Not forgotten
I wish Nite were still among us. I do know, from conversations with mutual friends, that she knew she was loved by a small, loyal online community and was well aware that she would be missed by her friends. It’s taken a while for me to come to grips with my own anger and grief, but a couple of long talk over Thanksgiving weekend with a cousin (who happens to be a psychiatrist with three decades of experience now living in northern California) helped me come to grips with the latent and lingering emotional and psychic baggage.
Several of Nite’s friends are still grieving, and the hope among them that those people who were in part responsible for Nite’s suicide has not waned. Two small but important developments this week suggest that Nite’s vicious antagonists - including not only those who have gone silent but those who mocked her suicide on social media to intentionally abuse her friends - will live to regret their actions.
