Lisa watched her father pack the items into her purse, raising an eyebrow at some of the more extreme ones. She knew he was doing all of this because he cared, but did he have to be so intense about it? At the mention of her mother, Lisa looked off to the side. The brunette didnât like talking about her. She didnât like talking about the things she shouldâve been there for either. âYouâve taught me to take care of myself.â The sixteen year old replied, brown hues looking up at him. âYouâre doing pretty great as far as Iâm concerned. Please, God, no. Not this.â She threw her head back, groaning.Â
Sheâd managed to get through a good amount of her teenage years without the dreaded talk, and she was fine. Lisa had fully educated herself on, well, everything. Sure, magazines and google searches werenât the best resource, but would her dad be better? She had no desire to find out.
âIâve been going through changes since I was, like thirteen, dad.â Lisa said, looking anywhere but Frank. So. Fucking. Awkward. The girl covered her face with her hands, as if that would somehow protect her from what he was saying. âGot it. Youâre a life ruiner. Typical dad, and I love you for it.â She grumbled. âHave I learned aboutâŚ?â She questioned, peaking from behind her fingers. âYes. Iâm not explaining what I know, âcause that would be even more mortifying than it already is. I know to use protection, but donât worry.  Iâm not gonna give it up anytime soon.â Lisa couldnât believe she actually just said that to her father. âIf anyone ever tries anything, Iâll kill them before they can lift a finger. I know how to defend myself because I have the best dad ever.âÂ
Well thatâs a relief but Francis David Castiglione knew better than to trust the word of a woman before meeting a man whom she thinks she loved. Maria was just lucky that Frank had fallen head over heels for the woman. Otherwise sheâd have possibly just been another bed conquest. Though, the man hadnât thought it of that way, the women in his life in his more recent days typically were.
âI know you can defend yourself, sweetheart, but I donât enjoy being out there and having to wonder whether or not the boy youâre with is going to be some jack-ass with raging hormones or a gentleman who likes poetry. Also did you holster the forty-five under your shirt like I told you to? Donât make me check, Lisa,â he said, like any father would.
Life had moved on since that day, though Frank had moments of weakness but never in front of Lisa. Aside maybe a few times when he couldnât hold in his own sobs and growls.
âAlright, maybe Iâm worrying too much but you canât blame âNumber Oneâ dad of the year.â He said, sitting down with a soft grunt escaping the manâs lips.
âDo you... Would it make you more comfortable if you met him?â Lisa asked. She never wanted to make her dad feel that she didnât want him involved. She knew he was a little overprotective, but anyone who knew him could understand why. If he didnât like the guy she was dating, Lisa would definitely consider ending things. Her dad was the most important person in her life, the only family she had left, and meant more to her than any boy ever would. âIs it really necessary? The forty-five?â She whined.Â
Lisa couldnât imagine what her father was still going through. The truth was she was afraid to talk about her mom and little brother. She didnât like to see him sad.
Lisa sat down beside him, leaning her head on his shoulder. âYouâre not. Iâm glad you care. Thereâre some parents who just let their kids do whatever they want.â She shook her head. âYouâre the number one dad of all time. Iâm gonna ask you to do something you may not enjoy too much now...â The brunette told him, fully prepared to bring out the puppy dog eyes if she needed to.
