Sometimes, trolling through museum websites and catalogues for content for this blog, you stumble across some odd things. For example:

A small collection of bronze crabs cast in Padua in the early 16th century, housed at the Kunsthistorischesmuseum, Vienna. Though it isn’t clear on all of them, their backs open up to reveal a small alcove hidden in the body (as can be seen on the first example).

I think they’re pretty cute!
