Ok so this might be an unpopular opinion right now, but I loved the Odyssey movie.
Spoilers-ish for the movie
Sure there were some parts that were a bit inaccurate, like Sinon was in the Aeneid not the Odyssey, but it was still a really well written movie! I loved the visuals (though they could’ve benefited from using more color), the effects and the plot overall. The revenge on the suitors at the end was very satisfying, especially Antinous’s death.
The casting was alright in my opinion. Some actors didn’t really fit the vibe I was getting from the character but they were a well enough actor and was convincing at least in my opinion. I understand why seeing the same actors over and over again could get annoying though since I’m also planning to see Spiderman: Brand New Day that Zendaya, Tom Holland, and Jon Bernthal are also in.
This is coming from someone who’s interested in Greek mythology (maybe not at an extreme hyper fixation level) and I’ve read a translated version of the Odyssey before. I just don’t understand why this movie receives THAT much hate to the point where someone said that if “they saw this on a plane, they would still walk out”. That was only funny in the context of the live action Snow White, m’kay? But again this is just my OPINION, not to be taken as any sort of fact or truth.
In light of this being my opinion, I am the type of person who likes action, fighting, revenge, etc. I suppose this movie just checks all the boxes for me and I would probably still like this movie regardless. But I just don’t think it deserves to be hated on as much.
Side tangent: WHY DOES EVERYONE THINK THAT ELLIOT PAGE IS PLAYING ACHILLES??? Where did that even come from? That confused the hell out of me because I thought, going into the movie, that he played Achilles and was confused when they called him Sinon. Achilles wasn’t even there??!!
