ENOUGH with the prophecies. try making a schedule instead
some of you desperately need hobbies that aren't feuding
i'm beginning to think the wizards cat is significantly better at magic than he is
yeah sorry i didn't get back to you the carrier pigeons staged a coup. they've taken over the castle
What's really funny to me about the Malory timeline is the bit when Gawain tells Arthur that Gareth and Gaheris are too young to refuse his command because like, in all logic, Gaheris isn't that much younger than Gawain. Gawain is knighted at Arthur's wedding, which puts him in the 18-21 range, and Gaheris is a squire, making him at the absolute youngest like 14. By the time the fall of Camelot roles around, Gawain has multiple adult children.
Gawain: "My Lord, Gaheris and Gareth would not want to guard the execution, but are too young to be able to deny you."
Gaheris: "I'm forty-five."
My favorite bit from Macgyver (2016) is that yes, Mac is very good at improvising anything and everything at any time, but 90% of the time he’s gonna make a bomb. Is a bomb what’s needed for this moment? Maybe not, but he’s sure gonna make one.
Have to barricade enemies inside a building?
Bomb.
Trying to lose a pursuit car?
Bomb.
Minor inconvenience that could probably be fixed some other way?
Bomb.
“Hey Mac, got any ideas?”
It’s a bomb.
It’s always a bomb.
I HAVE BEEN LAUGHING AT THIS FOR LIKE 10 MINUTES STRAIGHT OH MY GODD
Except I can never NOT parse the “hieroglyphs” on the far right as reading “I dig that ass.” Which still works, TBH.
Through the magic of Tumblr - this post survives its demise.
15 minutes after Nico screams into the void upon first seeing Percy Jackson at Camp Jupiter, he goes to Reyna and slams down “50 bucks the new kid wipes everyone out at war games”
Modern day adaptation of the “all young ladies keep a journal” scene from Northanger Abbey where Tilney clocks Catherine as a Tumblrina after only ten minutes of speaking with her (there’s no other way she could’ve picked up those speech patterns) (he knows this because he’s been on Tumblr since Dashcon)
I’m now reading “Betsy Was a Junior” to my 10 year old for her bedtime story. Last night, we read the scene where Betsy gets passed over for the Essay Contest because everyone at school basically hates her stupid sorority and thinks they are all snobby, even Alice and Winona and let me just say, neither of those characters seems snobby ever in any Betsy-Tacy book, but I digress…
What struck me was when Joe (Willard of the blond pompadour) finds out Betsy didn’t get chosen to write in the Essay Contest as his opponent (again, he won the two prior years), he goes in to talk to the teacher who made the decision to try and convince them to change their minds, even though it goes against the entire Zetamathian-Philomathian school divide (and did I mention, how peaceful and silly this book is?)
Am I contemplating writing a fic of that scene of Joe confronting sweet Miss Clarke and insisting, nay, demanding they give Betsy the Essay Contest and then being told no and walking out the door where Betsy is sort of lingering, even though there are probably like three other people in the world who would read it?
Have you met me?
True romance is when you find out you're not competing against your crush I mean academic rival like the last two years, and you are just like . Unacceptable. And try to convince the teacher to let her compete
one thing i do find fun about having a new adaptation of homer very present in the public eye with a lot of very vocal critics is that it truly is a continuation of an age old tradition of getting mad at homeric reception. there were people in the 1st century complaining at vergil for Doing Homer Wrong. a critic named herennius pointed out everything he thought sucked in vergil's poetry. agrippa thought maecenas hired vergil to create a new poetic style and that style was Lame. quintus octavius avitus supposedly wrote an 8 volume series of every line he thought vergil plagiarized. i hope we get this every 2000 years from now on.
i watch baseball for the side quests
throwback to 2021 when the exact same player started doing this extended water bottle bincoculars sight gag in the dugout
this is the same guy who also made himself a fruit cocktail midgame. he is The manic pixie dream girl
baseball is actually not a sport it’s just a documentary of human nature and how we battle boredom. the stuff these teams get up to while they’re waiting their turn.
and it’s hilarious when they pull pranks on each other, like attaching things to other people’s caps:
or the beloved hot foot prank:
or when they decided to put a guy’s pants over his head and make it seem like he was walking on his hands:
or when they opposing pitchers took turns playing tic tac toe every time they got on the mound:
i take back everything bad i've ever said about baseball these boys can fucking Post
Sometimes you have to entertain yourself out in the field too, like the time Victor Robles made friends with a praying mantis.
and some college baseball shenanigans
Baseball is all about that tension between how boring shit is when you're literally standing alone in a field and trying to maintain focus and what you do in the fractions of a second after a highspeed object suddenly comes your way.
ESPN has started putting mics on players in the outfield and having conversations with them and the best content is all just shooting the shit with commentators.
Anytime I think socialism might actually work I'm reminded of the time I was like ten and my mom was having a massive yard sale and I was like "I want to do a lemonade stand!" And she was like "fine but you have to give me all of the money you make and we'll use it on the vacation we're going on this summer" and then was like "k then I won't do it"
marian gardens my beloved....
