Heeft Clark Kent al een baan?

Vorige maand nam Clark Kent ontslag bij dagblad de Daily Planet, omdat hij het niet eens was met de populistische richting van de krant. Zijn ontslag had plaats in Superman #13, na een tirade over de staat van de journalistiek:

„Feiten zijn vervangen door meningen. Informatie is vervangen door entertainment. (…) Ik kan niet de enige zijn die misselijk wordt van wat er tegenwoordig voor nieuws doorgaat.”

Verschillende media schreven dat Clark Kent verder zou gaan als blogger, maar dat was alleen gebaseerd op een opmerking van schrijver Scott Lobdell in de USA Today:

„Het is aannemelijker dat hij de nieuwe Huffington Post of Drudge Report opzet dan dat hij iemand anders zoekt om zijn opdrachten en salarisstrook van te krijgen.”

In de strip zelf is er echter nog geen sprake van een nieuwe baan. Sterker nog, Lois Lane bezoekt Kent in het deze maand verschenen Superman #14 en treft hem als volgt aan:

Een rendabel verdienmodel heeft Kent dus nog niet gevonden. Maar, hij blijft bij zijn oorspronkelijke kritiek:

President of Cuba 'willing to talk to USA'

The Cuban president Raul Castro has said today that his country is open for a dialogue with the United States, a country with which Cuba has not had diplomatic relations for over half a century.

"If they want to talk, we will talk."Washington would have to be prepared to hear Cuba's own complaints about the treatment of those issues in the United States and its European allies, he added."We are nobody's colony, nobody's puppet," President Castro said.

'Majority of Bolivians don't want a third term for Evo Morales'

According to Bolivian newspaper Página Siete, almost six out of ten Bolivians do not want president Evo Morales to renew his mandate for a third time.

Morales was elected president of Bolivia at the end of 2005. After his first period (2006-2010) the country approved a new constitution, and Morales was elected for a second term which is supposed to end with elections in 2014.

Because of the new constitution however, Morales has said several times (at least six times, according to Página Siete) that he is eligible to run again in 2014.

According to the poll that the newspaper published however, 59 percent of those asked, would not want him to run for a third term. 34 percent support him running for reelection.

In the two most recent presidential elections, Morales received a large majority of the votes. The poll indicates that he is not as popular anymore as he once was.

Gifts for TIPNIS, 10 days before 'consulta'

President Evo Morales has visited the TIPNIS indigenous region yesterday, bringing presents like mobile phone connections, solar panels, school supplies and radio equipment, according to Bolivian newspaper Página Siete today. He even brought some football players who were part of the Bolivian slection in the World Cup of 1994.

Ten days before the consultation process - a sort of referendum, stretched out for weeks - on whether or not to build a highway through the Amazone territory, Morales came to defend the referendum. “I have not come to campaign, but to defend the consultation process because it is a right of the indigenous peoples”, Morales said according to the newspaper.

In related news, 15 members of the Bolivian parliament will travel to TIPNIS this weekend to work as electoral observers. All 15 are members of the governing MAS party.

Politieagenten hebben meer oog voor de wedstrijd dan voor een eventueel misdragend publiek, gisteravond in het stadion Hernando Siles bij de wedstrijd tussen Bolívar en Wilstermann.

Wilstermann heeft gisteravond onverwacht de finale van de Cine Center Cup gewonnen. Bolívar (spelend in het blauw) had gedacht dat zijn 3-1 uit-overwinning in Cochabamba genoeg was om de beker te winnen. Maar het elftal uit La Paz speelde klungelig en verloor met 1-2. Daardoor moest de finale met penalty’s worden beslist. Wilstermann won die met 3-2.

Daarmee gaat de club met 80.000 dollar naar huis. De weinige supporters die mee waren gekomen uit Cochabamba zullen een mooie avond hebben gehad. De lokale krant Opinión kopte vanochtend: wie het laatst lacht, lacht het best.
