Fury rippled through her frame, bright baby blues narrowing at her ex-lover. "See, that's the problem with you, Sythe." She spat. "It may just seem like a lousy job and shitty school to you, but it's our lives!" It was their comfort. Their safe place, which he was ripping from their grasp. Twisting, she shoots daggers at his bodyguard who'd backed away. "You can stay here while we get him and gather our things." If it was up to her, she'd leave Sythe waiting outside as well, but it was a necessary evil that he join; especially since he was uprooting everything.

"Don't overwhelm him." Instantly, her glare is back on the man who'd once been her world. The sight of him was one that left her aching, but Daphne ignored the discomfort, opting to focus on the current tragedy at hand instead. "Come on… You can introduce yourself while I pack our things." Spinning away without another word, she entered the trailer, leaving the door ajar.

Her stubbornness was one of the many reasons why he had once fallen in love with her but now it was an obstacle. “ See, that’s the problem with you, Daphne. It may seem like you have a choice but you do not.” They wouldn’t be alive enough to continue living if his nemesis found them. A nod was enough for his guards to understand they had to wait, he followed her without a word. He was silent when he followed her, for she decided to be cooperative for once and he did not intend on spoiling that with empty words.

All his life he had been stoic, unshaken by the cruelty of others, undisturbed by the cruelty of his own family. Yet, all it took was a gaze that looked much like his own to stare at him, wondering, curious and Sythe froze for a moment. There was some sort of protectiveness in the child, for probably he had heard the yelling of his mother. “ I am not here to hurt you.” His voice seemed weak to his ears as he approached the child, his son. “ I am.. I am your father.” And yet, it did not seem like his son was moved by that. “ I am here to take you and your mother, we were finally given a chance to be together.”

For once, he has a point, and instantly the blonde silences herself. Bright, emerald freckled hues bore into him, tearing him to shreds. "Fuck you." Her words are a whisper, sparkling diamonds glistening in the corners of her eyes. "Of course, he knows who you are." She spits the words as if they were painful, burning her throat on the way out. "I've never lied to him." What good would that have done? "I told him as much as I could." He was young. "He knows that it was dangerous for us to be together and that's why we aren't."

Yanking herself free from the man, she falls to her feet with a gentle thug, his grip still tight on her shoulders. "Tell your henchmen here to let me go!" Daphne demands, before taking a moment to consider his words. "Fine… We agree to go with you for our safety, then what?! What about my job? His school? Are we expected to just leave it all behind?"

At least she did not hide his identity from their son, he wondered if it was a good or a bad thing. Did she paint him like a Devil? The man who had ruined her future and perhaps her life? If she did, he would understand even though it was unfair. She was the one who did not want him and maybe he was a bad boyfriend once but it did not mean he would be a bad father. His eyes focused on his bodyguards and he nodded as they let her go. “ She would cooperate.” He said to them, ignoring her for a moment to gather his thoughts.

“ Is losing a lousy job and a shitty school your worst concern?” he shook his head as he took another step towards the house. “ Either you leave it behind or you prepare to take the responsibility for killing us all. You can find another job, another school. Start over. Come with me so we can get our son and leave.” It was something he wanted to do for years, meet the child he had loved from afar. He was proud of him even though he never knew him. It was true he had caused Daphne pain but she denied him the only thing he truly wanted – to be a father.

Of course, Finnick desired to get in good with Mr. Lodge. He'd marveled at his aptitudes for quite some time, but his current admission wasn't out of a sense of gain. No. He'd gathered such insight by luck but felt the betrayal was personal. "Johnson, his right hand, has loose lips, sir." Matter of fact, the imbecile was boasting about their pathetic plan as if it was set in stone. As if they'd already won. "I overheard him sharing their volitions with another associate." Annoyance riddled his voice. "I won't lie, it took the strength of Samson to stop me from calling them out." But Finnick was well versed in Hiram's ways, he'd play the long game.

His eyes were trained on Finnick as he listened to the explanation, wondering how truthful it was. Finnick has not given him a reason to be doubted but it being not very certain was a part of being a Lodge. “Interesting. These loose lips can work to our advantage.”  Hiram said with a smirk and then nodded. “ You shouldn’t. You should listen more, Fin. Especially to those with loose lips.” Hiram took out a cigar from the pocket of his jacket and lit it. “ If his lips are indeed loose, I would need you to get closer to him. Imagine the secrets he would share with an ally.”

“You arrogant, cold bastard.” Her voice dripped with venom, the weight of years’ worth of anger harbored in every syllable. “You think this is a game? You think just because you show up now, with that dead look in your eyes and your puppets at your back, you get to decide who stays and who goes? You don’t get that privilege. Not anymore.” She spits, arms crossed in a feeble attempt at solace and control.

"Wait, what? No!" Panic instantly fills her voice, bright, wild hues darting toward the massive figure currently attaching himself to her. "Touch him and I'll fucking kill you, Sythe!" But her threats were almost laughable as the beast of a man lifted her from the ground like a doll, tossing her over his shoulder. "Fuck you! Put me down! Don't touch him!" Her screams were frantic, sporadic, and obviously falling on deaf ears.

It was not a game, at least not anymore. When he started all of it, the blood on his hands was just a part of the level – it did not stain his consciousness but all has changed – he had an heir, an heir who was now marked for Sythe’s sins. The anger and pain of a mother were always justified but he wished she could wait for them to leave before she unleashed her hall on him. Sythe swallowed, it was all he could do without being cynical.

One step and he was closer to her, his loyal friend holding her. “ Stop screaming, you are going to scare him.” His voice was sharp but quiet. “ Just tell me does he know I am his father?” Did she say he was a hero who died or a villain who was rooting behind bars? Both were true. “ We are leaving. You have a choice now, Daphne.. make it traumatic for him or as easy as possible. You either assist me or you don’t. We are leaving in both cases.”

Finnick knew better than to disrupt Hiram when he was in the middle of conducting business, but when he felt unease, there was usually a damn good reason for it. "Wouldn't have cut things off otherwise." He assured his boss as he led him to a sleek, black SUV. Once inside, he waited for the car to pull into traffic before plunging into his explanation. "Word is Faltone plans on taking your input and running." Pausing, he peered over with a taut jaw. "He had zero intention of sticking to the deal." Finnick had overhead his lackey spilling details in the bathroom like a gossiping housewife. "He's against you, sir."

Hiram Lodge believed himself to be patient – he had been patient with many people especially his wife and his dear mija. He had given them the benefit of the doubt even though he always ended up regretting it. Pity. He waited for Finnick’s explanation as they were inside the car. “ Where that word come from, Finnick?” he raised one of his eyebrows, waiting for the other to justify himself. He couldn’t have his enemies trusting the people around him enough to share their plans with. “ What proof do you have of it?”

“Oh, please, spare me the noble martyr act, Sythe.” Her voice was sharp, cutting through the stale air between them. Daphne despised the mix of emotions that raged within her at the sight of him, opting to focus on her anger instead of indulging in the flutter that tickled the pit of her stomach. “You ‘had to make the decision’? You always make decisions: decisions no one asked for, decisions that suit you, and then you parade them around like some selfless sacrifice.” She scoffed, her eyes rolling with exasperation born from years of these same exhausting conversations.

She took a step closer, fury carved into every word. “No choice? You never give anyone a choice, Sythe. Not me. Not him. And now, here you are, still deluding yourself into thinking you’re doing the right thing.”

A resentful laugh escaped her. “The only thing you ever had to protect us from was you. We aren't going anywhere."

The anger in her words was familiar and so was the bite but the lack of logic was not. She was blaming him for past mistakes he had no control over and he was ready to swallow every accusation that left her lips as if it was as sweet as her lips. At that moment all he could do was to listen carefully, eyes empty of emotion as usual. It seemed as if she did not understand the gravity of the situation. She could paint him as the villain in her story but in that moment, he was not one. He moved closer to mirror her, only inches parting their faces.

“ You are right about only one thing. There will be sacrifice. You and our son.” He said calmly as he looked at one of his security guards that always came with him. “ You leave me no choice.” He whispered to Daphne and then looked at the man. “ Take her and I will take the boy.” A son he had never had the right to meet but they had no time for formal introductions.

The boy was intelligent enough not to interrupt him, he appeared to love both his life and the lives of those close to him, so Hiram decided the urgency was not some sort of misunderstanding. “ Very well.” Voice calm and controlled, Hiram slowly pushed himself from his chair and followed him. “ I really do believe you have a good explanation.” He encouraged him, for if he didn’t – Hiram had to make sure once again Finnick understood his place.

The love of his life standing before him, spitting venom in his face but there was less of the usual banter between them, less of the usual thrill that came with it. There was simply disgust and he could feel it. Her anger was not foreign to him, he had felt it – his cheeks remembering the sting that felt as if it was well deserved. It was an unfortunate meeting, one he did not want to be a part of but they left him with no choice.

His eyes scanned their place once again, his heir – his son, leaving as if he was a peasant and he was meant to be a king. He sent money, and always asked her if she wanted more. He never wished for his heir to live the life he did. A sigh escaped his lips, cold blue eyes piercing hers – no malice, no anger. “ Do you prefer to abandon the safety of our son?” too many words that meant to bite in her voice,  he used to believe it was out of desperation. “ I am not here to give you a choice, Daphne. There is no choice. I had to make the decision for you and for our son.”

"You mistake candor for charm." Lux challenges. "But if the whole village sings of your victories, who am I to differ?" She accepted his coat with a sly smile, wrapping it around herself as the water dripped from the bottom of her dress, pooling around her feet. "As for the creatures, I did not need negotiation. A little understanding goes a long way… and perhaps a touch of persuasion. I’d be happy to tell you, though I'm sure my tale will sound far less heroic next to your songs of glory." She stepped closer, her eyes glinting with amusement. "But I do wonder… do you always extend your coat to those you've bested? Or should I consider myself special?"

A laugh coming straight out of his heart is full and rich of amusement, and there is no offense taken at her words even though the little voice inside told him the lady was an expert at sarcasm and her words were laced with it. “ I believe it would be foolish to differ, my lady. You cannot call a whole village delusional without a proper reason.” And her doubting his strength was not a proper reason.

“ Oh, please. Please enlighten me. I have grown to believe creatures do not have the ability to reason but perhaps you have met more of them?” Highly unlikely but the tone of her voice was melodic and he desired to hear more of it. He shook his head. “ Only to those who truly needed. What kind of a hero I would be if I am selective?”
