After reading the short story ''A Haunted House'' by Virginia Woolf I, got to thinking; How does our past affect our future? In the story, a ghost couple is looking for a treasure in their old house. And this treasure represents their joy and love. That the narrator has. As I was reading the story, I asked myself that; When do I think about my past? When does our yesterday mean something to us? Is there a specific time for it? Then I realized that I have no idea. Yet, I know that we are changing day by day without even realizing it. Every single moment of our lives becomes ''the past'' in minutes we can't freeze. Thus, we view the events that happened to understand the present. The couple in the story are the people who lived in the narrator's house years ago. They're from the past, and they are aware that the human souls' desires for happiness, contentment, and love are the lasting values of life. They remembered the contended moments they had and searched for the treasure that they made of that house. They knew that those moments they had were the most valuable. This couple accepts and embraces the presence of the ghost couple, perhaps with a hint of curiosity they await their discovery of the treasure notwithstanding their ignorance about the treasure. It is only after the ghost couple gives out a sigh of relief that they realize that it is a message of love that permeates from their endless search. The moments we share, the feelings we experience with our loved ones. The moments we have shared in the kitchen, the garden, or upstairs. The narrator will stay in the present and be aware of the treasure she has, with a little help from the past.
