Running journey:
I’ve been an on and off runner. I ran track and cross-country in my younger days but college, med school & residency led me to go running when I needed an outlet. It was all sporadic. But all of those runs ended with a lighter mind.
Two years ago my life was shattered. Destabilized in ways that I was not prepared for. It broke me for awhile. To turn things around, to re-establish my belief in the human resilience and strength that is within us all, I signed up for a half-marathon. Life remained crazy, I didn’t train (at all!). The day before, I considered that maybe I should skip this one, to avoid an injury. I ran/walked that half-marathon (finished in a reasonable time). There was pain, even an injury. The physical stuff has healed, what remains is mental fortitude that it took to keep going. That finish line helped restore my faith in myself.
Life since then has had it’s ups and downs. But here I am now. Signed up for 2 half-marathons in the next 10-14 weeks.
