this year i will draw pictures
I knit this commissioned sweater vest last summer -- it was my first time taking a knitting commission, which was very scary, but also very fun. It's knit in By Laxtons' Sheepsoft DK, using the same pattern I used for my friend's sweater vest.
[ID: A V-necked sweater vest, with a dark blue background and white designs. There is a repeating bird motif around the hem, a dog lying down on the front, and someone riding a horse whilst holding a bird of prey on the back. end ID]
This is Ethel.
She's a ryeland ewe, and when I took the photo I drew this from she was heavily pregnant (and not happy about it!). Ryeland sheep are one of the oldest british sheep breeds, dating from around the 1300s, named for the rye pastures they originally grazed on.
I drew this in oak gall ink, a new favourite material of mine, and something I plan on making myself at some point. It is a greyish colour at first, and oxidises to a deep (slightly blueish) black after a few minutes. The colour can change and develop over a few days though, so some patience is required.
(She is also for sale, if anyones interested)
[ID in alt text]
some "house socks" (too thick for most shoes) i knit a while ago. the pattern is "ingrid" by novita and the yarn is "woodland" DK from @mothyandthesquid
[ID: 2 photos of cabled socks, knit in a variegated green/brown/purple yarn, reminiscent of brambly hedgerows. the main cables are periodic woven diamonds, with a narrow wavy cable on either side. the first photo shows them worn on grass, the second is a close up of the cable pattern. end ID]
some ink drawings and some pigeons 🕊️✒️
[ID: a black ink drawing of fur and wool patterns, a blue ink beetle (and partial sheep), an orange sleepy cat, a pencil sketch of two nesting pigeons. end ID]
A sea of red tigers 🐅❤️
[ID: Multiple prints of a red tiger, on various backgrounds. The tigers are in 2 sizes, but otherwise identical, and are seemingly randomly oriented. end ID]
[ID: 4 photos of a green v-neck sweater vest, with designs from 1760 in light beige yarn. The first two photos show the front and back of the vest. There is a design with birds and flowers circling the bottom. The front has a lying down dog, facing left but with its head turned back to the right. The back has a man on a horse, holding a bird in his hand. The v-neck and armholes are 1x1 ribbed, and the hem is ribbed in a “baby cable” pattern. The third photo shows a close up of the colourwork from the inside. The birds along the bottom are stranded, whereas the larger designs on the front and back use ladderback jacquard. The fourth photo shows a closeup of the design along the bottom. Two birds face eachother, with a pole inbetween them and candlesticks to the side of them. End ID]
A sweater vest for my friend, using designs from a 1760 german pattern book that i meticulously copied into stitchfiddle and then arranged onto a pattern.
I'm really proud of this, I knit the same vest pattern (but with different, simpler colourwork) almost exactly 2 years ago, and seeing my progress since then is really cool!
because a few people have asked, i'm in the process of trying to put together a pattern for this!
i want there to be multiple size options (instead of just one) but it's taking me longer than i expected. turns out maths is hard. i won't be able to test all the designs (because i am one person, for whom this isnt a job, and i do not want that many identical different sized garments) but i still want them to be there. my plan is to make it pay what you want, to reflect the fact that it is probably not going to be the worlds most refined pattern (but also i have put quite a bit of time into it at this point, so some money would be nice).
i'll also include the other patterns from the source book that i didn't include in the design.
i haven't really done much art in the past few months... or realistically the past year. i really want to submit something to a local gallery's open exhibition this year, but if i want that to happen i need to actually make some art to submit -_-
anyway, i drew a sumatran tiger. it was a fairly quick sketch, which is good because when i went to export it i realised it was only 72dpi - i got a new laptop and haven't used csp since apparently, so haven't changed the default canvas. i'm also missing all my brushes so will have to go download a bunch of those too.
[ID: a digital drawing of a sumatran tiger. it is a sketch, with areas that are scribbled or where earlier drawing stages are shown. it is loosely coloured with a watercolour-style brush. end ID]

my "neigh" jumper (pattern by boyland knitworks), knit in rowan moordale yarn.
[ID: a deep pinkish-red jumper, with light grey horses rearing up around the body, light grey crosses on the sleeves, and dark purple ribbing on the neck, hem, and cuffs. end ID]
my next knitting projects will be focused on using up the yarn i already have, because my yarn drawer is full and im also spinning more...
i painted a bench for my window :)
[ID1: an ikea wooden bench with a storage space beneath, painted in a pale green. there are four pigeons painted along the side of the storage space in dark green, with pale and mid green details. the bench is lying on its side.
ID2: the painted bench in front of a window, in a room with pale blue walls. the storage space is filled with knitting supplies, and there are three plants on top.
ID3: the bottom of the bench, handpainted with the paint colour details: "little greene, jewel beetle 303/ mylands, primrose hill 201". end ID]
new patches in my etsy shop! → perpetualspinach.etsy.com
[ID: 4 photos of handprinted patches, in three designs: elephant teeth, pigeons, sturgeons and beaked whale skulls. the fabric for the patches varies, it is either pale blue-grey, pink, or grey, and some patches are printed in red ink, some in black ink. thr background is red and white striped fabric. end ID]
a garfield jumper i knit for my friend! overall i'm very happy with it, although the sleeves are a bit long (which is a recurring problem, but easy to fix).
[ID1: a light purple knitted jumper, with garfield's face on the front.
ID2: a close-up of garfield's face. most of the colourwork is intarsia, although some details are emrboidered on. end ID]
My etsy shop is open again!
[ID: four photos of handmade linoprint bookmarks in two designs: sturgeon and grays beaked whale skulls. they are printed in black ink, and have text from hamlet on the back. one photo shows one of the bookmarks in an old book. end ID]
I added these bookmarks, and plan on adding more patches too. I also have cards, linoprints, stickers, and space dog patches 🚀🐶
chart for "lesbianism is a blessing". rewrote it from my very messy original notes, i hope it makes sense.
[ID: A chart for the letters L, E, S, B, I, A, N, M, and G, all 16 stitches high, on square paper. written notes read: Lesbianism is a blessing. Double knit, 20 stitches by 183 rows (question mark) - cast on 40 stitches. 1 row between letters, 7 rows between words. 10 rows at start and end, 1 stitch either side of letters". end ID]
("cast on 40 sts" because it is double knit, so there are two stitches for each apparent stitch, one on each side.)
i finished my culture vulture jumper!! the arms are a bit long but i figure i can easily shorten them in the future if i want to. made with a combination of 100% wool and acrylic scrap yarn. it is very comfy and warm!
[ID1: The front of the jumper, featuring a vulture wearing glasses, reading a book. the background is orange hills against a blue sky.
ID2: The back of the jumper, with a cow skull and ribcage . the background is orange hills against a blue sky, with three black birds flying between the hills.
ID3: The orange sleeves, with a simple white hare and green komodo dragon. end ID]
gloves for me, and gloves for my mum.
[ID1: two pale hands held out, wearing ribbed fingerless gloves knit in speckled blue and yellow yarn.
ID2: two (different) pale hands held out, wearing forest green fingerless gloves. end ID]
both knit with scrap/ spare yarn - my mums gloves match a jumper i made her.
