Mount Laurel Martial Arts Black Belt Test Success!
On October 17, 2015, Master Micheal Dinoto and Dinoto Karate Center in Mount Laurel NJ successfully held their black belt test. Twenty four students tested for their black belts.
Saturday’s test was the culmination of a great week for Master Dinoto and the school.Master Dinoto and the school were particularly honored to have several masters visit and sit on the testing board during the test. Visits from Master Robert Laramie, Master Danefelzer, Master Gebrehmedin, Master Padgurek, and Master Liciaga.
The "test" itself actually started on Monday. Master Dinoto, along with the DKC instructors, spent the week leading up to the black belt test talking to and training all the candidates ensuring that they were not only prepared physically, but mentally as well.12:00 PM Saturday brought the actual test. Test was held at Burlington County Institute of Technology in Westampton NJ. Testing for Black Belt at Dinoto Karate Center is a closed door to the public. However, all family and friends are welcome to come and support all the candidates. Roll call was 12:15 PM sharp and Master Dinoto entered the "testing hall" and was greeted with a full floor of Masters and students lined up in rank order, in uniform ready for the test!
We are proud to say that we had 100% attendance at this test. Every student that was asked to participate was present. The Black Belt Test at Dinoto Karate Center is a test of a student’s skill, their physical and mental endurance, the strength of their will, and their martial arts knowledge. Our test is simple: Students prove their ability in all of the arts that comprise the Korean martial arts, Tang Soo Do.
The four hour long event included Sparring, standing and ground self-defense, kicking and striking techniques, forms (hyungs), One-step sparring, board breaking and of course the endurance test.Facing challenge after challenge with little rest and only one five minute pause for water, this is a test of the indomitable spirit - a warriors heart, as well as technical skill. The test is not just about combat and fighting. To be a true Black Belt, a student must understand the history, background and mental aspect of the arts - the "why" of what they do.It is important to understand that, as with any true test, success is not guaranteed. If a student does not pass the challenges, they have three months to meet with Master Dinoto and restest the failed segment.Master Dinoto has often said that one of the defining characteristics of a Black Belt is that they will never give up, and thus cannot be defeated. This spirit is what our new Black Belts showed.Exhausted mentally and physically, they faced each new challenge with the heart of a warrior.
