. "I love you Nells. You were the best girl, out of all the girls, and Mommy loves you so much. September 20th - 10:00am Last night was a very long night. Everybody was in bed and Me and Mommy were out on the couch. I bited my boo boo ear. I grabbed it and I bited it. Mommy called for help but nobody heard her. Gillian's room is too far away for her to hear Mommy, and Daddy and Paige are deep sleepers. Mommy sended Gillian a message on her phone while she held my ear up. Gillian came upstairs to help. "She attacked her ear. It's bleeding. Can you get me a napkin?" "Oh geez. She took a chunk" Mommy held the napkin to my boo boo ear. It did not bleed very much. A couple of hours later I coughed and coughed. I keeped coughing. My throats was doing a spasm and I kept swallowing and coughing. Mommy tried to help me but there was nothing she could do. She petted me and told me she was right next to me. It was like I had hiccups in my throats. Big ones. This was hours and hours. I would sleep for a bit and then the coughs would come. Mommy went into the kitchen and crushed up a pill for me. She put it in a tiny bit of peanut butter. "Here Nell. This should relax you and help you sleep. Maybe the coughs will stop then." I took a while but I did do sleeps. This morning the coughing started again. Mommy gived me more peanut butter with another pill. I am bundled up on the couch. I am going to try to do more sleeps.

September 19th - 9:30pm Today was a wonderful day. Daddy fed me the turkey while Mommy was at work and I eated most of it. I liked it very much. Our friend Mag and her two boys, Caden and Landon, went to visit Mommy at work. Mag gave Mommy a hug and the boys gave Mommy two toys for me! One is Fart Pig and the other is Balldog. I can not pick up Fart Pig, but I carried Balldog around for a little bit. Balldog came with me to Grandma's house. I got to go buh-byes to Grandma's house! I got to sit at the table with Daddy before dinner. See! I am big. When it was time to eat I sitted on Mommy's lap. Mommy says it is very hard to eat a salad and corns with me on her lap. I got down and sitted on the floor. Mommy shared her meatloaf with me. I eated most of it. There was bacon on it. I know Mommy loves me because she let me eat her bacon. Alexa fed me some potatoes. Grandma makes good mushed potatoes. We all went outside so that we could visit. Grandpa is deaf and has the TV turned up to 100. Mommy says you can not even hear yourself think. It is quieter outside. I stretched out on the grass. Grandma has soft grass in her yard. Grandma asked if I wanted more potatoes. Yes Grandma! Always! Gillian held the plate and I eated a little bit more potatoes. We started to get bug bites so we went back inside. It was hot in there and my breathing was getting heavy so we headed back home. I did not have cake because I was very full, but I did get some whipped cream from the milkshake Mommy got on the way home. I am going to nap now. I did very many things today and I got to visit with my family. I will do very good sleeps tonight. I am exhausted. It was the best day I had in a long long time.

September 19th - 8:30am I did not sleep much last night. Me and Mommy started off sleeping on the couch. Then I moved to the floor. Then I stood up and looked at something. I stared at it a long time. "What are you looking at Nell? There's nothing there.." I put my tummy on the floor but I kept my head up so I could still stare. My neck gots tired so I put that down on the floor too. Mommy went back to sleep. Mommy woke up again and I was in a different place on the floor. I was shaking and staring again. "Nell. Come get up on the couch with Mommy. Come here." I walked over to the couch, Mommy touched my shoulder, and I jumped up onto the couch. I curled up with Mommy. I was shaking very very much. Mommy held me and covered me with blankets. She rubbed my head and held my leg. "It's okay, Nell. Mommy is right here. I'm not going anywhere yet." Mommy is going to work soon. She'll have Daddy come out and do sleeps with me so I am not alone. I am going to nap now, and do big snores, and dream of the whipped cream cake at Grandma's house later.

September 18th - 9:30pm I did big sleeps with Mommy and I eated more hams with Gillian. I really do like the hams. I finished it all. No more hams for anybody else. Daddy and Gillian went to pick up Paige at college. It is Mommy’s birthday soon and we are having dinner and cake at Grandma’s house tomorrow. I usually do not go but this time I am invited too. Grandma is making meatloaf. I will eat some of that too maybe. Maybe if I look very sad I can have cake. Mommy’s favorite cake has fruits in it and whipped creams. I love the whipped creams. I took a long nap and Mommy was doing things around the house. She washed my blankets again because they get icky. Mommy was in her work room that has all of her dolls and toys. I like that room because sometimes I see toys I would like to play with. That is why there is a baby gate up. I have stolen too many toys so I’m not supposed to go in there. Uh oh! Guess what?! The gate is not up! I sneaked up on Mommy. “Hey Nell!! Did you come to visit me??!” I sat up so Mommy could give me a hug. Mommy finished up what she was doing and I was a good girl and did not steal anything. As we walked through the dining room I saw my frisbee. I remember my frisbee! I tried to pick up but I could not grab it. “Nell, you want your frisbee? Here ya’ go honey!” Mommy gived me my frisbee. I carried it over to the couch and sitted on the couch with it in my mouth. Mommy took my picture and sended it to Gillian. Gillian was happy that I was trying to play. I say, “Okay frisbee, I am done playing with you. It is sleep time now.” Me and frisbee are going to do more sleeps.

September 18th - 7:00pm Many many sleeps with Mommy. We are both bums.

September 18th - 3:30pm I spended time with Gillian while Mommy was at work. We did many many cuddles on the couch. She took my outside to do my pees and then we did naps. I waked up very very fast and I runned down the stairs. OH NO! The pees came by the front door! I was embarrassed so I went down into Daddy's dark pool room. Gillian found me in there. "It's okay Nell. I know you didn't do it on purpose. Let's go outside again." Gillian tried to give me a bison bit when we came inside. I do not want the bison bits today. Gillian tried to feed me more mashed potatoes. I did not want them either. She had made herself a sandwich. "Nell? Do you want some ham?" Oh. I never had the ham before. I eated it up. It was good. "Nell, I'm going to call Mommy at work and ask if it is okay to give you ham. Shhh. Don't tell her you already had some!" Mommy said it was fine and Gillian confessed that she gave me hams already. Gillian is not in trouble with Mommy. Mommy is home now. She will sit with me and keep me company and give Gillian some time off.

September 18th - 7:30am Me and Mommy did sleeps on the couch. Our heads were next to eachother. Sometimes I would wake up and be scared and do the crazy eyes. "I'm right here Nell." Mommy would put her hand on me so I knew she did not leave. I would go back to sleep. I did not have the choking last night. I am glad because that was scary. Mommy brought me out to do pees. It was very foggy out and the grass was wet but I walked on it anyways. Mommy gived me a bison bit when we came inside amd she filled my water bowl. I sat and watched Mommy while she made her coffee. Daddy told Mommy,"You've got somebody watching you." "Nell. I just filled your water bowl. Go get a drink silly!" Mommy walked over to my water bowl and pointed to the fresh water. I knew there was a reason I was in the kitchen! I always get a drink after doing pees. Today I forgot. What a goofy girl I am! Mommy is on the light-up typey thing doing important things. I am laying cuddled in her lap with my boo boo ear on her heart. I sleep good here.

September 17th - 2:30pm Mommy has been doing some laundry and some cleaning up. She brought me outside and we both got some fresh air. She made me mashed potatoes and they did not choke me. I liked them. They had cheese. We have some more for later too. We are being bums today. Neither one of us is dressed or looks pretty for company. There was a knock on our door. It was the mail lady. She brought our mail up to the house because we had a package that Mommy had to sign for. I came down the stairs to say hi to her. Mommy told her I was sick and asked her to excuse how Mommy looked because Mommy was taking care of me today. Mommy was sort of a dum dum and got confused signing for her package. Come on Mommy! You get packages all of the time. You can do this! The mail lady said she hopes I get better. Mommy answered her back and Mommy was crying. Poor Mommy. The mail lady made her cry. I am going to cuddle with Mommy because she needs me today.

September 17th - 11:00am Last night was hard. Gillian and Mommy stayed up with me and watched me do sleeps. I had a breathing attack two times. I snorted many many times and it was hard to get my breath. It scared me and my family. It made Gillian cry. I was on the little couch and Mommy tried to sleep kneeling next to me with her head by mine. She ended up doing sleeps on the floor once she saw I was okay. This morning I feel better. Mommy brought me outside to do pees and then into the bathroom to clean up my ear. My fur is going away on my boo boo ear. Mommy brought me out to the kitchen for water. She held my ear for me because it is so big now that it falls into my water bowl. I am having trouble drinking. Swallowing sometimes is hard. I am just going to rest. I am on Mommy's lap. She will take care of me today. It is Thursday. Thursday is Nellie day.

September 16th - 10:30pm My sister Gillian has been going up to my Uncle's house twice a day to feed my cousins, Max and Mo. She went tonight and guess what? "Nell, do you want to go for a ride in the car??" My ears heard that and forgetted that my body was sick! I jumped off of the couch and runned down the stairs! I LOVE BUH-BYES!! I thought I was not going buh-byes anymore! I rode in the car with Gillian and I waited in the car while she fed my cousins. I pretended that I was a car driver. Gillian smiled at me when she came out. I sat in my seat and I put my head by Gillian's lap. I falled asleep on the way home. I sat with Mommy on the couch and rested my boo boo ear on her while she held a bandage on it. Daddy came home and I did my rattlesnake happy tail. Mommy got up to get a snack. Oh Mommy! What is that snack you have in your hand in the crinkle crinkle wrapper? *sniff, sniff* "Nell, would you like a piece of a honeybun?" Mommy feeded me teeny tiny pieces and I eated more of it than she did! "I know it's not healthy, but it tastes good huh, Baby Bird?" Mommy is silly and calls me Baby Bird because of how she feeds me now. She also calls me Baby Bear when she gives me hugs and my cousin Alexa calls me Baby Deer because I have legs like deer! I am surprised that I even know my real name! I am going to do sleeps with my sister Gillian. I like to steal her pillow.

September 16th - 5:00pm I cuddled with Gillian all day. She was in charge of my boo boo ear bandage. I love to eats the paper, so she had a hard time doing my bandage. I stole it! She has more. I only wanted this one. When Mommy came home, Gillian could finally go take a shower. She says she did not take one before because she was worried I would jump in there again. I think Gillian needs to take another shower because something is still stinky. I smell it. I will not say anything because I do not want to hurt her feelings. She takes good care of me. Mommy fed me some chicken when she got home. She brought me into the bathroom and cleaned up my boo boo ear the best that she could. I do not like this boo boo ear anymore because it is too heavy and makes messes. I am always licking trying to clean up after it. When we sit on the couch Mommy lets me get settled the best that I can. Mommy does not care if it is messy. "It's ok Nell. We can clean up later." Mommy even lets me lay my head on her shoulder. Me and Mommy went outside to get some fresh air. I did pees and I had a tummy ache. My boo boo ear swings funny when I move my head and I try to catch it with my mouth. I do not catch it. That is probably a good thing because I am mad at it. Dumb boo boo ear. I am going to go sit next to Mommy on the couch. She is not stupid like my boo boo ear is.

September 16th - 8:00am Last night we did sleeps out in the living room. My boo boo ear was being messy so Mommy sleeped out on the couch with me. We watched TV with Gillian until very very late. Gillian fed me a midnight snack because I was awaked a little bit more than I was at dinnertime. I eated more chickens and more tortellini. I curled up on the couch with Mommy and sleeped very good. Very early this morning Mommy brought me out to do pees. When we came back in I stole her spot on the couch. Ha HA Mommy! I am going to take all the blankets, too! MINE! "You can have my spot Nell." Mommy covered me with the blankets and made sure my head was propped up right so my lump on my shoulder was not in the way. Mommy whispered to me, "You are the most beautiful girl out of all the girls. Mommy loves you. You're my best friend you know... I love you all of the times, not just this one, ALL of them." Mommy kissed my head My family loves me.

September 15th - 8:30pm Today is Mommy's late day to work so Gillian spended the day with me. Gillian fed me more chicken and more pudding. I was not allowed to hold the pudding cup this time! That is okay with me because this time I actually gots to eat the pudding. It was very good. I wish I had not wasted the other pudding. I heard Gillian go take a shower. When I was a baby I used to go take showers too. I would climb right in and my family would laugh! Now that I am big, I just put my head in there. I am going to see if I can make Gillian laugh. I climbed into the shower... Gillian laughed, "Nellie! What are you doing in here!" I stayed there until she washed her hair. Then I got out. I dried my face with a towel. My boo boo ear did not like the shower. It is mad and it is bleeding. Gillian put a bandage on it and cuddled with me on the couch until Mommy gots home. I hear Mommy coming in! Mommy sees I am happy she is home because I lift my head up from the couch. I do not feel good and I need Mommy here. Mommy kissed my head and my nose. "Her nose is very warm.. Has it been like that all day?" "Pretty much." "Has she been drinking?" "She's been like this. Sleeping. Her ear keeps bleeding. I put the bandage on it, but it keeps coming through and getting all over." "Poor Nellie. I'll take over and sit with her now." I am just very very tired. I am going to nap some more and have the good dreams. The ones where I do big runs around the house!

September 15th - 8:00am Me and Mommy have been doing sleeps out in the living room for many many nights now. It is easier for Mommy to take care of me that way. Last night I walked down the hall and I showed Mommy that I wanted to sleep in the big bed again, with her and Daddy. I sleeped between them for a little bit, with my head by the pillow, and then I curled up by Mommy's belly. I stayed in there all night. This morning I got up. Mommy brought me outside to do pees and I said good bye to Daddy. He was leaving for work. Mommy was making her coffee and she had an idea. "Hey Nell. Do you think you would like some pudding? We have pudding cups in the fridge." I do not know what 'pudding' is but I will try some! Mommy had a hard time getting it open. She gave me some on a spoon. I liked it a lot! Mommy held the pudding cup for me to eat out of. Mommy. I am big! I grabbed the pudding cup out of Mommy's hand. Here is where I noticed the problem... I could eat some of the pudding when Mommy was holding the cup. I could not eat some of the pudding when I was holding the cup. I stood there holding the pudding cup in my mouth. I did not know what to do! "Nellie! You're drooling! Drop the pudding cup so you can eat it." I would not let it go. Mommy could not grab it either. I was shaking because I did not know what to do. I have the delicious pudding, but I can not eat the delicious pudding. This is terrible! I tipped my head back, but the pudding dripped onto the couch not into my mouth. I dropped the pudding cup onto the floor. Some got onto the carpet. I picked the pudding cup up again, instead of eating the pudding that was on the carpet. Again I made a terrible mistake! The pudding cup was upside down! I grabbed it the wrong way. All of the delicious pudding was dripping onto the carpet, not into my mouth! I dropped the pudding cup back onto the floor. I did not eat the pudding on the carpet. I give up on this stupid pudding! I am going to take a nap now. That was all very stressful.
