BLACK ZONE MYTH CHANT + PETE UM
Thu 14th January @ The Blue Moon, Norfolk St Doors 8pm, £5 adv from here
BLACK ZONE MYTH CHANT
BZMC is a recently revived moniker brought to you by the mysterious man behind Franceās #1 pysche-drone export, High Wolf. Under this alternative guise, we get drawn into a swirly blur of chopped-and-screwed hip hop loops, springy synth drops, and psyche-dub bass meanderings, all with an eye on the experimentations of the the Afrofuturists. Result: a Sun Ra and Tangerine Dream hook-up remixed in a back-and-forth fashion by RP Boo and DJ Screw.

C JOYNES + NICK JONAH DAVIS + 23 HANGING TREES
JOINT EP/LP LAUNCH GIG
Sat 15th May @ The Blue Moon, Norfolk St Doors 8pm, £4 adv from here
C JOYNES
The contemporary Histon Giant, C Joynes, follows up his outstanding collaboration with Stephanie Hladowski, The Wild Wild Berry, with an EP previewing solo versions of material from an upcoming album recorded with long-time fellow travellers Dead Rat Orchestra. As is his wont, Joynes draws on source materials from field recordings and local cassettes gathered from around the world, and weaves this together with his Anglicised take on Primitivism. As The Dead Cās Bruce Russell puts it āāAs much Conlon Nancarrow and Ali Farka Toure as Blind Lemon Jefferson, the compositional mind at work here can take apparently disparate threads of modernism and ethnic tradition and treat them as though they were all archaic blues styles learnt from dusty 78s.āā C Joynes
NICK JONAH DAVIS
Nottingham-based Nick Jonah Davis is a formidable guitarist in the tradition of Bert Jansch, Nick Drake, etc. Though thereās a clear comparison to be made with the monolithic John Fahey, perhaps thereās a more British sensibility to his playing. Making use of modal tunings to create a resonating whole, Davisās spindly melodies sometimes hither and thither on top, whilst at other times forthright lines are prominent. The effect is always a thoroughly rich and nourishing, highly spirited series of wordless tales. We celebrate the release of his new LP, House Of Dragons, on the excellent Lancashire & Somerset label. Nick Jonah Davis
23 HANGING TREES
