I'm rewatching Bridgerton, and I'm noticing a few subtle details more than I did the first time. Mainly Luke Newton's acting.
I think many people were disappointed by how show!Colin was compared to book!Colin. I initially was too, but they obviously wrote Colin as younger, more innocent, and more gullible than he was in the book, and i think it works to start building Colin's future story.
Luke honestly did such a wonderful job with Colin. The true earnestness of Colin comes through, his compassion and care for others. And Luke isn't an in your face type actor, he doesn't need to overdo it to get across Colin's charming personality.
It's his subtle delivery of lines, but then its the look in his eyes and his body language. You can see the twinkle in his eye when he's flirting with Pen, or teasing a sibling. It's the laughing tone in his voice when he's teasing his mother about being drunk.
But also, later in the season when Colin is confronting Marina about her attempting to trap him into marriage, when Marina confirms that she is indeed pregnant, his body flinches like she had just slapped him. The literal pain on his face as he realized he had been manipulated and lied to.
My God, he's a fantastic actor.
I really, really can't wait for when he gets a chance to really get his teeth into some meatier material when the Colin/Pen story really starts. It's going to be fantastic.
