âŠ"What if someone catches us?â
"Aw, câmon. Live a little, Misty," Nikki said to the blonde cheekily as she put on the three purple, green, and gold beads sheâd caught as they were tossed off the brightly colored floats. "We ainât gonna get caught by no hunters beinâ out here at the Mardi Gras parade, âspecially when thereâs plentyâa people whoâd see them first," she reached up to catch another trio of beaded necklaces, handing them to Misty. ââSides, you should be more worried about Cordelia findinâ us, and how mad is she really gonna be if she and the others are out here too?" She asked, playfully hiding her face with her mask.
Nikki slowed her stride, making sure that Misty stayed by her side. Despite the prudence of not losing her friend, she couldnât help but feel an overwhelming sense of excitement. It had been a long time since she had really enjoyed herself, what with her own job of protecting the coven and Zoe, Misty, and Queenie teaching the girls how to use their powers, this was the perfect opportunity to set aside time to just have fun, and she was determined to show Misty all the fun Mardi Gras had to offer.
"Thatâs the spirit!" Nikki commended with a smile, her brown eyes settling on Zoe, Kyle and Queenie among the bustling crowds. "This is gonna be a great night, I promise ya that." she assured, focusing back on Misty.
The redhead rolled her eyes at the boyâs hollering, but kept an eye on them as the two kept walking. âItâs a tradition for women âta show off their breasts in exchange for doubloons and beads, apparently since the nineteenth century. We may see some people doinâ it.â Nikki explained, a smile forming once again as Misty slipped the bead over her head. Â
The redhead laughed, dancing to the beat of the jazz music that filled the air as more large, bright floats passed them by.
âAnd I for one agree with ya completely. Besides, this is way better then hearinâ them complain to the moon and back about how they didnât get âta see the parade and suchâŠOh, look at that!â She pointed to the decorated stilt walkers as they came closer, miraculously being able to balance as the tread down the street.
"Ainât that somethinâ?" Nikki said, turning back to Misty. "Thereâs a lot more ahead, they still need âta crown the Mardi Gras King!"
Mistyâs eyes sparkled as she looked around, her expression was a mix of fear and awe as she watched crowd of people. She kept close to Nikki though her eyes wondered about the crowds of people and floats that passed by them,
âI donât doubt it will be.â
The Cajun woman smiled as she began to adjust to the surrounding slowly, taking comfort in seeing a couple of the girls run by with masks and beads. Their laughter reassured her that even though it may be dangerous for them all to be in such an enclosed area. Her eyes widened as the hunter beside her explained the process of getting beads, she blushed deeply,
âWhy do woman cave to the indecent ways of men like that?â
Her lack of knowledge with modern times may have made her appear to be daft, yet for Misty it kept her elegance intact as well as her feminine pride. Nikkiâs words made Misty laugh, just before she pointed out the stilt walkers passing them, Misty stared up at them in wondering how they were capable of balancing on such skinny stilts,
âHow do they walk like that, they make it look so natural!â
She shouted over the resounding beat of the jazz music, something she had grown accustom to since being a part of the Coven. Honestly it reminded her of the stateâs culture, something she was deeply rooted in being a part of the land for so long.
âThis whole place is like a fairy tale!â
She beamed as she let the music take her over as well, she twirled around elegantly,
âMardi Gras King? When do they do that?â
