Bob giving up control of his life to the physical embodiment of his depression and then beating himself up over it and the void just becoming more powerful as a result is such a perfect metaphor. like yeah, that's exactly how it is, you can't beat depression with self-loathing, you need support and purpose and the people you love and loves you. they pulled it off beautifully

ngl one of the funniest scenes to me in thunderbolts was when bob wakes up at the watchtower and valentina gears up to manipulate his ass only for him to interrupt her saying « what happened to Yelena ☹️😢 » and val is just so off put by that and drops the ‘nurturing mother’ act for a second to outright say « YeLeNa….🤨🤢 » in the most disinterested and dissapointed tone lollll

no because it’s really really important to me that in a world where we’re so used to the heroes punching and shooting their way to victory, thunderbolts* went out of its way to show us that the void is still very much a part of bob, and bob is their friend, so they’re going to accept every facet of who he is and give him a soft place to land, even if that means they’ll have to be the ones to pull him back from the darkness every single time. because that’s what friends family will do for each other, no questions asked.
