it   brings   memories   of   their   first   kiss,   wanting   to   push   away,   saying   they   shouldn’t.   he   should   go   now,   gave   her   the   gift   he   had   crafted   for   her   and   then   leave,   before   it   was   too   late.   but   here   he   is,   lingering   and   she   isn’t   pushing   away   admitting   out   loud   what   he   feels   too.   “buffy.”   her   name   on   his   lips   but   a   whisper   as   they   pull   closer   and   the   alarm   bells   might   go   off   but   it   doesn’t   stop   him   from   moving   down,   closing   the   gap   between   them   and   finally   joining   their   lips   into   a   kiss, breathing   in,   his   opposite   hand   moves   to   her   shoulder   and   down   her   back,   pulling   her   closer.

His lips finally find hers and it’s like the entire world fades away in that instant. Her knees go weak and she feels grateful for the solidity of his body holding her up. The hand moves down from his face, finds the fabric of his shit and holds on to it, dragging him closer to her. Lips part slightly, giving him access to deepen the kiss. The intensity of the contact between them makes her go lightheaded, though her body is capable of responding to him of its own account, acting out of muscle memory. She breaks away to catch her breath, her forehead resting against his for a moment. “God, I’ve missed you,” she whispers in between shaky breaths, right before her lips reach out for his once again.

Sometimes he would still forget who he is, being in that hell dimension had been…Very interesting, he only remembered bits and pieces of it, but the pieces that he did remember hurt… he could remember slowly being stripped of who he was…

And Then there was Buffy, finding him; and maybe attacking her had been a result of him being half crazed; now he was sitting at the local demon bar- because he didn’t know where he fit in anymore, he had died…He should probably be dead still, it’s not like he had tried to do anything good- he had tried to end the world.

Again.

“I thought you would be busy.” The vampire said as he turned around to face the woman behind him. “I just got the ability to walk without tripping over my own weak legs…” he trailed off, “And I know Willow wants to talk to me, I just…didn’t think you would.

Things hadn’t necessarily been smooth since Angel’s return. After his thrift in the dark side and Buffy subsequently skewering him with a sword. To say things were awkward between them now would be an understatement. She didn’t quite know how they fit together anymore. What she did know was that he needed her help, and she had no intention of abandoning him.

Standing behind him at the bar, she cleared her throat as a means to call his attention. She couldn’t say she was much of a fan of their current surroundings, but she supposed it make sense for him to seek solace in such a place. “I just-- I needed some time,” she explained, stepping around him to take a seat on the stool beside him. “I was here, though, if you needed me.”

“I don’t quite see Will coming into a place like this, truly. Where you trying to avoid whatever she wanted to talk to you about?” The blonde had no idea her best friend had wanted to speak with the vampire, and now she couldn’t help but wonder what that was about. She would definitely have to interrogate her about it later.

“Right…as much as I would want that perfect happiness, it wouldn’t be wise.“ his eyes do drop to hers as he mentions the perfect happiness for a second before they lift apart, clearing his throat. oh, bad idea, angel. The vampire simply nods a couple of times, hand brushing against his scalp, nervous, as if he wasn’t an almost 300 year old vampire. “Yeah, get those books to Giles. I’ll try and find more information through my…informants.“ the fact alone he has informants.  Any chance to not go and bother Giles and remind him of what he did without a soul.

She feels the weight of his glance on her, even if it doesn’t last long. Warmth spreads over her features and she’s pretty sure she’s blushing, so she turns away in an attempt to hide it. Her entire self hums, aching to get closer. And yet, the distance between them remains uncharted by either one of them. “Yeah, he’ll be needing those.” And she needs a little bit of space to pull herself back together, given that his presence still manages to destabilize her. “I suppose I’ll see you later, then?” There is an edge to her voice then, almost as if the notion of parting from him causes her physical pain. One would think she would have gotten used to it by then.

Sam crossed her arms over her chest and glanced over at the slayer, “You’re a walking vampire field day. You can’t go back out there anytime soon. They’ll smell the injury coming right off of you, Buff, that’s just how it works.” Her friend answered gently. “Now, why don’t you tell me exactly what happened so we can actually treat you instead of playing another game of ‘let’s take a quick rest and ice it before I go patrol for another four hours’?”

There was definitely some truth to her words. But Buffy is definitely too stubborn to shield. “I’ve been out there in way worse shape,” she points out, though her tone is full of kindness. She appreciates the concern, even if she doesn’t feel it’s fully warranted. Nonetheless, she allows for her body to slump into a chair and provides the other a full view of her wound. “Just a rough tussle with a vamp. May have collided a little harder than desired with broken pieces of a grave. It’s really not nearly as bad as it seems.”

Angel wanted to turn her down, the vampire knew he should but…The time seemed to slow down between them into an agonizing crawl. He’s walking slowly towards her, tilting his head to the side. “I want to take comfort in you, and it’ll cost me my soul.” He’d told her that once before, but he never stopped meaning it.

Had he messed up? Was this a mistake? He had no idea, he didn’t know. sometimes it felt like he didn’t know anything when it came to Buffy. His hand reached up, the cold and pale skin brushing against her warm hand and he closed his eyes.

“I’m here.”

He walked towards her then, and it was her turn to stand still. Not because she hesitated, but because she wanted to give him enough time to fully make up his mind. "We’ve made it work before. We can do it again.” She knew his soul was too high of a price to pay, would never ask him to give that up for her. But she also didn’t want him to leave, not again. She wasn’t sure her heart could handle it.

His hand brushed against hers, and she moves it so she had capture it in her palm, her fingers entwining with his. She brought them up together, resting his cold one against her own cheek, leaning into the touch. “I’ve always been here,” she breathed out, emotion coloring the words, emerald hues searching his gaze.

Angel hated when she cried, his heart didn’t beat already but the sight of her crying hurt his heart, the undead heart that didn’t even beat anymore but it ached for her. “You would always choose me, because I would always choose you. But it’s not fair to the people we’re fighting for.” He said quietly, “I would do anything to be with you, but we have bigger responsibilities.” 

“You’re not choosing me now.” She realizes just how harsh the words sound after they have already parted from her lips, and there’s no taking them back then. Not that she’d want to, anyway. Rationally, she knows he’s doing the right thing. But she can’t help the way her heart seems to compress and ache more with every beat. “My life has been about nothing but responsibility since 15. I deserve to keep this one thing. I have a right to be selfish this once.”

“don’t   worry,   blonde,   no   one   does   me   like   you   do.   perfect   happiness,   blah,blah,blah.   you   know   the   drill.   that’s   reserved   to   just   you.”   and   truly,   he   would’ve   preferred   that   method   over   whatever   magical   nonsense   was   happening   now   but   the   endgame   was   the   same;   angelus   was   back.   “now,   why   don’t   you   come   here   and   gives   us   a   kiss,   lover?   it   has   been   a   long   time.”   and   the   vampire   towards   over   her,   angel’s   perfect   happiness   in   the   form   of   a   slayer.   how   pathetic   he   had   been   then.   “I’m   sure   we   can   find   other   ways   for   you   and   I   to   fight.   if   you   catch   my   drift,   hm?   I   know   you   still   think   of   me.  ”

It feels like a bucket of ice water hurled at her, she grows cold and her body tenses all over. She would recognize his voice anywhere, in it’s familiarity and in the way it sounds completely wrong. “Angelus,” the name is not a question, but an actual fact, realization weighing down upon her. “Wha-- How are you here?” Surely, this couldn’t be happening. Ever since they had learned about the catch to the curse, they had been careful. Stayed away from anything that could constitute perfect happiness. So how could this be? “I’ve killed you once, I could do it again.”

“I knew you would be,” Alec answered, looking at the girl half amusedly. “I would have been disappointed if you wouldn’t at least be interested.” He started grabbing his bow and arrows. “Just one thing. Don’t get in my way.”

Buffy reached for the katana, which had quickly become her favorite weapon since she began training in the institute. She draped the sheathe sideways over her shoulder, the weight of the blade resting comfortingly against her back. “As if I’d ever. I would say it’s you that will have to keep up with me.” Perhaps she was new to the whole shadowhunter gig, but she had been hunting for years. She was quite capable of holding her own.

        ‘  oh , great .  the bartender’s human .  ’        irony colors the tone of his voice , as the judgemental attitude prevails .  whereas he reluctantly yet willingly follows her lead , dean is far from dropping the subject of the conversation that concerns him most .             ‘   tell me somethin’ , how exactly do you define demons?   ’       there must be something he is missing here , as ‘harmful’ ought to be something that applies to all of them .

She recognizes the judgement that colors his tone. Buffy herself had once not felt all that differently. But she had learned to see shades of gray. Angel was proof that there were exceptions everywhere, so she wasn’t about to slay willy-nilly just because of their origin. “I don’t define it in any way. It’s pretty self-explanatory, isn’t it? They are just demons. Doesn’t mean they’re all out to cause harm, though.” She doesn’t expect him to understand, and isn’t searching for his approval, either. “Look, this is my town. I don’t need you to question how I fulfill my destiny.”

Faith’s cheeks flushed a little with warmth as Buffy takes in the sight of the gift. It didn’t bother her that Blondie was surprised- hell, wasn’t that the point? So long as she didn’t ask how or where the second Slayer got the items. Not that it was anything untoward, exactly, but Faith wanted to keep some secrets to herself. Worked a few odd jobs for them, no big deal.

“I’m glad to, ah-” she began, cutting off abruptly as Buffy gave her a hug. Wasn’t unwanted, exactly, but Faith wasn’t always touchy-feely with her friends. The Slayer wound her arms under the other girl’s and returned the gesture. “-glad you like ‘em. I thought, hey, what do you get the Slayer who’s got almost everything, right? I figured everyone else mighta gotten you stakes or something. Wanted to think outside the crypt- so to speak.”

It takes a moment for Faith to react, which causes the blonde to wonder if she’s overstepped some boundary. She knows the brunette isn’t always comfortable with physical touch, and she hopes she hasn’t put her off. Relief washes over her when she feels the other’s arms wrap around her torso, noticeably relaxing further into the embrace. She doesn’t linger for too long, though, not wanting to push too far.

Letting go of the other, she takes a step back, the box holding the gifts still firmly clutched in her hand. “I love them,” she corrects, offering a bright grin to support her words. “One can never have too many stakes, really. But I’m glad you went for something different. It was an excellent choice.” Faith wasn’t wrong, either. Stakes and weapons did seem to be a default when it came to gifts she got. Jewelry was actually a close second, it turned out. Not that she would ever complain about that. Accessorizing was an essential as far as she was concerned.

The ravenette stepped into the all too familiar house catching the slayer’s glance, “Hey Buff. I got your phone call, so I’m here. What’s up?” She remarked. Samantha Salvatore had been good friends with the blonde for months now as she was close with vampire with a soul [Angel] and she was one of the good guys, too, so it had worked out. Her formerly murderous ways were long gone and though she had originally come to Sunnydale and relocated due to the hurt she felt being back home after her failed wedding attempt, she didn’t want to go back to that life. “What is it? Angel, vampires, or what?”

As it turned out, Angel wasn’t the only gray area when it came to vampires. Buffy had never expected to find herself being friends with one of her foes, or even liking one that wasn’t her on/off romantic partner. But alas, here she was, allied with one of the very creatures she was meant to hunt down and relying on her for assistance.

“You know, there doesn’t always have to be a crisis for me to call,” points out the blonde, playful smile pulling at her lips. “Since you’re offering, though. There is a particularly pesky demon we could use some assistance with.” Alright, so she was guilty of actually calling her for help. But that didn’t mean it was always the case. Blonde passes off a book to other femme, opened on the page that describes the latest threat to Sunnydale.
