Her First Day on the Job
The blonde sighed when the other woman mentioned coming here earlier. “Yeah, there was a problem with my ride.” A miscommunication with her parents– totally not her fault. But hey, she did get here, and that was what was important.
“Alright, cool!” Callie followed her to the back room, plastering a smile on her face. “Don’t you worry ma’am, I got this! I’m gonna learn like…” She snapped her fingers. “Like that!” Did the girl know that for a fact? Nope; not in the slightest. However, did she want to make a good first impression so the boss would like her and hopefully not fire her at least until she paid back her parents? Of course. That said, she was going to learn quickly, or at least make an effort to. After all, the sooner she started, the sooner she finished, and the sooner she could leave.
“Well, these things happen.” She was speaking mostly on autopilot, most of her brain still focused on what she had to do. The back room was tiny, filled with various fabrics and things that Kayo seemed to have no problem navigating around. She shifted a half-mended skirt on a chair, which had been covering the name tag and ID she had made for the girl earlier in the day.
“We’ll be putting that claim to the test quickly. In the meantime, put this on.” She handed over the name tag. “Every day, you clock in and out by sliding your ID card through here.” She tapped on a small device on the wall by the door. “Slide it like this and then make sure that it reads.” She slid the card through the reader, checking the display. That done, she handed it to Callie.
