You know, I’ma say it. I’m the first person to say just shoving two characters together with no development is poor writing but guess what, PeterMJ, isn’t poor writing and here’s why:
We have Homecoming, Peter’s a sophomore (grade 10). We have IW, Peter’s a junior (grade 11), and then we have FFH which should put Peter probably spring break of his junior year or the summer before he starts his senior year (grade 12). So, what y’all are saying is that, Peter Parker can develop a crush on Liz in 1 (one) year because we can assume he met Liz IN HIGH SCHOOL given she’s older than him and since he’s only been in high school a YEAR. Clearly, he would have only had time to develop a crush on her in 1 (one) year. But, for some reason, it’s SO UNREALISTIC, for Peter Parker to have developed a crush on MJ between late October/Early November (based on when most Homecomings take place) through Spring break the NEXT year or the summer which is ALMOST 2 years.
Idk but if Peter can have a crush on Liz in a year, he can have a crush on MJ in a year and a half. That’s pretty plausible.
Also, they’re literally teenagers. Teenagers, a good portion of the time, jump from one crush to another. It’s literally part of being a teenager and talking to new people and just trying to communicate and get by. Teenagers develop crushes quickly and move on quickly.
Another point, Peter LITERALLY just had to watch Tony Stark, one of the most important people in his life (Tony antis are not welcomed to try and dispute this because it’s literally right there in the films and coming out RDJ’s and Tom Holland’s mouths), DIE. Tony Stark died a brutal death. Like, it was hard to watch and I’m nearly 23 and he’s a fictional character. So, imagine a 16-year-old fictional character dealing with that in that fictional world. That’s gonna screw him up a bit. Which brings me to my point:
It had been 5 MONTHS. Who are ANY of y’all to decide how long someone grieves and takes time off???? Of course, yeah, I would have LOVED to have seen HOW Peter dealt with this but we didn’t get it so oh well. Instead, we get the 5-month gap where he’s gonna go to Europe and after EVERYTHING. Dying, coming back to life, bring thrown right back into a war, and then watching ANOTHER father-figure die, the kid wants to fucking go to Europe with his friends and chill with this girl he has a crush on.
He decides while in Europe, he can take that break and be NORMAL. Normal is talking to his crush and telling her he likes her because it’s been a year and a half since he had a date to Homecoming and his life has been shit lately so damn, let the kid have a crush.
And my final point: this is the same kid who asked Liz to Homecoming and 5 hours later called her his girlfriend. But, sure, PeterMJ doesn’t make sense.
And no, I won’t be listening to people and try and argue this. It’s fiction. Let people enjoy things (especially something like this when it’s literally done quite well) Make your own post or get blocked ✌🏻
