Staking the Ham: Post-Modernist Narratives and the Pig’s Compulsion, Understanding Subversion in Lalondian Psychoanalysis
Abstract: This essay explores the notion of “the pig’s compulsion” in post-modernist narratives with respect to its manifestations in psychoanalytic theory and subversive literary performance. For this purpose it looks at a number of case studies conducted by D. Lalonde during the mid to late Stakeham period and a selection of short stories and novel excerpts published between 2059 and 2102 in The Postmodernist’s Bookshelf. The essay suggests that, rather than viewing the pig’s compulsion as an extension of polymorphous, self-atrophic denial, scholars in the field should consider re-configuring the existing frameworks to embed it within the scope of transgression.
