I want to be like her when I grow up.

My grandma Violet (her married name was McKitterick, but she was Swedish) used to do rosemaling on everything. I always thought those little flowery blue designs made a room feel so much more lived-in and welcoming.

When l was little, she taught me to paint like that, and I (or maybe my dad) still have one thing l made at age 4 or so, a shoebox-sized wooden plaque with primitive rosemaling surrounding the statement,

Violet is very beautiful

(though probably misspelled)

This photoset reminds me of her every time l see it. She was such a kind, sweet woman, who provided most of my happy childhood memories. Thank you, Tumblr.

she and her husband were my favorite grandparents, and served as a model for the relationship I always wanted. his name was Harvey, and their playful love made the world feel warmer and more welcoming

now I’m finally in that longed-for relationship, and in honor of them we named our baby Harvey ❤
