The live music Industry is facing catastrophic collapse with the loss of hundreds of thousands of freelance and permanent staff. As venues, tours, and productions have no roadmap back to work the state of the industry is in a dire state.
Please remember the touring music industry is staffed by an army of truck drivers, bus drivers, riggers, box office, lighting, sound and video crew, backline techs, catering staff, carpenters, designers, musicians, local crew, merchandise sellers, production managers and co-ordinators, tour managers, draughtsmen, engineers, automation specialists, warehouse staff, equipment rental companies plus a huge industry of technologists designing and making all the equipment that make the shows work.
The industry is huge and is not just about headline artist, its about grass root musicians who make a small living doing shows in tiny clubs rising to theatres, festivals and arenas.
There has been no government support for a huge number in the industry as the income support schemes don't apply. It may seem frivolous to some that music and the arts is not essential - but the billions it adds to the economy and the joy it brings to millions makes it essential to so many.
