one of the most annoying things (jesus christ there are so many, and this will probably be the era where the rants start idk) about this whole mess is that george can literally do anything, anything, he can perform well, he can make mistakes, the comment section under merc's posts about him is guaranteed to be filled with idiotic, unprompted, unnecessary hate from lewis fans

if he outperforms lewis, people do everything to diminish that. it doesn't matter, he is lucky, it's a fluke, he didn't deserve it, lewis didn't even care, he is the number 1 anyway, whatever. his own team cannot praise him without a certain fanbase being insecure as hell, and taking it as a literal attack on their driver. praising george, showing support to george is allowed only when he performs well but not too well, like. still finishes behind lewis you know...

and when things don't work out for him, he is unlucky, god forbid he makes a mistake, once again, the comments will be full of negativity. it'll be the usual finally some shit luck for him, this will teach him, he should learn some humility and respect, he was finally put in his place etc.

and then people act surprised when george fans after 1.5 years have finally had enough, push back, and take an issue with the fact that george's own team cannot show support for him without certain people freaking out, and flooding the team's socials with hate, because they are convinced that whoever is in that other seat has only one job, which is rolling down the red carpet for their driver into every single fucking corner... and when george rightfully doesn't do that, when he dares to focus on his own race like any other driver would, when his entitled ass wants to beat his teammate, he is apparently the antichrist, he is ungrateful, he should learn to be a team player, he should be humbled and learn his place and i don't know, carry the sir on his shoulders to his 8th wdc himself ????

george is still in the early stages of his career. he has to prove himself week in week out, and while being widely regarded as one of the most promising young drivers out there and the future of merc, he doesn't have 7 titles to fall back on after a bad weekend. as safe as his place is at the team, he will want to prove himself at every. given. opportunity. so yes, every quali session will matter to him, every race where he finishes ahead of lewis will be a dub that will matter to him, and it will boost his reputation. because lewis is a proven entity, and one of the goats, so you can bet that this young gun will do his fucking best to beat him, and this should not be a controversial thing he gets slated for ffs
