biography: isaac grew up with his single mother on a hill in derry, maine and they were happy. he played with his toys and drew pictures while his mother watched televangelists. until his mother starts hearing a voice, telling her to take away the sins corrupting her son. she does, taking away his toys and drawings. the voice tells her that he must be cut off from all the evil in the world, and she obliges, locking a four-year-old isaac in his room alone for days at a time. once more, that voice spoke to her, telling her that it questions her devotion, and when she asks what she should do, the voice telss her to sacrifice her son. his mother obliges once again, grabbing the butcher's knife from the kitchen and heading to his room. isaac had been watching in the crack in his door, though, and he rns to hide as he panics. under the rug in his room he finds a trapdoor and he jumps in, just before his mother walks into the room. he has to battle through monsters in the basement, encountering horrific entities the further into the basement he goes.
he dies over and over, and each time he dies, he starts back up in his room, staring at the form of his mother getting closer and closer. he has the knowledge of each previous run, making subsequent ones easier. in some runs he sides with the devil, taking black hearts to survive in the depths, gaining access to demonic powers no kid should ever have. in others, he finds angel rooms after defeating a boss and gets access to angelic powers beyond his dreams.
isaac is stuck in this loop for what seems like ever, having experienced it over and over. he discovers that he's been stuck in the loop for two years when he finally defeats delirium, the final boss in the void. afterwards, isaac finds himself in a storm drain near the police station, and he rusn there to report to the police what happened. they get him somewhere safe and take care of him while they arrest his mother. after that, he lives with his grandmother, a kind woman who encourages him and is always there for him.
as he got older, isaac thought he hallucinated most of what he went through, thinking there was no possible way that he fought the seven deadly sins or the horsemen of the apocalypse or satan or archangels -- but he went through all of it. the things he fought weren't the actual beings, though; they were grotesque bastardisations based on his mother's beliefs. he started to remember it all when he moved to los angeles to attend college at 18, the memories unlocked by the powers he started to discover.
now with the great darkness defeated, isaac having played a large role in the fight on earth, he's a bit lost as to what to do.
