five’s brows furrowed slightly, arms crossed over his chest, as his gaze shot towards the other. “yes, my memories are intact,” five shrugged. he’d heard stories here and there, mostly through eavesdropping, that there were quite a few people who lost their memories, or at least, were missing bits and pieces. “but then again, if i was missing anything, i wouldn’t know,” he added, his brain basically going a mile a minute at this point. sometimes, he really hated how smart he was, because that meant he thought of anything and everything. every possible outcome, he tried to form as best as he could. and if something fucked up along the way, he’d find a way around it eventually. “but yeah. all the memories seems to check out for me.” he paused shortly. “you don’t?” he asked, though he probably didn’t have to. it was somewhat obvious, but now was the time to ask questions, he supposed. at the end of the day, he didn’t care who he bothered, or who he annoyed; he was trying to figure out what was happening here and that was that. even if she definitely didn’t seem like the worst company. “trust me, i’ve lived through too many end of the worlds to be scared of a stupid lagoon.” even if there was no saying what was actually there, waiting for them. “lucky for you, my shift just ended.” technically, it actually just began, but he’d talk his way out of it, he was sure.
a little part of jinx always deflated when someone told her they still had their memories intact . hers were gone - she had bits and pieces , flashes of images that vaguely resembled a place or a face but other than that , she had nothing to go on . no one had recognised her in this town yet , and she’d stopped hoping for it after a week or so . her patience didn’t stretch very far , and neither did her hope . she shook her head as she pulled on her black leather jacket , “no , i don’t remember anything from before here . i wasn’t even sure there was a before until someone else without memories talked about it .” jinx pulled her backpack over one shoulder and sighed . “i get bits and pieces sometimes ,” she continued as they headed out of the library , “but every time they come through , they’re like flashbacks . usually end up with a blinding migraine . if i didn’t know any better , i would’ve assumed there’s a solid brick wall in my brain and every time it crumbles , the rubble bashes against my skull .” jinx glanced over at the guy walking beside her , honestly just checking he was still there . she never thought anyone would join her on her crazy expeditions , but she had to admit to herself that it was nice to have a bit of company from someone who didn’t label her as a psychopath . “what’s your story , then ?” she asked , her eyes narrowing ever so slightly at the other , “somehow the end of the world doesn’t seem like it would be worse than this fresh hell .” she pretty much word-vomited almost everything about herself , but the only thing she knows about five is his name and the fact he can remember the place he calls home .
