In the context of inclusive classrooms, normal kids are a marginalized group
A short article in the newspaper spoke of a conflict between some local school’s children’s parents, and several parents of disabled kids in that school. The article was about the insertion of the disabled kids into the classroom as part of an “inclusive classroom” doctrine in that school, and the main points were the benefits for the disabled kids and the worry of the other parents regarding the quality of education for other kids.
I have decided, prior to having an opinion, to google up the topic a little bit. Having typed some words into google I found article after article about how good inclusive classrooms are for disabled kids... and nothing on the other perspective.
duck duck go was a lot better: the same search phrases fished out some articles in newspapers and forum posts about the worry that the parents of the normative kids have.
###############################################################
That being said, this is what i I found:
- many many articles about the benefits to the disabled kids. Many scientific studies and newspaper articles discussing whether disabled kids benefit, and what special consideration should be taken in their integration, and in what cases is there an advantage to the disabled child in being integrated and in what other cases is it a bad thing for that kid.
- Many articles and discussions about the effort and labor educators face in the tasks surrounding inclusive classrooms, about the help needed from the system in bringing in special needs kids into classrooms et cetera.
- Scarcely any discussion about the impact that these action have on the quality of education and socialization that the non special needs kids in an inclusive classroom receive. Very little is said about whether they is gain or sacrifice anything, outside of presenting the special needs kid having friends in the classroom as some special benefit to the classroom as a whole.
And then it struck me. In this context, These “normal” kids are a silenced group. They have no advocacy behind them. No science devoted to their needs. No systemic effort to ascertain whether there is harm to them, and then make sure it is minimized.
In this context they have no interests and are not cared for by the system, who is only attentive to the limit of their tolerance to the extent that it needs that attentiveness to ascertain what is the “least restrictive environment” which is the disabled child’s right.
The educators are committed to helping other people at their expense, the journalists are committed to sounding other people at their expense: The entire issue is framed exclusively in the light of the benefit to special needs children, and the normal kids are brush aside.
################################################################
But i think,
Even if they are not special needs children, they are still children, dependent on us adults; And we as adults have a duty to them also, not just to the needy.
If their education and future is sacrificed by us adults to the benefit of others, we ought to at least strive to understand what exactly and how much of it is sacrificed; And then have a real discussion about whether it is worth it.
When people thought the earth was flat, they were wrong. When people thought the earth was spherical, they were wrong. But if you think that thinking the earth is spherical is just as wrong as thinking the earth is flat, then your view is wronger than both of them put together.

A personal art reflection of 2015
I can’t for some reason post that ”best of tumblr” thing, but I think that’s public for everyone, so f you are for some reason curious, go check it out.
Long rant ahead

I’ve come to learn two lessons, when it comes to art: Your two most important assets are your enthusiasm and your creativity. Technical skill, while important, is not the core of why your work is good, or bad - nor it is the definer of the artist from the artisan.
There is an element to art which is skill-invariant. That is, that great works can be produced by people having little to no technical skill. The proof for me is that while I lack skill there are people who enjoy my pieces and want to see more of them.
Reaching the highest level of skill, at least for me, is an exercise in futility. But on the other hand, I know that I can give some j-ne-se-qua to at least some of my pieces - and from what I see on the internet those highly skilled technicians I measure myself against fail time and again to do that.
I’ve learned this past year that I am moving away from art. But I’ve learned something else in the process of learning this: I learned that I enjoy my pieces, and that others enjoy them too; And it is all because I did not forget the primal joy that children have, when they work.

I’ve been hearing a lot of people talk carbon footprint lately - from “green” activists through industrialists, inventors and start-up workers.
Not a single word though, about electric cars.
This baffles the mind. Switching to Electric transportation is the no1 chance developed countries have to save energy - far outperforming every other option including “green energy production” - it has an even greater impact on pollution prevention.
The numbers are almost unbelievable. I believe the no1 goal for making the world greener is for private and public transportation (and if possible, work vehicles too) to switch to electric.
Unfortunately that land belongs to Palestie and the rogue state that shall not be mentioned shouldn't exist in the first place ..
Be that as it may, here are what the Arabs in the middle east has managed to create, where Israel is not:
Lebanon: A perpetual civil war, arrested by the flimsy understanding that continuation is mutual destruction. Constantly used and abused by its near and far neighbors. Had to invite 2 neighboring countries to invade to prevent nation from becoming a complete massacre.
Syria: Used to be Orwellian dictatorship; Now take your pick between a chaotic bloodbath and a desolate wasteland.
Egypt: Military dictatorship. Overturned in the hopes of becoming something better where bread doesn’t cost a month’s salary, only to be hijacked by religious fanatics intending to make it a fanatic, religious state. Military intervenes, now again military dictatorship.
Jordan: Poor, desolate country. Upside: peaceful. Downside: piss-poor. Probably the best pick among the Arab middle eastern countries.
Palestinian authority: Kleptocracy. Gaza Strip: Warmongering state. Caused itself to become open air prison.

How does Flibanserin work?
The short answer: It does not.
Here be a drug, with very minor effects overall. Effects on sexual desire bordering on insignificant. Effect on sexual enjoyment notable, but too small to be relevant. Requiring long treatment with high probability of side effects.
Do yourself a favor, and don’t take this drug. You can get 90% of the results, with 0% of the risk, by taking placebo instead.

Also, time magazine, here is a reading lesson for you:
“could begin working within 4 weeks” is a miss-representation of the truth. The actual answer is: you should not expect results until you’ve taken the drug at least 4 weeks. See the difference?
“said to have a...”... LOL. Shown to have very small effect overall.
Seriously, Alexandra Sifferlin, Heather Jones, who writes these junk infographics for you? And why do you not fact check them?
Jennifer Lawrence addresses gender pay inequality and Hollywood sexism in pointed new essay
Another case of miss-reporting by major media. This time, Christopher Rosen misses the point by almost half a mile.
Is Jennifer Lawrence talking about sexism in her article? Is she talking about Gender pay gap? she is not. Reading her assay, I must conclude that her answer is a resounding no.
Jennifer writes about her own experiences and about her personal pay in a market characterized by a complete lack of wage standards, when compared to a small and unrepresentative number of colleges.
What does she conclude? She concludes that she is paid less not because she lacks a dick, but rather, because she lacked a set of balls when it came time to negotiate.
And you, Christopher, what gives you the right to misinform me? To allege that miss Lawrence wrote a single word about being mistreated for being a woman? In writing all them big, feminist words and putting them in her mouth, you are hijacking her words and her thoughts - no doubt to further your own agenda.
You sin against truth and fact; And I do not accept that you should do so.
This Graphic Shows All the Ways Mars Will Try to Kill Us If We Ever Get There
Mars is the solar system’s it planet, what with breakthrough reports of Martian water and a blockbuster movie about a Red Planet castaway soon to hit theaters. But Mars is hard—really, really hard. And while sending humans there is not just a grand dream but an achievable one, we shouldn’t kid ourselves about just how deadly a place it could be. Here are a few of the things that make living on—and merely getting to—Mars so risky.

I cannot comment with respect to the first point in this graphic. With respect to points 5,6,7 I say this:
It is obvious that the writer lacks basic knowledge about how these points work out, how much we as humans are able to control for them and what is already known. The person who wrote the graphics is more than ignorant and the points are simply put out of touch with reality.
Point 5: for a germ to be capable of infecting or even influencing humans, co-evolution with the human or related species must occur over the course of millions of years. The germ must produce materials that affect Animalia kingdom in the very least.
This does not happen by chance. It requires millions of years of coexistence and co-evolution. Which is why humans are not affected by viruses and bacteria that infects plants and why rotting vegetables are icky while rotten meat is dangerous. Why we can safely ingest “agrobacterium tumefaciens“ (probably the most important germ in genetic engineering today) or “Rhizobium leguminosarum“ (a germ greatly responsible for our survival as a species”.
To even suggest the existence of bacteria deadly to humans in an environment where not just humans, but the entire evolution tree of humans, is ascent, is ludicrous (ofcourse if this happens to be the case we as humans should probably re-examine our entire idea of how we came to pass).
Point 6: Controlling humidity is hard? naa: It is trivial. It is so trivial that most major buildings today have a button for setting it. Your house has HVAC? you have a humidity control on demand.
Too much oxygen? comon get real. If we go to such length to make atmosphere, don’t you think we’d know how to mix gasses?
Point 7: People can and do live under conditions of close proximity in prolonged periods. It is known. It is a fact. To have presented it otherwise, is just a crime against knowledge.
Jeffrey Kluge, Heather Jones, I implore you: Educate yourselves. We cannot afford journalists who are unaware of basic facts, and try to write on them from a point of ignorance.

Disney Presents Mid-Life
I really enjoyed this entire comic.
that was way more real than i expected it to be, wow
For such an utterly bizarre concept, this entire thing was remarkably well-written and thought provoking. I was really weirded out with the first few panels but kinda got hooked into the story to the end.
Wow
whatever yes reblog a good read.
This joins a long list of paintings in which i have a character just standing aimlessly doing nothing. Of course this is a little more developed.
The positive: The introspective look on his face; The work on the hands, finally close to their supposed to be size.
The negative: Anatomy of him. The shirt, despite massive efforts, is also quite goofy.
For next time: Light sources, light sources, light sources.

Sexism Debates and Tumblr
Lately I am seeing a lot of posts that are outright Sexist and Racists and bigoted on my dashboard. It seems that there is a whole bunch of people on tumblr who think that people should be treated worse if they are of the wrong skin color or gender, and they all nod to each other and promote this world view that skin color is a valid reason to discriminate between people, and that people of the wrong skin color should understand and welcome a role in society of “speaking only when they are asked, and getting the coffee”.
One man once said: “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character”. I want to act true to the character of these words, and speak out against the bigots.
My role here, as a tumblrite, is to provide quality content. That is, my thoughts on things, and my creations. To begin arguing with bigots will contaminate my blog with content that is inflammatory and stupid. Will inject into the content the words of people whom I consider racist, sexist and quite honestly actors against mankind as a whole.
And so I ask you, my readers: Do you want to read a crusade against ignorant malice? Or should I stay true to the job of making art content and seeding sporadic, well thought ideas through it?
