When you RP with somebody constantly, and then all of a sudden they just fucking disappear. you just get the pleasure of them constantly posting on their personal account while ignoring your asks and acting like you donāt exist. Showed how much I actually meant, huh....
Bruce almost burst out in laughter at the thought of almost being knocked in the head. He looked down at the woman and thought of the invitation, trying to think of the last time he did eat. He always seemed to forget to eat while enticed in his studies. ā actually lunch sounds good if you have time now?ā He rubbed the back of his head. ā to be honest I really canāt remember the last time I ate. I usually just run on coffee most of the time.ā He gave her a smirk.
The surprise Bruce showed her upon her request was almost sad to see. From the little she had gotten to know of him, she had realised just how self deprecating and lacking in confidence he was. It wasn't good to see, nor feel it radiating from him. She turned her head to the side, giving him a warm smile as she nodded slowly. "Yeah... I do....". There was something terribly sweet about him, something that drew her in enough to want to get to know him properly. She could tell that not many people had offered him the same courtesy. "Unless you chew with your mouth open, in which case I'll have to take a rain check..Because that's really unattractive...." she teased him, her nose wrinkling with mirth. "Running on coffee isn't healthy you know...she says in a completely hypocritical manner..." she teased.
Bruce was sitting at his desk with his head in his hands as he thought. He has been through all his old research over and over again and came to the conclusion that non of it will help get rid of the monster. He was stuck with no where to go. He sighed as he stood up stretching. He walked over to his office door and opened it being bored of the office. He was a bit startled when he saw the woman in the other side. "Oh. Hi. Neva was it? What brings you down to this floor?ā He gave her a warm smile.
The moment that Bruce thrust open the door to his lab, was unfortunately the moment that Neva had decided to bite the bullet and knock on the door to his lab. Her arm raised and about to impact the hard wood, she froze in almost comedic fashion as it opened, her hand just level with the man's forehead. Thankfully, there was still a comfortable gap between appendages. Allowing herself a few moments of silent surprise with equal measures of faint regret, she could only stare at the man before her momentarily before bursting into laughter. She really did have a habit of picking her moments perfectly. "I'll just be removing that..." she giggled, lifting her free hand and withdrawing her hand from its frozen posture before dropping it to her side again. Regaining her posture after a moment or so of struggle, she straightened herself and gave a shuddering sigh to calm her laughter. "Well....I..l..wanted to come and...see how you were...I guess....Maybe see if you might want to go for a bite to eat sometime?"
Bruce closes the door unaware of what had transpired with her wallet. ā Next stop your labā he started heading toward the elevator. He pushed the button for her floor and stood there awkwardly waiting for the elevator to stop at their floor. As soon as they made it to her floor he escorted her to her door. ā here you are.ā He smiled. ā if you ever feel like visiting. Feel free. I know how it feels to be the outcast.ā He looked at her in the eyes and a green shimmer went across them. āHope it gets better for you.ā He turned around and started heading for his own floor.
Although it was probably a little mean of her, Neva couldn't help but be amused by the awkwardness emanating from the man beside her as they waited for the elevator. It was almost as though he wasn't used to spending so much time with somebody he had only just met, and that his lab was pretty much where he spent the most of his life. She threw him a sideways glance, a smirk on her lips before stepping through into the elevator, glad that at least he knew where in the heck they were. Following the man to her door, it was with relief that she spotted through her window that the experiment she had let sit by itself for the few minutes she hoped it would take to grab some lunch was coping well without her. She hadn't destroyed any equipment...yet. She smiled as she turned to face Bruce, her heack cocked with confusion as she noted the green glint in his eye. "Er....yeah. That'd be nice. Thank you" she nodded, watching him walk away back to the elevator. Ā "Okay....erm.....Enjoy the rest of your day....." She found herself stumbling over her own words as she called after him, lingering momentarily before punching in her entry code and retreating to her lab. "Just walk in Neva. You don't need to act like you're lost or anything... He did practically invite you to his lab..." A week or so after their initial meeting, Neva found herself pacing the floor she knew the man's lab to be stationed on, frustrated with herself as she toyed with the idea of 'checking up' on the man. Neva had kept her distance from Bruce for the remainder of the working week, having tried her best to keep getting lost to a minimum. She didn't want the man to feel as though she were crowding him, as she had immediately gotten the impression that he was a man who needed his space. She was the same in her own way, but she was often -to her detriment- one to go out of her way to please others. Unfortunately this usually meant a loss of her free time. Once or twice she found her hand hovering over the man's door to knock, but each time she pulled it back, determined to collect herself before she spoke with him. "What are you so nervous about? You're only thinking of asking the man to lunch." Okay. Maybe she needed to stop talking to herself. The looks she was beginning to recieve from passers by were beginning to give the impression that she may be coming across anything less than sane.
āWell.ā He looked down at the floor while walking. āIt could be any number of reasons why people donāt like me. Maybe because I tend to push people away most of the time. Maybe itās because I one of Tonyās best friends and probably could get away with anythingā he smirked at that mad got serious. āOr maybe it could be cause I have a monster inside of me.ā He looked straight forward stopping at they reached the cafeteria. āWho know. Or maybe because Iām a bit odd and people donāt take odd well.ā He glanced over towards Neva. āStop one. Cafeteria. ā he held open the door for her and the sent of hamburgers, todayās cafe special, seeped through the newly opened door.
Well, Neva HAD asked. So she could have expected an honest answer from the man walking beside her. But it Ā was interesting to hear just how honest he was willing to be. Suddenly she felt a little like a hired therapist, and it was all she could do not to cringe slightly. "We all have a monster inside of us. Some of us are just better at keeping them abated..." she commented in a somewhat distant voice, thought it was quite clear that she hadn't understood the man's underlying meaning. She had been out of the country for quite some time before taking a position at Stark Industries, and a lot of what had happened in the city had passed her by. But disregarding the previous comment, she couldn't help but laugh at his suggestion that he was simply an odd person. She hadn't gained that impression from him. He'd come across as slightly quiet and grumpy, if she were honest, but not odd. "Well I'm people, and I appreciate a little 'odd'. Keeps things interesting..." She shot him a genuine smile as he held the door open for the cafateria once they had reached it, the scent of freshly cooking burgers turning her stomach as she stepped into the room, scanning it to try and remember the areas she had passed through in her search for somebody to eat with. She made her way to the counter before tracing her steps back through the busy canteen, the obligatory 'excuse me' and other apologies falling from her lips as her colleagues would routinely fail to notice her and bump into her. Naturally, they failed to ignore their mistake, too. But she disregarded them as she spotted a smallm, green pouch underneath one of the tables, no doubt having been kicked there at some point. She swooped beneath the table and took hold of it, having to pay particular attention in order to avoid hitting her head as she rose to her feet. Opening the purse, her heart fell to notice that it was empty now, Ā aside from her various cards and an ID badge that had been graffiti'd with "Professor Loser" having been scratched in over her name in a deploringly childish manner. "Thanks kids...Really...Much obliged. Spend the money on alcohol. It's all I was gonna do with it, anyway..." she grumbled as she stuffed the purse haphazardly back into her pocket with her forgotten lunch before making her way back to the door where her colleague stood. "Thanks..." she smiled weakly to him for waiting.
Bruce cleared his throat. āSo your the one who took away the bar.ā He gave a short laugh. He really never did like having the bar in the building. Sometimes on the weekends some of the other scientists would enjoy the drinking way too much. āIām happy that itās gone. Way to much would go on. Or. Should I say way to little. Seemed like the people here would rather drink than work. Though I have noticed tony doesnāt show up quite as often though.ā Bruce went silent for a minute, deep in his own thoughts. "Oh. Sorry. You said you need help getting to your floor. Right." Bruce walked over to the door, holding it open for Neva. "And something about getting your purse from the cafeteriaĀ ?" He waited tell she excite the room and he shut the door locking it behind them. He started walking down the hallways noticing the sideway glares from some of the other colleges on his floor. He wasnāt very much like here also. Everyone would call him a freak for what he was. Bruce shook his head while he led the way to the cafeteria.
As much as it seemed a pretty odd placement for a drinking establishment - though considering Tony's predilection towards alcohol, it made some sense - Neva couldn't help but feel vaguely sorry to have taken away a place her colleagues seemed to appreciate. But only vaguely sorry, because her work was important. "I suppose I am. Bit odd to have a bar in a company building, but you know Tony. Not one to stick with convention..." she smirked, her brow furrowed just a little as the man before her fell into silence. There was something vaguely sad about it - about him in general - but she thought better than to mention it. She had only just met him, after all.
Waiting for the man to catch up with himself, she waited for him to open his office door before giving him a playful curtsey and walking through it. "That would be really helpful, thank you. And yeah...I thought I'd put it in my pocket but it's not there." If she ever bumped into the man again, he was bound to realise for himself just how flaky she could be. She didn't consider it entirely to her detriment, but she did manage to annoy herself a great deal with it. " They would have issued me with a cellphone so I could contact somebody from my department to come collect me, but generally I'm not trusted with technology....Not since I managed to somehow block call the entire building and jam the system...Which I'm sure you noticed...". Neva gave a small laugh, having to walk a little faster to keep up with the man's pace. He was rather more tall than herself, after all. Tony himself was very much used to her ineptitude when it came to technology, and he had rather cheekily offered her a set of dixie cups as an alternative. Needless to say she had passed on the offer. She smiled politely at him as she walked beside him, mentally taking note of familiar potted plants, names on doors and such should she end up in the same predicament. Which was more than a little likely.
As she walked with him, she couldn't help but note the unfavourable glances thrown in their direction. But for once, she didn't feel as though they were aimed at her. She frowned lightly, glaring at the next person to look at him with disdain before turning to the man, trying to figure out what could possibly have offended them so. "Pardon me for being curious....But why do they look at you like that? Like they hate you? You seem like a decent person to me..."
Bruce look at the woman standing in front of him with a raised eyebrow. He usually keeps to himself but he is pretty sure he has met almost every employee already thanks to tony.
Bruce trying to remember if he had met her previously shook his head trying to keep on track. Something which was hard for him to so at the moment due to lack of sleep.
"Uhā¦. Oh hi. I do believe I havenāt had the pleasure of meeting you yet." He held his hand out for her. " Iām Bruce banner. One of Tonyās friends. And you may be?"
Whatever reaction she had expected from the man, a hand held aloft in greeting wasn't exactly high on her list of possibilities. But Neva was grateful for it, considering the possibility that he could have snapped at her and refused to help her. She studied the hand held out in front of her with a little uncertainty, a little unsure about shaking his hand in return. Something she had been reluctant to share with her new colleagues was the fact that she was a mutant. Ordinarily, she had a strong hold on her abilities, and could close off the part of herself that would feel exactly what her company was feeling. However, in some instances of unexpected bodily contact, those thoughts and feelings would find other ways of reaching her. Thankfully, it wasn't something she could pass back to the person. Her experiences were hardly for the weak stomached, after all. Cautiously, despite her better judgement, she internally cringed as she took the man's hand, internally coaching herself through the contact to try and block any feelings emanating from him until she let go, her heart hammering in her chest as she pulled her hand away.Ā
In the back of her mind, she hoped that she hadn't pulled him from vital work. He didn't seem too upset to leave his office, so maybe she had rescued him from some ritualistic tedium that seemed to make up around 98% of all scientific endeavors. "I'm in lab 18 on the 42nd floor. I'm told that it was up until a few weeks ago it was a bar, if that helps....Maybe that's why some of my colleagues don't like me all that much" she wrinkled her nose at the thought, although chose not to take anything personal from it. She wasn't exactly an easy pill to swallow at times, especially when she was in a good mood and had a few hours into her shift to heighten her caffeine intake. When under the influence of caffeine, she tended to gain a disorder her friends had affectionately dubbed "hyperactive squirrel", and they would tend to give her a wide berth.Ā
"Oh...oh, erm. Neveilla. Neveilla Pavlou-Mudie. Neva. I run the new Botany department. One of Tony's friend, too... " Maybe it would be better to leave out the part where, for a time, they had been more than friends. It didn't exactly make it sound as though she'd gained her job for her own merits, despite how hard she had worked for it. There was little recognition on her face as the man introduced himself, the name lost on her as she gave him a warm but nervous smile.
Bruce was sitting at his desk just like any other day. Looking through piles of old research hoping that he might of missed something to help his new research. At this point though he was about to give up on a way to cure himself of this monster. The monster was part of him now anyway. Loosing him might of make him feel empty.
He put a book down and took off his glasses pinching the bridge of his nose. He sighed and heard a knock on his door. He slipped his glasses back on his face and while standing up he said ācome in.ā
Neva had to admit that she was caught a little off guard by the swift invitation to enter the room, having at best expected some brusque and rude comment thrown at her through a closed door. It was no less than what she had become used to over her short time at Stark Industries. Tony had promised her that things would get easier given time, but her social ineptness pretty much made that a redundant piece of advice. However, despite her slight alarm, she wasn't one to be asked twice. Against her better judgement she nudged the handle on the door before slipping quietly inside, trying her best to keep any sort of sheepishness from her features as her eyes darted around the room. She didn't recognise the person standing in quiet frustration beside his desk, clearly having been working on something that had driven him to distraction.
"Hi...erm....sorry to bother you.....But I'm new and very flaky; something I'm sure you'll get to know for yourself eventually. Anyway, I went to get a late lunch and I've gotten myself completely lost and now I can't find my lab and I think I left my purse in the cafeteria...and I'm clearly having a bad day and......Help. Please. I have a pack of gummy bears with your name on them".
Two weeks as a member of an organisation she would have never associated herself with under normal circumstances - not considering their history in the arms industry, something she had considered with a dim view - and Neva had as of yet not had the nerve to introduce herself to the people on her floor. Well, the four other people working on her floor could hardly be considered a massive oversight considering their small number, but it would have still been polite of her. It wasn't the nature in which she had found herself at the company, because as of yet she was the only one aside from Tony Stark himself who actually knew her main affiliation, but the sheer fact that she had never been good with people. She tended to come across as awkward and slightly odd, and that was before she had managed to bring herself to actually speak. She had spent the two weeks while in office inside of her 'greenhouse', a facility she had designed and helped create to very specific specifications, rather than interact. But at the moment her stomach had decided that she would just have to take the plunge.
Having made her slightly nervous way to the somewhat empty staff cafeteria, she collected her food before approaching a table of people who looked as though they were of a lesser rank. "HI....I'm new here...Sorry to bother you. But can I sit with you?" she asked after waiting for a gap in their conversation. It was almost laughable that as soon as she had spoken up, they quickly began to talk in much louder voices, clearly considering her invisible. She furrowed her brow, shaking her head with vague amusement. "Hmm...Should I use my powers for good or evil?" she asked herself as she casually stuffed her food into the large pockets of her lab coat. She would just have to eat in her office as she had planned. Turning around again, she dumped her tray before skipping off out of the cafeteria, using a staircase she couldn't quite remember using before that she was sure would lead back to her floor.
Ten minutes of hopeless wandering in, and Neva had to concede that she had gotten herself lost. Not for the first time, and she was convinced that it wouldn't be for the last. Heaving an irritated sigh, she adjusted her glasses and swept a stray strand of ebony hair behind her ear before knocking on the door that sat in front of her. Hopefully with a demure smile - and the offering of her fruit cup - they would oblige and help her find her way back to her lab.
I really wish people cared about me as much as I cared about them...
Bruce walked into their shared bedroom and glanced at neva giving her a weak smile. He sat next to her and pulled her into his arms. Something he has not done in a long time. He kissed the top of her head and sighed closing his eyes. "I'm sorry i haven't really seen much of you in so long. I wish we had more time to visit other than after classes." He pulled her a little tighter and absently put his hand over her stomach. "How are you feeling?"
Despite how much she wished to repay Bruce's naive smile with one of her own, Neva couldn't quite complete the feat as she forced herself to look away from him. She knew one look at him would cause her to crack, and she couldn't afford to be swayed by the man's childish hope that things would be okay. They were far from okay. She bowed her head as he moved towards her before sitting beside her, allowing herself to be pulled into his arms as she stared ahead of her. When he set his hand on her stomach, however, she couldn't help herself as she moved his hand away, shifting out of his arms and a little away from him. Her hands wound themselves into nervous knots, the slight tremor highlighting just how nervous she was feeling at the moment.
"We need to talk. Properly. I have my medical in two hours and we need to make a decision either way." she told him in a blunt, distant voice. She didn't need to specify what she was alluding to. It was obvious. They needed to decide either way what they were going to do about the baby. She knew waiting until after her exam would only make the decision impossible for her. She would know things about it, then. It would cease being an idea; nothing but a potential being. It would turn into a heart beat, a size on a growth chart, a pulsating image on a screen.
Fed up and bored.
Bruce sat as his desk and quietly assessed the days that had passed by. When he found out that Neva had become pregnant his whole like was turned upside down. Bruce could only now wonder what their future would hold. Could he keep both the child and Neva safe. Bruce sighed as Neva walked in, and turn around and leave as soon as she saw the student working in his office. He would of gotten up and ran after her but he could not leave his student alone. Ā This was one of his trouble makers, who couldnāt be trusted to be left alone for more that 2 seconds.
He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose and relaxed back into his seat, only to wonder what Neva wanted to talk about. Ever since school started back up they rarely had anytime to talk to each other. As soon as they got a spare moment together something would always come up. He knew they would eventually need to sit down and talk. He looked up and smiled at his student who now stood at the head of his desk.
"Sirā¦ Iām finished." The student said handing Bruce the essay he assigned. Ā "I hope next time, you will learn to do this in class, instead of goofing around all hourā¦." Bruce said scanning the piece of paper over. The student only nodded and ran out of the room. Bruce sighed and stood up to stretch. He could always grade the paper in the morning. Right now he wanted to find out what Neva needed. He packed up his belongings and locked everything up.
Bruce took the 15 minute walk to the room he and Neva shared. āNeva, you here?ā He called out upon entering the room.
: Expecting The Worst
It was only a matter of time before Bruce was able to leave his classroom and join her in their shared room. Only a matter of time before the conversation she had been internally dreading would have to happen. And she wasn't even remotely ready for it. How exactly could she broach the subject of the baby; and the fact that she had given equal thought to aborting the baby as she had what they would do if they were to proceed with the pregnancy. Before meeting Bruce and falling in love with him, she couldn't have ever imagined herself thinking of killing her own child. But things were simpler then. She had imagined that she would still be in her dead end, dull teaching position with a dead end, dull partner and their children would be normal. Their family would be beige and uninteresting, and she would no doubt be miserable with the man she had settled for. But the fact was she had chosen a man who would never be able to make her any happier than he had done in merely accepting her. But the man she had chosen brought with him so many curiosities that they could never have that beige life. They could never exist in safety, knowing that absolutely nothing was lurking behind them to use them for their own ends. And the thought that the man's curiosities could be passed to the child she carried only made it a harder pill to swallow.Ā
Running her hand delicately over the front of her shirt as she sat on the end of their shared bed, she slowly looked down to where she had planted one of the small throw pillows underneath to mimic a bump. It had seemed like a good idea at the time, the image of the bump hopefully being a trigger to make up her mind one way or another. But the only feeling it had exaccerbated was her guilt for not knowing if she even wanted the baby. It only served to make her feel like a terrible person; a person definitely not worth the love Bruce had bestowed on her since they officially became a couple. "I....I'm in our bedroom..." she quietly called as she heard Bruce exclaim from their front room. The students were granted nought but a basic bedroom, but Professors had been granted the luxury of their own apartments within the building. At least it was a little privacy in a building full of hormonal children and teenagers.
Bruce was hesitant at first about leaving Neva alone again when he just got her back. He rubbed the back of his neck, he was still in some pain. He wished he could just pull her up over his shoulder and bring her to safety. He knew deep down though that someone had to go get Xavier and someone had to stay behind and hold the incoming doom that was set before them.
He kissed the top of Nevaās head and whispered in her ear. āBe safe.ā With that he took off running towards Xavierās study.
He raced down the hallway and stopped right at Xiaver study. He took in a deep breath to steady his breathing and didnāt even bother knocking and bursting in the door.
"Xiaver! Weāre under attack!" Bruce yelled.
Once upon a time, Neva would have been instantly petrified at the sudden sight of Magneto before her, threatening her and all she knew. But she had come a long way since she had moved to Westchester County, having left the mouse she had been well behind. She had had no choice but to harden the moment she had realised that she had it in her to take another's life; the moment she realised that others around her had it in them to take her own. She flexed her fingers, the hair on the back of her neck bristling as she locked eyes with the man before her. Her sister had slunk back into the background of the scene now that she had realised she had been bested, hidden behind the man whose ego was personified in his very being.
"Good girl, Adalia. You can leave this to me now." He spoke in a somewhat bored sounding tone, his eyes fixed on his prize. He already had plans for the woman and her powers. It was just a shame that she had managed to break away from them and warn the school before they could comb the area and collect those students who would be most useful to him. Neva refused to budge away from the door, however, her arms raised as though begging the man to launch an attack. "You want a fight? Oh, I'll give you one. You're not touching my kids!" she snarled, thrusting her arms forward and sending a shockwave of force in the man's direction, knocking him clean off of his feet.
Xavier had been privvy to the commotion going on in the staff room and adjoining building, but he had been biding his time. Waiting like a coiled Snake for th enemy to show too many of the cards they held. He had already sent the Professors he had been in meeting with to the rooms where the students were obliviously sitting down to dinner with clear instruction to hide them in lower floors. Having been sitting by his study window, he turns in his chair as Bruce bursts into the room, wheeling himself around his desk. "Dr Grey and Remy are taking the students to safety as we speak. I think we better get to your friend's side before she gets herself into even more trouble!" he explained quickly as he moved past the Doctor, letting him follow on at a pace he chose. He had quickly struck up a mental connection with Neva as soon as she arrived back in the building, and the rage he felt coming from her had made him extremely nervous. He had known colleagues to suffer such anger right before doing something so heinously stupid that their deaths had been the only result.
Bruce had turned back into himself just before he his the ground with a thud. He heard a crunch next to him and sat up. He had to double take when he saw his Neva standing with a pipe in her hand and starting at the imposter Neva. Bruce thought for a split second. Waitā¦ This couldnāt be..? He rememberedĀ Neva mentioning a sister once, but she also said she didnāt know where she ended up. He looked over at the imposter. This had to be her sister, no doubt about it.
He looked down and took note that most of his wounds healed up already. If he needed he could always call upon his counter part once again, but for now his mental state need a few moments to rest. He watched the two sisters stare each other down. He held his head with that now had a dull throb in the back of it. Itās almost true what they say about twinsā¦ There is always a good one and a bad one. He thought while standing up slowly.
Neva continued to glare at her sister as she walked over to Bruce, never once facing away from her as she head learned quickly what the woman was capable of. She had similar powers to herself, but she had tainted them. Had made them into something evil and unbridled. She had found her immediately more unsettling than the other, established evil mutants she had come across whilst feigning work for Magneto. Offering a hand to Bruce, she slipped it underneath the man's arm before pulling him to his feet. She didn't risk looking at him though for fear of Adalia choosing that moment to strike again; instead she turned her back to Bruce and formed a shield around him as the woman before her made to step forward. Neva was too quick for her however, as her free hand flexed and the woman was pinned in position mid-step. "Come any closer and I swear to God I will rip you in half.". It wasn't something anybody who knew Neva would expect to fall from her mouth, but the woman had attacked her lover and her home, and she wasn't about to let her off lightly.Ā
Even the sight of Magneto coming into view behind her sister did little to quell her rage. She had enough dealings with him now to know what to expect. "Bruce....Go and get Professor Xavier. He's in his study....." she instructed him, although she knew well enough that he would hesitate. She knew him too well to expect anything else from him. "Now!" she hissed, her eyes filled with anger as she turned around for a moment to look at the man, urging him to do as requested rather than act on his own personal loyalties.
Bruce held onto her hand and looked down at Grace. āWe are a familyā¦ We need to keep each other safeā¦ We will do what we can.ā He stood up with Grace still in his arms and closed the gap between them and Neva, pulling them both into a hug. āI am so happy to be back hereā¦. I missed you bothā¦ā He kissed both of there foreheads. He gave Grace back to Neva.Ā
"Iām going to take a showerā¦" He smiled. "As soon as I am out, we should probably talk about what are game plan is." He then walked up stairs to the bedroom to take a long, hot shower to calm his mind.
Well at least Bruce seemed to be seeing sense now. Running away hardly seemed like the best option in terms of their own happiness, but there was no denying that it was something they were both used to for different reasons. It was just hard to know that they were forcing Grace into the lifestyle when she deserved nothing but the best of everything. They were both teachers, so her education wouldn't be lacking when she was older. But constantly moving made it difficult to make friends, and she would never enjoy the usual things children had. She couldn't have her own treehouse, friends she could go visit after school, favourite places to go when she was older and rebelling against her parents. But they could make up for all that. She hoped. She rose to her feet as Bruce did the same, the action telling her that he had movement lurking in his mind already. "You better have missed us.." she teased him weakly as she hugged him before pulling away, taking their daughter into her arms as he handed her over. "But you just got out of the sh-" she began to argue, although she silenced herself with a smile and shake of her head. She could understand why he would feel the need to wash away the events of the past year.Ā
Bruce sat as his desk and quietly assessed the days that had passed by. When he found out that Neva had become pregnant his whole like was turned upside down. Bruce could only now wonder what their future would hold. Could he keep both the child and Neva safe. Bruce sighed as Neva walked in, and turn around and leave as soon as she saw the student working in his office. He would of gotten up and ran after her but he could not leave his student alone. Ā This was one of his trouble makers, who couldnāt be trusted to be left alone for more that 2 seconds.
He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose and relaxed back into his seat, only to wonder what Neva wanted to talk about. Ever since school started back up they rarely had anytime to talk to each other. As soon as they got a spare moment together something would always come up. He knew they would eventually need to sit down and talk. He looked up and smiled at his student who now stood at the head of his desk.
"Sirā¦ Iām finished." The student said handing Bruce the essay he assigned. Ā "I hope next time, you will learn to do this in class, instead of goofing around all hourā¦." Bruce said scanning the piece of paper over. The student only nodded and ran out of the room. Bruce sighed and stood up to stretch. He could always grade the paper in the morning. Right now he wanted to find out what Neva needed. He packed up his belongings and locked everything up.
Bruce took the 15 minute walk to the room he and Neva shared. āNeva, you here?ā He called out upon entering the room.
It was only a matter of time before Bruce was able to leave his classroom and join her in their shared room. Only a matter of time before the conversation she had been internally dreading would have to happen. And she wasn't even remotely ready for it. How exactly could she broach the subject of the baby; and the fact that she had given equal thought to aborting the baby as she had what they would do if they were to proceed with the pregnancy. Before meeting Bruce and falling in love with him, she couldn't have ever imagined herself thinking of killing her own child. But things were simpler then. She had imagined that she would still be in her dead end, dull teaching position with a dead end, dull partner and their children would be normal. Their family would be beige and uninteresting, and she would no doubt be miserable with the man she had settled for. But the fact was she had chosen a man who would never be able to make her any happier than he had done in merely accepting her. But the man she had chosen brought with him so many curiosities that they could never have that beige life. They could never exist in safety, knowing that absolutely nothing was lurking behind them to use them for their own ends. And the thought that the man's curiosities could be passed to the child she carried only made it a harder pill to swallow.Ā
Running her hand delicately over the front of her shirt as she sat on the end of their shared bed, she slowly looked down to where she had planted one of the small throw pillows underneath to mimic a bump. It had seemed like a good idea at the time, the image of the bump hopefully being a trigger to make up her mind one way or another. But the only feeling it had exaccerbated was her guilt for not knowing if she even wanted the baby. It only served to make her feel like a terrible person; a person definitely not worth the love Bruce had bestowed on her since they officially became a couple. "I....I'm in our bedroom..." she quietly called as she heard Bruce exclaim from their front room. The students were granted nought but a basic bedroom, but Professors had been granted the luxury of their own apartments within the building. At least it was a little privacy in a building full of hormonal children and teenagers.
