VIGILANTES & VILAIN — STARTERPACK
how do you meet each other + headcanons (x fem!reader) featuring! : DAREDEVIL , BULLSEYE, THE PUNISHER
word count : 3.7k
A/N : i think you could tell who's my fav in this trio with the way i write em... excuse the grammatical mistakes. also note that for the bullseye part i had in mind more Lester than Benjamin, but that not really impacting the story so…
DAREDEVIL | MATTHEW MURDOCK
being the author of a popular fanzine about daredevil made you exposed to any kinds of threat,
even tho you were anonymous, hiding behind a username. the kingpin and all the panoply of vilains from nyc had many, plenty of times targeted you.
oh you were aware, but nothing big really happened to you. the kingpin and his allies had tried to shut you down : first by sending their puppets to threaten you, secondly censoring your work, and then speaking up about the danger of the vigilantes and their horrific propaganda that is tearing apart the city.
it never get more far than people following you and silently threatening you by scaring you.
it was like something or— someone was protecting your back.
because your work catch everyone attention.
from the teenagers who’s excitedly read about the monthly classement of daredevil suits and debating to which issues of your work they prefer,
to a blind guy who’s protecting in the shadow a young woman since a month ago now; wandering why on earth she could have made herself the enemy of all hell’s kitchen vilains ?
but since he know that the girl he protect every nights is the author of this fanzine. he refuse to enter in any contact with you,
perhaps scared of making your life twice worse and ending up to you killed to be one : an acquaintance of daredevil. and two : a spreader of vigilantism.
or maybe it was selfishness. because matt loved to observe you from afar,
the constant smell of ink stinking up your clothes,
the way you tried to be the most discret at night when you go out to stick your posters on the metro wall and putting in every corner of hell’s kitchen your silly colorful fanzine.
how you have an eye for every details. how coincidentally your work have plenty of textures not knowing that the man you do it for is actually blind.
daredevil love the way you act, and he the way you live. chaotic, colorful and ditzy. you.
he yearn for you. matt want so bad to be part of your life, your daily life.
and he know that you would love that too. you seem to understand every facet of him beside you never meet him,
it have to be fate. right?
matt couldn’t take again a month knowing you from afar. he want to know you as much as you know daredevil.
even if it means putting you in more danger.
at the end of the day he will be there for you, so it’s not selfishness is it?
—on a rainy night daredevil was busy at the other side of hell’s kitchen. a serious affair. matt could feel everything, his sharpen senses awakened as ever, he could ear every single sound that this neighborhood could make.
but as like a reflex, his hearing choose to hear one thing beyond everything else : your scream.
his body, without thinking make his way the faster he could to you. running from rooftop to rooftop.
he prayed to god for a situation that would make him bump into you, but not one of that kind…
arriving, he could feel you stuck in a dark alley blocked by thugs, one of them pulling your hair and have his knife on your throat.
"see sweetheart what you make us do? sad that you choose to be on the vigilante side, you could have made a perfect ally for the kingpin— and now look at how it’s going to end— my knife in your pretty throat-"
daredevil couldn’t listen to more, he rapidly handle the situation. thanks to his billy club, his strong fists and also his intimidating alter ego.
now all of them beaten and surely unable to walk for the next months, daredevil has his back turn to you. catching his breath,
calming himself by your signature scent and your living heartbeat.
"thank you," your sudden voice take him off guard,
facing you now, he couldn’t see you but he feel that you were slowly getting over the situation.
"you shouldn’t be out at night. " he said, trying to make his voice less intimidating to you. but still firm.
in which you let it out a small chuckle, now slightly smiling and staring at him with no shame.
"well, it is your duty isn’t it? to protect the innocent,"
"you right." oh matt tried his best to keep a serious face but the small smirk coming trough his lips couldn’t be stopped.
you were cocky and he liked that.

BULLSEYE | LESTER & BENJAMIN POINDEXTER
bullseye was mad pissed.
today was a bad day to be a citizen of new york city and surely more to be an assassin.
independent assassin.
nyc got blessed with an awful weather,
he got stood up by the mafia member he dealing with, well used to.
and by seeking him and his fellow men, bullseye got trapped in a ambush by them.
of course he killed most of them until they surrendered. because if he murder all of the mafia who will pay him?
with the money of who— he will repair his suit ?!—huh.
bullseye as always had given a breath taking performance of his ability to aim perfectly in a horrific way.
he miss not a single target. of course, he never miss.
but the thing is, he’s not bulletproof nor fireproof. which is why he ended up with a torn suit, and a bitchy attitude.
as the day pass the sky cleared, he wandered through the city all day searching of something to pep himself up.
murdering a couple by sitting in the tree of the park,
trying the new chinese fast food nearby, …no
none of these thing were making him happy.
walking trough a dirty alley, he wondered how he will manage to repair his suit.
the next week he have a job to eliminate a new upcoming politician that fisk is considering as a threat for his mayor campaign.
the kingpin had promised him a good price for this mission,
beside it is not the first nor the last time bullseye work for him, so fisk usually spoil him with fair sum.
enough for him and maybe if he was a normal man with a decent girl to go with on vacation?, buying a penthouse or even a private beach.
stopping to the corner of the street, his eyes wandering in the void with a cigarette on his lips, bullseye thoughts got interupted by the muffled sounds of girls talking and the noise of machines.
small machine, doing the sound of a mini SMG.—
eyeing his environment, he jumped on the nearest rooftop to see.
he did not think much of why he did that, perhaps it was his subconscious mind trying to cheer up his day.
whatever.
furrowing his brows, cigarette now between his finger, he watch the view in front of him.
girls chatting near the window,
others cutting and assembling pieces of tissues on manequins,
and one girl back facing him working on a sewing machine.
ah, a fashion school.
mostly young women studying here, vulnerable, easy targets to effraid which means to— exloit?
yes he will definitely cause chaos just for his own cause.
as alway.
—walking around the building, he chooses to make his great entrance into the back window.
a huge window, easy to open enough for him to be dramatic.
throwing his cigarette in a fast way that the thing had the impact of a bullet on the window, making it fissures then break.
the girls got surprised, they yelp to the sound.
then screamed when they saw him leaning on one side of the wall as if he didn’t climb (jump) a three story building.
"oh my god what happened?!," he could hear mutter as he again lazily look to his environment, enjoying.
"who is he ?—shut up it’s bullseye!, run!"
few of them wandered who he was still in shock,
while most of the girls panicked and tried to run away, like they wanted to— ruin the moment?
they are not funny bullseye thought, he hadn’t even talk they run. that not fair of them.
like a reflex he arm himself with the stuffs of the room.
cissors,
needles,
spools of thread.
he did not plan to kill them he swear, is they had reacted in a different way they’ll live!
and they did not let him talk! hundred percent deserved.
naturally he let none of the girls alive, each moving target got eliminated thanks to his amazing sight!—
"snif—snif..huff-" …
what was that?
up on a table he could hear the badly muffled sound of someone miserably crying.
between his fingers, the last set of needles waiting to be used his own way
bullseye jumped to the ground like a cat, he felt seen but definitely not threatened.
walking lazily,
whistling a melody he heard previously today,
and playing with the needles;
then he found his last target causing all this little ruckus :
the girl who were working on the sewing machine.
now below her working table as if it was protecting her from him.
she sniffed again, looking at him with her hands up
slowly making her way out of the table,
he chuckle, smirking to the view
"sniff—uh- please- do not hu-hurt me-"
tilting his head to the side as if he tried subconsciously again to appear less intimidating and at her height.
still with his grin, he let her words wandered through the room as he was thinking to what to say.
because after all, he just wanted to have fun while having a free opportunity to stitch his suit right?
and this girl standing in front of him,
as small she was looking right now with her little sad eyes and pouting lips was definitely cute.
naive to think he could let her live,
but innocent of who he was.
pretty,
and useful.
"shh, sweetie it’s okay" bullseye mutter to her, pulling a tissu from his pocket and holding to her
she jump and stiffen to his action, clearly intimidated of him.
bullseye pupils could be seen dilating, oh he enjoys that.
you took the tissu glancing down from it to him,
"wipe those sad tears from your lovely face won’t you-huh? and may i ask you a service ?"
« may i ask you » as if he was giving you the choice to refuse whatever he wants to do to you.
you feared the worst, trying to dry your face without stopping looking at him as if you do he will throw theses needles in the depths of your eyeballs.
you could hear your heart beating faster as the silence took place in the room
your body tremble of fear.
but his was relaxed, his eyes was looking behind you and you could almost heard his thoughts.
he seems to have a discussion in his head,
"do you own one of these at your place ?" his voice cutting the air
all you could manage to say was : "huh?… wh-what?—".
"sewing machine."
your head tilt to what he was talking about, « uh, yes i do- sir »
you tried to calm your mind by breathing slowly, in no other universes you could guess what will happen in the next hours.
"got a dirty deal today, mind if i come to your pretty house and you use your delicates hands to stitch up my suit ?"
not a terrible day after all.
HEADCANONS
Bullseye who! after this day would occasionally come again to repair the smallest hole on his suit just to have an excuse to see you
Bullseye who! will manipulate you so you will keep your mouth shut,
like you had planned to denounce him… and he know how to break you, so in few weeks you’ll be all for him
Bullseye who! is unsure why he want you and your attention, because in the beginning, your interactions are just distractions to keep his mood cheer up,
to make him avoid doing more mess he’s already doing.
Bullseye who! at the beginning the only purpose of this relationship was just to please him,
to play with you like all his previous targets
Bullseye who! is mesmerized by your nature that it attract him more and more to you
WHAT IF… in a RELATIONSHIP
Bullseye who! do not love. no, he’s incapable of that but will make your love relationship work in a twisted way
Bullseye who! at the end of your college year would incite you to work with him— well, to accompany him everywhere he goes
Bullseye who! will still manipulate, and use you for his own purposes and gain
Bullseye who! make you at 100% dependent on him,
with his work he can literally become millionaire so… trust him please!
Bullseye who! won’t show you that he care about you by words but with services, aftercare and late at night sleepy hugs after sex.
Bullseye who! is definitely only gentle with you when both of you are vulnerable,
after a rough night of sex,
early in the morning
and when he have enough free time for him that it make him feel like he’s a normal dude with his girl living in a expensive apartment.
THE PUNISHER | FRANK CASTLE
coming in america especially new york city while not being able to talk properly english, was complicated.
it is not like you did not spoke english! yes you do,
you used to have the best grades in this class back in high school,
you have a pretty good level tho,
and you can take a full detailed discution but… in your head only
it’s like you’re tongue-tied whenever you open your mouth.
you refused to live all your life like that! and this year is your year!
after you passed your final college examens, gathering your guts, you made the right and bold decision to go on a internship in nyc
since then everything was perfect,
you booked your small apartment in the neighborhood of hell’s kitchen
the flight was fine
and— you lost your travel bag.
oh this wasn’t fine, because it put you in a.. awkward position ?
now standing in front of a annoyed service agent, you tried to explain yourself but she kept interrupting you
"miss you gotta be more clear, this is not possible that our company lost your bag. beside if in the following days we find it we will contact you-"
"n-no you don’t understand, i had-have ? everything in it! like, my—cards…credit card and—"
you tried to resonate her multiple times but she kept replying at you with that condescending attitude.
it was pissing you off, oh you were upset and a lot.
"you know what-, this company sucks i’m not gonna continue to talk with a nasty agent!"
with that, you decided to camp at the exterior of the airport to calm you down and…wait for your baggage to luckily pop up
because not many options were offered to you.
in your confortable outfit, hoodie on, only your purse at your side and wired headphones on your ears
eyes looking forward, zoning out.
silently reconsidering your choices in life and your brain blank
it was impossible to you to get in your apartment since your id card is in your missing bag as long with your credit card.
impossible to sleep in a confortable bed tonight,
nice, your first night in nyc sleeping under the stars-
"hum.. miss- excuse me to bother you,"
surprised by the man calling you out, ripping those wired headphones from your ears
you starred at him with round eyes, mouth slightly open and unconsciously analyzing him
tall, buzz cut, tight face with a crocked nose and a uniform— a solider ?
"uh—yes may i help you sir?" you managed to say
why on earth a (fine) military guy would be talking to you? wait— he’s from the navy. what have you done?
was your punishment for yelling to the agent previously?— it’s so over-
he had a card in his hand but you cannot see properly; then he dictate your name :
"is that you?" he looked at you awkwardly,
only nodding your head you get up, now standing tall.
this was getting serious,
"well we might have something that belong to you, that accidentally ended up in our packages… follow me, shall we"
you end up walking with him throught the airport, trailing behind the man who identified himself as frank castle
you now have found your lovely bag.
—you seem more pacify but still you look lost and a bit anxious, this is what frank could tell while silently glancing at you as you were checking your stuffs.
had a small talk with you when both of you walked,
young student here alone in a big city for an internship,
he had a bit of pity for you. this was your first stressful experience from nyc and definitely not the last,
oh and he know it.
from his own experience..
since he came back from deployment, he was sure tired but the sight of you lost was enough for him to fight off the tiredness in him.
frank wanted to help you,
he was just being a good samaritan
and it was simple to convince you
maybe the fact he was in military rassured you and he was thankful for that.
saying goodbye to his comrades, he then leave with you
to help you to get acclimated to the city.
he payed the tips at the coffre shop you choosed even tho he’s not a big fan of these.
this side quest of your day that frank offered you was only to make you feel better.
discussion with you were nice, seems you are a polite, and kind girl.
beside the small language barrier, the awkward moments when he tried to understood you…
frank let himself get attached to you, and your silly way to communicate
"you sure i’m not bothering you? frank you seem tired, didn’t you finish your assignment? your family isn’t waiting for yo-" you repeated for the 3rd time,
and he, since the first time he only smile and rassures you
"don’t worry, im good. and i wanted to,"
both you end up exchanging your number, frank said that whenever you needed help he’ll be there.
but the last time you tried to call him, his number was non assigned, …
that’s strange?
what may have happened to him ?.

𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 : As promised, Eddie shows up to take you to school. What starts as a simple ride quickly turns into a morning spent stuck together in class, filled with whispered jokes and unexpected existential conversations; so much so that Mr. Parker nearly throws you both out. When Eddie discovers your shocking lack of experience with fast food, he takes it as a personal challenge and drags you out for lunch at what he proudly calls the best fast-food place in Hawkins. While laughter and greasy fries make the day lighter, something else lingers in your mind. Regret for not acting sooner weighs on you, you find yourself yearning for Mina’s presence and friendship. In an attempt to finally explain yourself, you struggle to find her.
𝗔/𝗡 : yo i’m back, was supposed to post this yesterday but got stuck on the summary; i didn’t really know what to write bc this chapter got cut in different parts throughout my week… also, comment if u wanna be added to my taglist! anyway good lecture ;q .
Eddie’s car was already there when you stepped out of your house. Parked a little crooked in front of the gate, engine running, music a little too loud for that hour. You paused for a second on the porch, your Birkin slung on your shoulder, Ace still half-asleep behind the door. You hadn’t expected him to arrive so early. The driver’s window rolled down with a tired screech. “Morning, sunshine.” His voice was still a little rough, like he wasn’t fully awake either. You rolled your eyes, but a small smile betrayed you anyway. You walked down the steps and climbed into the passenger seat. The inside smelled like cold coffee and worn leather. Cassette tapes were scattered across the dashboard. He pulled away gently, much calmer than usual. The road was almost empty, wrapped in that pale early-morning light. Trees drifted past the window, and you realized that, for once, you didn’t have that familiar knot in your stomach at the thought of school.
“You okay today?” he asked without looking directly at you, eyes fixed on the road. You shrugged. “Better than yesterday.” A silence settled between you, not awkward. Just… quiet. The radio crackled before he turned it off with a clumsy movement. “Sorry. Too early for Megadeth. Even for me.” A small laugh escaped you. “I was ready to suffer anyway.” He smiled at that, pleased, before speaking again. “I mean… I’m glad you said yes. For the ride.” He cleared his throat. “And for coming back to school.” You watched the road stretch ahead of you. “I have to.”
He nodded like he had expected that answer. The school appeared at the end of the street, big and gray, already surrounded by students. Eddie slowed down without you asking. “Hey.” He finally turned his head toward you. “You don’t have to talk to anyone you don’t want to. Just… stick with me. I’m very annoying but also very persistent.” “I noticed.”
He parked but kept the engine running. You grabbed your bag, hesitating for a second before opening the door. “Thanks for coming,” you said softly. He shrugged, pretending not to care. “Any excuse to skip a long boring walk. And…” he paused, “I kinda like mornings like this. Quiet ones.” By pure coincidence, you and Eddie ended up having the same classes all morning. So the two of you were stuck together, talking about pretty much anything and everything; so much that Mr. Parker eventually threatened to separate you.
The classroom was half asleep. Mr. Parker droned on about something involving numbers and a chalkboard that had definitely seen better days. You sat next to Eddie, notebooks open, pretending to take notes while your mind was absolutely somewhere else. Eddie leaned back on his chair, balancing on two legs like it was a professional sport.
He glanced at your page, then at you. “You’re not writing anything important, are you?” You looked down at your notebook. A single word was written at the top: Wednesday. “Define important.” He snorted quietly. “Yeah, that’s what I thought.” Another silence settled, broken only by pencils scratching against paper and the teacher’s voice echoing through the room. Eddie leaned closer, lowering his voice like he was about to confess a crime. “So. Serious question.”
You turned your head slightly. “That sounds dangerous.” “What’s your favorite fast food place?” You blinked. Once. Twice. “I… don’t really have one.” He frowned. “You mean like… you don’t like burgers? Or fries? Or onion rings blessed by greasy angels?” “I like them. I just… never really go.” You shrugged. “Actually, I don’t think I’ve ever been to one.”
He stared at you. Actually stared. “You’re joking.” You slowly shook your head.
“Nope.”
He straightened up in his chair, scandalized. “Okay. Hold on. You’re telling me you’ve never eaten fries out of a paper bag in a parking lot?” “No.” “Never judged people based on their burger order?” You smiled faintly. “I judge people for other things.” He put a hand on his chest like you’d wounded him. “This is… this is tragic. This is a crime against youth.” The teacher shot him a warning look and he immediately pretended to copy something from the board. Two seconds later, he leaned back toward you again. “Okay, new life goal for you. We fix that.” You raised an eyebrow. “Fix what?” “Your fast-food-less existence.” He lowered his voice even more. “Which means… we’re not staying for lunch today.”
Your heart skipped. “Eddie—” “We skip. We eat. We come back.” He grinned. “Educational field trip.” It didn’t bother you that much, the idea of being alone with Eddie, trying unhealthy fast food. You had never really eaten it before. Back in Europe, at the time, it wasn’t something that was everywhere yet, so you’d kind of been spared the strange addiction people seemed to have to it. You also remembered very clearly what Mr. Higgins had said about leaving campus during lunch. Before, it used to be normal. People would walk into town, grab fries, come back with greasy bags and the smell of oil clinging to their clothes. But after everything that had happened in Hawkins lately, the administration had shut it down. Closed campus. No exits. No excuses. So technically, leaving to eat somewhere else was definitely against the rules. But who were you to say no to Eddie when something wasn’t exactly… allowed? Eddie himself wasn’t, and probably never would be, someone who follow the rules. So, just to tease him, you whispered,
“Wait… isn’t leaving campus during lunch not allowed now?” He looked at you completely deadpan. “Who cares about Hawkins’ rules.” You laughed quietly at his expression. “I knew you were going to say that.” He grinned at you. “And if we get caught… I don’t mind getting punished with you.” “You’re impossible.” “So it’s a yes?” You turned slightly away, pretending to write something in your notebook before answering.
“Interpret it however you want… I’m in.” He raised his fist in the air like he had just won the lottery. “Yes—!” “Edward Munson!” Mr. Parker snapped sharply from the front of the class. And you really didn’t want to hear the end of that story.
You didn’t even slow down in the hallway. Eddie laughed under his breath and matched your pace. You didn’t sneak. You didn’t bother to take a look at some jocks passing by. You just… walked toward the exit with him like it belonged to you. “So you’re telling me,” he said, pushing the door open,“ “you’re not scared of getting caught?” “Not really. Rules here are weird anyway.”
The car ride was loud and chaotic in the best possible way. Eddie had the radio turned up far too high, the speakers crackling as some distorted metal song blasted through the tiny cabin. He drummed on the steering wheel with exaggerated movements, occasionally missing the rhythm and making it even worse on purpose, just to annoy you. The car smelled faintly of gasoline, cheap air freshener, and something sweet you couldn’t identify. Every bump in the road made the whole thing rattle like it might fall apart at any second.
You leaned your head against the cold window, watching Hawkins slide by in a blur of brick buildings, trees, and familiar streets.
At a red light, he glanced at you, grinning. “You look like you’re in a music video.” You rolled your eyes, but you didn’t move away from the window. “If I am, it’s a very low-budget one.” He looked at you again. Eddie had never really thought of himself as a womanizer. Quite the opposite, actually, he’d never really spent much time around girls. But with you, it was different. You weren’t just a girl, not just a friend either. You were… you. Something in between a friend, a stranger, and maybe a small crush he wasn’t ready to name yet.…Again when the chorus hit, turning the volume up just a little. “Okay but seriously… if this was a music video, this would be the part where the camera does a slow zoom on you looking mysterious out the window.” You snorted softly. “And what would you be doing?” “Me?” He thought for a second. “Driving dramatically. Hair in the wind. Pretending I don’t know I look cool.” “You absolutely know.” He gasped. “Lies. I am a humble artist.” You finally turned your head from the window to look at him. “With a very loud car.” “Atmosphere,” he corrected. “It’s called atmosphere.”
Eddie parked the van and glanced at you sideways. “You’re dangerously chill about this.” “You invited me,” you replied simply. “I’m just accepting.” He grinned at your answer. The restaurant was bright and smelled like oil and sugar. Eddie stopped in front of the menu like it was some kind of holy text. “Okay. First-timer. I take responsibility.” “You make it sound like a life-or-death choice.” “It is.” You watched him order like he’d been training for this moment his whole life.
You sat in the booth, hands folded on the table, staring at the tray in front of you like it might move on its own. The burger was wrapped in thin paper, already leaving dark stains of grease. The fries were piled in a paper, too golden to look natural. A plastic cup of soda fizzed beside it. “…So this is it?” you asked, tilting your head. Eddie grinned, clearly proud. “Behold. American lunch.” You poked the fries with one finger. “Why are they so… shiny?” “Because they’re perfect.” “In my country, if food shines, we don’t eat it.” He laughed. “You’re killing me.” You lifted the burger slightly, inspecting it from all angles. “It looks… compressed. Like it was designed.” “That’s called efficiency.” “That’s also called suspicious.”
Eddie grabbed one fry and held it out to you. “Just try one.” With the burger still in your hands, you leaned forward and took the fry with your mouth, his fingers brushing lightly against your lips. Both of you went quiet for a second, eyes meeting as if you were both waiting for a
“…Okay,” you admitted slowly. “That’s… not terrible.” He smirked, grabbing his burger. “Told ya.” Eddie immediately started devouring his burger like he hadn’t eaten in days. You followed his example, though with far less desperation. Finally you leaned back against the booth, still skeptical but less hostile, studying the greasy tray in front of you. The smell of fried potatoes and sizzling meat made your nose wrinkle.
“It’s… strange. I don’t hate it. But I won’t eat this every single day of my life,” you admitted.
Eddie laughed, the sound filling the small space of the diner. “Guess I’ll have to keep taking you out if you wanna practice not hating it,” he said, taking a bite of his burger with exaggerated enthusiasm, sauce dribbling slightly onto his hand. You smiled stupidly.
The rest of the afternoon passed in a blur of lockers slamming and teachers droning on. Eddie walked you part of the way between classes, bumping his shoulder lightly against yours whenever the halls got too crowded. Sometimes he exaggerated it, pretending you had shoved him first, whispering dramatic “hey, watch it” under his breath just to make you smile. At one point, he leaned closer just to murmur a sarcastic comment about a teacher’s tie being “a crime against humanity,” and you had to cover your mouth to keep from laughing too loudly.
When the final bell rang, he offered to drive you home, keys already in hand, but you shook your head. “I think I’m gonna walk,” you said. “I need to talk to Mina anyway.” He didn’t push it. He just nodded, a little hesitant. “Okay. Call me when you’re home, yeah?”
“Sure, Eddie,” you answered with a small, timid smile. After everything that had happened at school Monday, and the long conversation in his room yesterday’s night, you had ended up exchanging numbers “just in case.”
You searched for Mina near the bike racks, in the main hall, at the drama room, then outside by the front steps. Nothing. Her bike wasn’t there. No sign of her. The small knot of hope in your chest slowly loosened into disappointment.
“Of course,” you muttered to yourself.
So you started walking home instead, hands in your jacket pockets, Scorpions in your ears and eyes on the cracked sidewalk. The air was cooler now, the sky already turning orange at the edges. You replayed Monday in your head without meaning to : her silence, her look, the way she’d avoided your eyes. The misunderstanding sat heavy in your chest. You wondered how something so small had turned into something so loud. Every step toward home felt slower, like your thoughts were pulling you backward. Maybe she thought you didn’t care. Maybe she thought you’d chosen sides. The idea made your stomach twist. Mina had been one of the first people to talk to you when you arrived, one of the only ones who hadn’t looked at you like just someone famous instead of a person. Losing that… hurt more than you wanted to admit.
You kicked a small stone along the sidewalk, watching it bounce ahead of you. You should’ve said something sooner. You should’ve chased after her Monday. But at the time, you’d been too tired, too confused, too wrapped up in everything else. Now the silence between you felt bigger than any argument could have been.
You lifted your eyes, distracted by the squeak of bike tires on asphalt. And then you saw her.
Mina, walking her bike beside her, head down, hair falling in front of her face. You caught up to her a few steps later. Mina had stopped near the curb. She didn’t turn around right away. You could see her shoulders tense, like she already knew what was coming.
“Mina,” you said softly. She sighed and finally faced you. “You don’t have to—” “Please,” you cut in, not loud, just firm. “Just… listen.” She hesitated, then pushed her bike a little to the side and crossed her arms. “Okay.” You took a breath. “Monday. You left before I could explain anything.” Her jaw tightened. “Because I heard them.” You frowned. “Heard who?” “The popular girls,” she said. “In the hallway. They were laughing about you.” She looked down. “They said you deserved better than hanging out with nerds and freaks. That you were probably just being nice to people like me because you felt bad.” Your stomach dropped. “And then,” she added, quieter, “they said it made sense. That someone like you wouldn’t really want friends like us.” For a second, you didn’t answer. You just stared at her.
“Mina…” you whispered. “That is not the true. At all.”
She looked up, eyes unsure. “Then why didn’t you say anything?” “Because I didn’t know what you’d heard,” you said. “And when you walked away, I thought you were mad at me.” “I thought you were ashamed of me,” she admitted. That hurt more than the rumor itself.
“I’ve never been popular,” you said slowly. “Not in Paris. Not here. I may be popular in the model industry but I weren’t at school. I don’t belong with them.”
She blinked. “I like being with you,” you went on. “With the nerds. With the freaks. Because no one’s pretending. No one’s trying to win something.” She shook her head. “But they act like you’re—” “Like I’m supposed to be something else?” you cut in. “That’s their fantasy. Not mine.” Mina hugged herself. “I just didn’t want to be your… charity case.” “You’re not,” you said immediately. “You’re the only person who didn’t treat me like a story when I arrived here.” Her eyes softened. “I choose you,” you added. “Not them.”
Silence fell between you. Not heavy. Just full. “I should’ve asked you,” she said. “I should’ve run after you,” you replied. She let out a shaky laugh. “We’re bad at this.” “Yeah,” you smiled. “But we’re learning i guess.” She nudged her bike forward. “Walk with me?”
You nodded and fell into step beside her.

𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 : Tuesday rhymed with stay, so that’s what you did : you stayed home. You needed fresh air away from that awful high school. The day stretched on, slow and quiet, and the urge to talk to someone who wouldn’t judge you grew stronger with every hour. Meanwhile, Eddie couldn’t stop thinking about your absence at Hellfire. The chair next to him remained empty, and the thought of why you weren’t there… it lingered.
𝗔/𝗡 : the part 6 is here! Also school vacation is over for me and i pass my diploma this year so im really overwhelmed right now with a lot of work… so I might pause the series and focus more on shorter stories like one-shots and imagines!
Eddie arrived earlier than the others to prepare everything for the start of the campaign. Now seated on his throne, all his equipment was laid out in front of him, hidden behind his DM screen: dice, rulebooks, the scenario, and his notebook. Inside it were the descriptions of his friends’ characters, the NPCs, the possible enemies they would face… and your character.
He would never admit it, but even if you had said you didn’t want to play, he still wanted to include you in this new campaign. In a purely friendly way. Obviously. Friday night had changed something in him. It was as if he suddenly wanted to impress you; wanted you to be proud of him.
He craved your attention.
The door swung open, letting in the last stragglers. The room smelled faintly of old wood and ink, a mix of chalk dust from the drama club’s previous rehearsals and faint traces of Eddie’s incense from earlier sessions. The long table at the center was already covered with character sheets, dice, and miniature figures; carefully arranged by the players themselves, each with a little personal touch: a mug here, a stack of notes there, a folded map, a half‑finished sketch of a dungeon corridor.
Dustin set his backpack on the chair with a thump, eyes lighting up when he saw the layout. “Alright, let’s see what Eddie’s cooked up this time,” he said, peering at the miniature army of goblins and trolls. Mike followed, carefully arranging his dice, while Lucas checked over his notes like he was auditing a bank ledger. Gareth, scanning the table, muttering something about strategy and rolling dice at the right moment, clearly already planning how to wreck Eddie’s plans.
Eddie leaned back in his chair, arms crossed, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. “Ready or not, freaks of Hawkins, adventure do not waits,” he said, half-sarcastic, half-excited. The others laughed, nudging each other, teasing over character choices, pointing at the miniatures as if they were alive. The energy was chaotic but familiar; this was their world, a bubble of games, laughter, and nerdy obsession.
Through it all, Eddie’s gaze kept flicking toward the empty chair beside him. The room was alive with sound, but that empty space felt louder than any critical choice. He remembered her saying she’d come. She wasn’t here.
Eddie’s smirk faltered for the first time that session. “Where the hell is she?” he muttered under his breath, the sarcasm in his tone gone, replaced by an unusual edge of concern.
Doug looked up from his character sheet. “Who?”
Eddie didn’t answer immediately. He leaned back, tapping a pencil against the table, eyes narrowing. “Never mind,” he said finally, but the thought refused to leave him. Something about her absence felt… off. Did he do something wrong? He slipped back into his role as DM, starting to narrate the beginning of the adventure, trying to forget about you. Maybe he would talk to Mina if he ran into her tonight… or tomorrow morning. As soon as possible. Whatever. He tried not to overthink it.
Eddie lifted his eyes toward the door as most of the players began packing their things. That’s when he saw her: Mina, lingering a little behind, clearly in a hurry to leave the room. She wasn’t there for Hellfire today, just to drop something off or meet someone else—Clay or Jeff, he didn’t really care.
He stepped toward her, frowning slightly. “Hey,” he said, his voice barely betraying his concern. Mina almost startled but quickly composed herself. “Hi… Eddie,” she replied, a little tense, clutching her things to her chest. “You don’t know where she is, do you?” he asked directly, searching her face. Mina shook her head softly, avoiding his gaze. “No… I don’t think she came to school today.” He looked at her for a long moment. “Aaand you don’t know why? She was fine yesterday.”Mina lowered her eyes to the floor and shrugged, refusing to speak; as if opening her mouth would make the truth spill out.
Oh. Yeah. Something happened, and I didn’t see it.
Eddie sighed, a mix of relief and frustration in the sound. “Mm… yeah. I see.” He paused, letting her walk away into the hallway, but his eyes stayed fixed on the direction where you should have been. Even as Mina disappeared from view, your absence still lingered in the air. Eddie knew he would have to find you soon. Maybe tomorrow morning, he could pick you up for school.
…Yeah. That sounded good to him.
The morning should have been loud and hectic, with the halls of Hawkins High full of shouting, slamming lockers, and squeaking sneakers. But you weren’t there. You had chosen to stay home, to avoid the stares, the whispers, and the unspoken questions everyone seemed to ask without words. It wasn’t fear, just the need to breathe, to think, to bring some order back to the chaos, judgments, and misunderstandings.
Sitting on the floor of your bedroom, Ace curled up against you, your eyes wandered over the rays of sunlight filtering through the curtains. You tried to keep yourself busy; first tidying up the house, then taking Ace for a walk in the woods, clearly not wanting to interact with anyone.
The late afternoon passed quietly. You’d spent the day refocusing, Ace at your side, and you felt a little lighter. Yet one thought kept returning: Wayne. That nice guy you’d met at the grocery store on Saturday morning, that strange sense that he was… honest, simple, without any hidden motives. Someone reliable. Someone you could just talk to. Just talk, without being judged as “the girl from the magazine” or “the foreigner” or any other label people had invented.
You grabbed an old recipe notebook and flipped through a few pages. What if… you accidentally made a little too much, just enough to have an excuse to see him? After all, he had given you his address, and you’d promised to stop by if you had something extra to share as a thank-you. You settled on a simple but generous dessert, something that looked spontaneous and a little clumsy; exactly your style. Ace circled around you, sniffing the ingredients and nudging you lightly with his nose, as if approving your plan. If he could talk, he would have called you a smartass. Yes, definitely.
Once the dessert was finished and packed, you paused, staring into space. Was it silly? Maybe. Was it necessary? Absolutely. You stood up, clipped Ace’s leash, and got ready to leave. Night was slowly falling, but you felt ready for this small moment outside the house, just you and a stranger who had, in only a few minutes, earned your trust. The night wrapped Hawkins in a soft orange glow. Ace trotted beside you, the leash taut but calm, sniffing every corner of the path. Your mind started to ease, as if the world of Hawkins and all its tensions were being left behind; just for this brief, quiet moment.
Before leaving, you had taken the initiative to check a map to see where his house was. To your surprise, it wasn’t that far, and it was conveniently on your way. When you arrived, you were slightly taken aback by the “neighborhood”; a bunch of cramped trailers in a sad little lot. Approaching the small trailer, you gave a little smile. The place had something reassuring about it, even if it looked run-down. Not that you were going to tell him that, though. Then, without overthinking, you knocked on the door. Wayne opened it. His eyes landed on you, surprised, eyebrows slightly raised. “Oh… hey,” he said calmly. “Um, i made too much food… figured i’d have to stop by,” you said, feeling a little awkward, unsure why. He smiled. “Come in, kid. Make yourself at home.”
Now sitting on the couch, Ace sleeping at your feet, you looked around at the smallness of the “house.” Oh, he wasn’t lying. “I thought it was my nephew coming back from his club a little earlier! But guess what—I prefer it’s you. My brain’s frying over the stuff he tells me about his fantastical universe or whatever,” he chuckled, bringing out dessert plates and returning to serve slices of cake. You chuckled too, but your mind was elsewhere; you weren’t really paying attention to what he said.
You muttered a thank you as he handed you your plate, and you started eating in silence. You weren’t sure how to bring up your problem; it suddenly didn’t feel as important… this man had probably lived through far worse, so in comparison, it seemed trivial. “So, how’s school? You told me it’s your second week there, isn’t it?” Wayne broke the silence. You answered quicker and sharper than you’d expected. “It’s fine.” Just thinking about that cursed high school triggered something inside you.
Now you felt a little embarrassed to have spoken like that. “S-sorry, Wayne, it’s just… right now, everything’s complicated and—” “You want to spill your bag? Go ahead, I’m all ears. Besides, I’m used to it with my nephew; high school gives him a hard time too.” You looked him in the eyes, making sure he really meant it, and then you spilled your thoughts and the situation to him for about forty minutes straight.
Wayne didn’t interrupt you. Not once. He just leaned back against the arm of the couch, fork forgotten in his hand, nodding from time to time. Sometimes he hummed a small “yeah” or let out a quiet breath through his nose; the kind people do when they’re really listening. You talked about Mina, about Amanda, about how everyone seemed to have decided who you were without ever asking you. About how everything was just confusing in a way that made you think too much. When you finally stopped, your throat felt dry, and your head a little lighter, like you’d dropped a bag you’d been carrying for days.
Wayne scratched his mustache slowly, thinking. “Well,” he said at last, calm as ever, “sounds like you got caught in the middle of a story you didn’t write.” You frowned slightly, but he went on.
“People like their little boxes. Makes life easier for them. Pretty girl goes with cheerleaders. Weird kids go with weird kids. And when someone doesn’t fit…” He shrugged. “They get uncomfortable.” You stared at your plate, poking a crumb of cake with your fork. “I don’t want to choose,” you admitted quietly. “I don’t even want to be in any of that.”
He nodded. “Then don’t.” You looked up, surprised.
“I mean it,” he added. “You ain’t responsible for what they imagine about you. You just gotta decide who you want to be around. The rest… they’ll figure it out. Or they won’t.” It wasn’t some big speech. No miracle solution. Just… simple. And somehow, that made it hit harder. You let out a small breath you hadn’t realized you were holding. Ace shifted at your feet, stretching and bumping his head against your ankle. You absently scratched behind his ears, grounding yourself. “I think I hurt my friend,” you said after a moment. “Without meaning to.” Wayne tilted his head. “Then maybe she needs time. And maybe you need to show her you ain’t leaving. Doesn’t gotta be fancy. Just… be there.” You nodded slowly. That felt doable. Scary, but doable.
The conversation drifted after that. Lighter. Wayne talked a bit about his nephew, about how high school had been hell for him too, about how some kids just survived it instead of enjoying it. You listened, curled slightly into yourself, feeling less alone than you had in days. You maybe thought about how nice it would probably be to meet his nephew… not connecting the dots. You mean, In certain ways, you understood him, and he reminded you of someon-
The sound of the door opening didn’t faze Wayne, who kept talking. You, back to the door and with all your attention previously on Wayne, turned around; unprepared to see that all-too-familiar face.
Eddie. And for a long moment, you just stared at each other. Wayne stopped talking, his eyes flicking between you and his nephew, as if trying to guess what you were both thinking so he could stay out of it.
Eddie said your name.
And you said his.
“Eddie…?”
That was all that came out. His presence literally threw you off balance. Why was he here, exactly? Even Ace didn’t make a sound.
Eddie froze in the doorway. For half a second, his brain refused to process what he was seeing: you, sitting on his uncle’s couch, a plate in your hands, Ace at your feet, crumbs of cake on the table. In his house. In his living room. Sharing dessert with Wayne like this was the most normal thing in the world. What the hell.
Of all the places he had imagined you might be— at home, anywhere but school; this one hadn’t even crossed his mind. His thoughts tangled over each other. You hadn’t come to Hellfire. You hadn’t been at school. And now you were here, in the one place that was supposed to be… his. Wayne finally turned toward him, squinting. Then he looked at you, then at Eddie again, and something clicked. A slow, knowing smile pulled at his mouth. “Told ya,” he said casually. “I met a girl.”
Without insisting, he picked up the plates and motioned with his head toward the back of the trailer. He simply said that you should go talk somewhere quieter, that the living room wasn’t the right place for that. He let you walk ahead of him, deliberately discreet, as if giving you a little space.
Eddie told you to sit on his bed while he rearranged his room as best as he could. “Your uncle is a kind man,” you broke the silence. Eddie let out a light laugh. “Yeah, he kinda is.” Then he sat down beside you, looking at your face while your gaze stayed fixed on the floor. He still couldn’t really believe you were in his bedroom. You were definitely full of surprises, he guessed… He ran a hand through his hair before speaking again. “You weren’t there at Hellfire tonight, huh? And Mina told me you didn’t come to school. Is everything okay?”
You took a deep breath and turned to look at him. “Sorry about my absence at Hellfire, I–I just couldn’t come today. I needed to think and breathe, far from school.” “It’s fine, you can totally come to the next session,” he tried to reassure you, and you smiled at him. “Cool then.” Silence fell again, heavier than before. Your fingers played with the fabric of your sweater, tugging at it without you noticing. “People here like to decide things for you,” you suddenly let out, without looking at him. “Who you are. Who you should be with. Where you belong.” Eddie frowned slightly but didn’t interrupt. “And sometimes… it’s just easier to disappear for a day than to correct them,” you added more quietly. He stayed still for a moment, then shrugged gently. “Yeah… Hawkins is kinda great at that. Putting labels on people.” You nodded. No need to say more. He didn’t have the details, but he understood the main thing: it wasn’t about him. It wasn’t even really about Hellfire. It was just… too much all at once. Eddie turned his head slightly toward you.
“For what it’s worth… you don’t really have to fit anywhere here. Not with us, at least.”
This time, you really looked at him. And for the first time that day, the tension in your chest loosened a little. He stayed silent for a few seconds, then rubbed the back of his neck, clearly hesitating. “Also… I kinda thought you’d be there tonight.”
You raised your eyebrows slightly. “Not in a creepy way, okay,” he corrected himself quickly. “Just… you said you might come. And when you weren’t there, it was weird.” He stared at a spot on the wall, avoiding your eyes. “I mean, I figured you had your reasons, but… yeah. I worried a bit.” His confession hit you more than you expected.
You lowered your eyes, a small discreet smile at the corner of your lips. “You don’t have to worry about me,” you murmured. “I know,” he replied immediately. “I just… did anyway.” Another silence settled in, different from the previous one. Less heavy. More fragile. You breathed in softly. “I didn’t skip Hellfire because of you. Or them. Just… too much noise in my head.” Eddie nodded slowly.
“Yeah. I get that. Sometimes I hide in my trailer with my guitar and pretend the world doesn’t exist. Works… like, thirty minutes.” A small laugh escaped you despite yourself. “You can do that with us too, you know,” he added more softly. “Hide. Without having to explain everything.” You looked at him, surprised by the simplicity of his words. “You’re really bad at not being nice, Munson.” He grimaced. “Don’t tell anyone. I’ve got a reputation to maintain.”
And for the first time since the day before, you felt a little less alone in this town that was way too small.
A slightly strange silence fell between you. Not heavy. Just… awkward. Eddie tapped the edge of the mattress with his fingers, like he was trying to keep an invisible rhythm. “So, uh…” he blurted out, too loud. Then he cleared his throat. “Sorry. That was my attempt at being emotionally mature. I don’t do that often.” You gave a small smile. “I noticed.” He put a hand on his chest, fake-offended. “Wow. Brutal. I open up and you attack me.” You let out a small laugh, the first one in a while. And that seemed to reassure him, because he relaxed instantly. “At least you didn’t run away,” he added. “Most people do when I start talking about feelings. Or fictional monsters. Or both.” “I can handle fictional monsters,” you said. “Feelings… I don’t know.” He nodded seriously. “Fair. Feelings are scarier.” He moved a little too fast, and his elbow brushed your arm.
You both froze. “—Sorry.” “—Sorry.”
You spoke at the same time, then stopped at the same time. Silence. Then Eddie let out a nervous laugh. “This is… painfully awkward.” “Yeah. A little.” “Good. I was worried it was just me.” He stood up suddenly. “Okay, solution. I’m gonna get you a soda or something. Because standing is easier than… sitting like a statue next to you.” He took three steps toward the door, then turned back. “You want cherry or normal? Important question.” You answered. He squinted. “Bold choice. I respect that.”
He left, almost walking straight into the doorframe. You bit your lip to keep from laughing too loud.
When he came back, he held the can out like a trophy. “Here. Survival juice.” You took it. Your fingers brushed again.
Another micro-freeze. “…We really need to stop doing that,” he muttered. “Or get used to it,” you muttered without thinking. He looked at you, surprised. “Huh. Yeah. That too.” He sat back down, a little farther away this time. Too far. He noticed it too. “Okay, now it’s socially distant awkward. Even worse.” You moved slightly closer. “Better?” He nodded very seriously. “Much better. Scientifically speaking.” Then he added more softly, “I’m glad you came. Even if it was to thank my uncle and not for me.” You looked at him from the side.
“Don’t be jealous of your own uncle.” “I absolutely am. He’s stealing my guest and your dessert.”
You let out a genuine laugh at that.

𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 : On Saturday morning, while you were struggling with two massive bags of groceries, a kind man helped you out. The weekend flew by, leaving you with a complicated Monday. Just as you were beginning to grow closer to the outcasts, Amanda tried to pull you back in the opposite direction. Slightly tearing apart your friendships. The problem was simple : everyone in this town believed in a misunderstanding about you and your so-called popularity.
And you have to fix it.
𝗔/𝗡 : i have nothing to say, just read.
The next morning, the sun filtered through your bedroom curtains. You opened your eyes with that strange feeling of having dreamed… except it wasn’t a dream. Eddie had really been there, sitting on your floor, back against your bed, talking about forgotten gods, cursed temples, and about your character as if it were the most important thing in the world.
You spent the morning killing time. Music in your ears, notebook open on your bed, vague thoughts drifting. After your stomach growled, you decided to grab the leftovers in the fridge and make yourself a snack. Looking at the practically empty fridge, you decided to go to the little corner store nearby. It was also a chance to take Ace for a walk, always excited and demanding your attention. You grabbed a comfy outfit, sunglasses, and Ace, this time attached to a better leash. The more time pass by, the better the weather became. The sun warming your bare cheeks felt nice, even though you could still feel a slight winter chill in the air.
You tied Ace near the store before going inside. From time to time, you glanced down to check on him. The store was small and very quiet for a Saturday morning… in total, you must have crossed paths with at least five people, including the employee. When you left, you set your two enormous grocery bags on the ground, struggling with Ace, the leash, and the two massive bags. The scene was almost comical : a messy girl struggling with her small dog and her two bags, which seemed at least three times her size. The walk down the aisle had been peaceful, but the way back was going to be a challenge… at least it would give you some muscles—“Need some help?” The voice came from an older man, tall, with a mustache and a calm look. He was holding some beers under his arm.
“Uh… thanks, but I can manage.”
He insisted a little, seeing that he weren’t a threat, you let him grab one of the bags. “I live nearby.”
You walked side by side for a few minutes. “Thanks, sir,” you said, not really knowing what else to say to this sudden kindness from a stranger in Hawkins. He exhaled through his nose and replied, “The name’s Wayne.” He didn’t ask too many questions. Just the right ones. How long you’d been in Hawkins. If you liked the town. If you were in high school. You answered simply, and the conversation flowed naturally.
When you arrived at your house, he looked at the building and whistled softly. “Quite the place.” You laughed lightly, surprised by the comment. “Oh—uh, thanks, but it’s too big for just me and Ace. My dad’s on a military mission in Chicago, so it’s just us.” He nodded. “I have the opposite problem. Too small for two.” Suddenly feeling guilty about letting him leave without properly thanking him, you said, “Sir, do you want something to drink—uh, I honestly don’t know how to thank you.”
He turned to you. “Don’t worry, kid, there’s no need. You owe me nothing. Got it?”
“No, I really want to,” you insisted stubbornly. He exhaled, chuckled lightly at your persistence, looked up at the sky, and said, “Well, if one day you cook something in too big a quantity, my door’s open.” You nodded at his declaration. He wrote his address on a receipt, and you said goodbye on that note.
As soon as the door opened, Ace rushed into the living room, sniffing every corner as if he wanted to make sure everything was in its place. You dropped the bags on the floor and leaned against the table, watching your little companion trot around the room. He stopped to give you an expectant look, then curled up on the rug, tongue hanging out, clearly satisfied with his walk.
You sat down on the floor next to him, letting your fingers brush through his soft fur, and your thoughts wandered. Hawkins… this town, this high school, these people. Everything felt both ordinary and strange, almost unreal. Your mind drifted to the past few days, to Eddie. Just five days, and yet you remembered the van, his sarcasm, the way he talked about Dungeons & Dragons as if it were the most serious thing in the world. And you, watching him, realizing that he wasn’t some threatening freak; he was funny, passionate… surprisingly human.
Your recent encounter with Wayne made you conclude that people in small towns were a thousand times nicer than those in Paris. Oh man, in Paris people were ruthless; not that you were generalizing, but… it’s a fact, Parisians never have the time.
Your eyes drifted to Ace. He sniffed at the bags on the floor, then, with a clumsy leap, knocked over a box of cereal. You let out a small yelp, trying to catch the mess. “Ace!” you said, laughing despite yourself, the dog staring at you with that innocent look that made your heart melt. You bent down to pick up the box, chuckling as you saw a handful of cereal scattered across the rug. “You’re impossible,” you murmured, scratching him behind the ears, and he responded with a little satisfied grunt.
At noon, Wayne came into the trailer.
Eddie was slouched on the couch. “I ran into a girl today,” Wayne said, setting down his keys. “A girl? Wow. Social progress,” Eddie replied. Wayne ignored the jab. “Polite. French. And lives near the woods.” Eddie looked up. “Nice for you then. Hope she will still wants to come here after seeing the dump we live in.” Wayne chuckled. “Oh, I doubt she won’t.”
“If you say so…” Eddie muttered, not quite connecting the dots.
Sunday night, you felt a little down, realizing how fast the weekend had passed. It was unfair… Sitting on the floor of your room, Ace curled up beside you, you thought about why you felt so comfortable with Hawkins’ outcasts. With Eddie, and the other “freaks,” even with Mina; there was no need to pretend, no worrying about what anyone thought.
You’d never been the “popular girl” at school; back in Paris, you mostly floated through classes unnoticed. You had some friends, it was chill. But there had been a misunderstanding at Hawkins High; because of your image as a model, they had kind of… romanticized you, imagined a version of you that wasn’t really you. Yeah, definitely. Somehow, that made the weird, sarcastic, Dungeons & Dragons-obsessed Eddie Munson… easier to understand. Easier to watch. Easier to not immediately second-guess. Maybe it was the same instinct that had made you smile at Wayne : a simple appreciation for people who weren’t trying to perform for anyone, who weren’t showing off. People who were just… themselves.
Ace gave a little whine and nudged your hand, reminding you that the real world still existed. You scratched behind his ears, by letting your mind drift, not noticing the hours slipping by. Shit—I have to get my things ready for tomorrow, you muttered.
Your last thought before drifting off to sleep was that you were curious about what Hawkins might throw at you next. Hopefully, good things.
Monday morning came quickly, woken by your alarm rather than sunlight filtering through your window, unfortunately. You got ready slowly, still carrying the calm of the quiet weekend with you. Ace followed you around, tail wagging, as if he knew the week would be a little busier now.
By the time you reached Hawkins High, the hallways were already buzzing. Lockers clanged, sneakers squeaked against the linoleum, and voices echoed down the corridors. You moved along your familiar route to the classroom, your bag slightly heavier with books.
As you entered, your eyes caught a familiar figure at the back of the room. Eddie was already there, slouched in his chair, a pen twirling between his fingers, looking deeply bored. When he saw you, he raised an eyebrow slightly. An almost imperceptible gesture… but you saw it. You took a seat two rows ahead of him.
Throughout the lesson, you occasionally felt his gaze on you, as if he were trying to figure something out he hadn’t yet put into words. At the bell, he caught up with you in the hallway.
“Hey,” he said simply.
“Hey,” you replied, matching his tone.
A brief silence. Not awkward. Just… different. “So… still not sold on this unverse full of nonsense and magic?” “That depends,” you replied, a small smile tugging at your lips. “I’d say… intrigued, but not convinced yet.”
He gave a sarcastic smirk. “Intrigued, huh… I’ll take that as a compliment.” You walked side by side, barely a meter apart, the buzz of the high school around you. “Hellfire tomorrow,” he said casually, almost in passing. “If you feel like… checking it out again.”.
You glancing up at him. “I’ll think about it.”
“Think carefully,” he said, a sly, teasing smile on his face. “Shut up, Munson,” you replied, half serious, half amused; but deep down, you knew you’d go.
Parting ways with Eddie, you made your way to Mina by the lockers. Suddenly, you became aware of people passing by, casting quick glances. Not at Mina. But at you.
You could tell she noticed it too. She hugged her bag a little tighter. You understood that she felt out of place, stuck between two worlds that weren’t really hers. She talked about her next class. About how she thought she’d flunked her chemistry test. About a theater exercise for tonight. A normal conversation. Too normal. Like she wanted to prove that nothing had changed.
But something had changed. And you both knew it.
At lunch, you’d talk about it.
“So… about you and Jeff, how’s it going?” you tried to start a conversation while you ate, after a tense silence.
Mina didn’t bother to look up, replying simply, “He walked me home, and… it was fine.” You were about to say, how is it just fine?! He wants you, you want him—it’s not just fine. But she cut you off with a long sigh, now looking you in the eyes with an uneasy expression. “Do you… pity me? Or Eddie and the other freaks?” you wanted to respond, but she interrupted again.
“Listen… you—you don’t have to pretend, actually. I’m fine on my own—” She stood up and finished, “Please… just stay away from me, I can’t handle the pressure of their stares anymore,” and in an instant, she was gone.
What just happened?
You forced yourself to quickly finish your lunch before leaving, searching for a place to be alone. The library was a good option—quiet, rarely visited by most of the school. Then the bell rang, a sharp sound reminding you of your next class. You didn’t feel well, though, so instead of going, you hurried to the bathroom.
What a shitty day, you thought, head leaning over the toilet, the remains of your lunch now in the toilet. You sat on the bathroom floor, knees drawn to your chest, thinking of different ways to approach Mina without scaring her. Yup, this situation had been misinterpreted from the moment you arrived here. Closing the bathroom door, you didn’t pay attention to your surroundings; not noticing Chrissy at the sink nearby. Seeing that you hadn’t noticed her, she decided to speak, calling your name. “-good to see you again. Are you okay?”
You looked at her twice, now hyper-aware of your surroundings. She was a kind girl, you could just tell. In a moment of trust, you confessed, “Do you ever feel like you’re misunderstood, Chrissy?”
She looked at you with wide eyes, then lowered her gaze to answer, “I think… yeah, definitely. I—I never had the courage to speak up about it, but maybe in some circumstances it could’ve changed the way people see me… you know?” You nodded, agreeing. “Totally, I understand.” You smiled at her, not wanting to dwell on your own problems, even though her expression said she would’ve listened. You decided to leave, making sure to say goodbye.
You skipped class, not wanting to arrive mid-lecture and feel everyone’s eyes on you; even though you usually didn’t care. You never cared. But now, everything weighed on your conscience. You spent most of the day in silence, passing Dustin and Mike in the halls and greeting them. In your last class, you briefly talked with Amanda, but feeling awkward, you cut the conversation short.
This day made you realize how much could happen in such a short time. And you were determined to fix it.
On Tuesday, you started with P.E. Entering the locker room, you greeted the girls, and the class went on as usual; but a tension still lingered in the air. Being in the same class as Heather and Amanda didn’t make things easier. Towards the end of the lesson, Amanda called out to you from where she was sitting, still excused. She told you to sit down, took your hand in hers, hesitating before she started.
“Listen… some people here at Hawkins High are… not worth being around. I-I’m not telling you what to do, it’s just… I’m worried about you. The Hellfire is a satanic club! You can’t hang out with Eddie Munson of all people—” “Excuse me?” you said, your voice accidentally loud, drawing the attention of some students on the field. Amanda didn’t let you continue.
“Also, look at you. A pretty girl like you hiding behind the same books as the nerds—it’s not for you! Isn’t it? I promise you, Heather and I won’t bully Mina anymore—I swear. Just come back with us, with the cheer team! You could even join the club and—”
“Wow, Amanda. Stop.” You cut her off, still stunned by what she’d just said. “Stop bullying Mina? First of all, why do you bully her in the first place? She did nothing wrong. And no, I won’t join the cheer team—not that I can’t stand you; I mean yes, I can’t stand you, but the truth is I don’t want to be associated with all of you. You and the fuckass jocks who take some sick pleasure in feeling superior to everyone else; after graduation, no one will give a damn about you. So listen to me, Amanda, I don’t hate you, but this hierarchy in this high school sucks. Because just the fact that you saw my face once in Vogue doesn’t mean I’m popular everywhere. The only thing that makes me ‘popular’ is that all of you invented it in your heads, based on shitty magazines. I’ve never been popular back then, and I won’t be considered one here if it means putting down people you find weird.”
You shook off her grip and stood up. “I’m done with that, and I hope you fully understood the point I’m making.”

By the end of the day, you find yourselves at your place, sharing an unexpectedly deep conversation about D&D. Watching him nerd out makes you realize he has always been handsome; and what you don’t know is that he’s thinking the exact same thing about you.
𝗔/𝗡 : the tea is here guys, the start of the chapter may be a little repulsive but trust… here we have a lot of reader n Eddie interactions and more… anyway good lecture ;v .
Five years ago, everything started with Iona’s father. He scouted both of you for a birthday photoshoot for Vogue, just a small article at first. Back then, it felt unreal. You were kids, standing in front of cameras. It was easier to grow fast in that industry when you had contacts, and for a first experience, it was honestly fun. Mostly because you were with her. You weren’t alone. You were laughing between takes. Then came high school. Both of you moved to Paris; new country, new city, new opportunities. Even if you didn’t even have the same goal. Entering that prestigious school changed everything. Academic pressure was everywhere, and you had to focus on your studies, to prove you deserved to be there. But you didn’t want to stop modeling. You just didn’t want the spotlight the same way anymore. You preferred working with niche brands and smaller magazines, taking distance from the noise, from the expectations. It wasn’t that you had bad experiences at the top of the industry. It was more… a matter of conviction. You felt more yourself working with designers like Sonia Rykiel or Claude Montana. You went from fashion magazines like i-D, Égoïste, Façade or Seventeen to fantasy and RPG magazines. From couture to imaginary worlds. So yes… So yeah you had a pretty diverse career, and a little unpredictable.
On Iona’s seventeenth birthday, Vogue contacted both of you again. At first, it was only supposed to be a page. You had to bleach your hair for a 70s revival dress collection. You remember thinking it would just be just another shoot. But the director loved it; so much that she decided to put you on the front cover. That cover changed everything. Both of your faces traveled further than you ever did.
And somehow, it reached Gary Gygax, creative director of TSR Ltd.. For months, he had been searching for a new character for his next adventure volume. Idea after idea, nothing worked. No female villain felt right. So he looked for inspiration in magazines. Including the last issue of i-D. When he saw you again; the way you wore strange silhouettes, the way you looked like you belonged to another world, he knew. He had to come to Paris. He had to make you sign.
You were chosen to become the model for Veylith, a fallen elf who had devoted her life to a sleeping god, for the upcoming volume The Forgotten Temple of Tharizdun for Advanced Dungeons & Dragons.
It was by far your best model experience, maybe it was the fantasist context, the costum, and the fact that Gygax let you custom Veylith your own way; both of you design her and you were the one who made her alive. Her final design was audacious; pointed ears, long pink hair, layered outfit. magical swords.
“So, welcome to the Hellfire, my ladies.”
Eddie made a theatrical gesture with his hands, inviting you inside with a grin.
But let’s go further back, to understand why you were thinking about such a big part of your life.
As planned the day before, you and Mina spent the afternoon visiting the different clubs around Hawkins High.
You started with the art room, full of drawings and the smell of fresh paint. The people there were nice, but it didn’t really spark anything in you. The sports hall was crowded and loud. You didn’t feel like staying long, especially with the dirty looks from some popular girls and a few jocks. The science club was calmer. Too calm. Too serious. The computer club was… special. Some of the members looked at you like you were stupid when you admitted you didn’t know the basics of coding. As if the average human being did.
The sun, once high in the sky, slowly began to sink. After visiting most of the clubs, the verdict was simple. You were still uninterested.
Each club was… fine. Not bad. Not amazing either. None of them felt like something you truly wanted to join.
Mina, who had been holding your list all afternoon, seemed much more motivated than you. “I’m sure you’ll find something you like at the next one! And maybe today it doesn’t interest you, but who knows? Tomorrow you might have a revelation.” She was trying to cheer you up. Now, you were sitting on the cold linoleum floor of the hallway while Mina continued talking. You weren’t really listening anymore; until she said a name you recognized.
“Wait… what did you say?” You looked up at her, standing in front of you. “I said, weren’t you intrigued by the Hellfire Club? We can check on them if you want. Besides, it’s not like Eddie is a stranger, right? You get along well, don’t you?” You sighed. “Yeah, you’re right. But I highly doubt I’m going to join them anyway.” Mina gave you a neutral look, then crouched in front of you, tilting her head. Her straight black hair fell to the side. “Well, if we don’t try, we can’t know. So come on, let me lead the way.” You smiled and stood up. “You’re right. Let’s see them.”
Mina stopped in front of a very familiar door. “The drama room?” you whispered, afraid your presence would be noticed through the open door, only hidden by a curtain that didn’t reach the floor. “Yep. We share the same place, just not on the same days.” You were about to step inside when Mina suddenly whispered, “Oh wait, i forgot to take Clay’s script. I’ll grab it from my locker, I’ll be right back.”
You nodded, knowing it wouldn’t take long since the lockers were in the same hallway. You leaned against the wall, your head tilted back, staring at the ceiling. Then you closed your eyes. You were barely lost in your thoughts when you heard something roll on the floor, followed by a curse.
You opened your eyes and looked left. Then right. No one knew. Then you looked down. Near your foot, there was a dice.
Without thinking too much, you bent down and picked it up, holding it between your fingers. A twenty-faced die. Red and black. Scratched. Worn. Clearly used a lot. You heard Mina walking back behind you…
but you didn’t notice Eddie Munson standing in front of you now.
You stayed there for a second, the dice still in your hand. Eddie leaned casually against the door frame, arms crossed, watching you examine the dice. His grin was easy, not threatening; just the way he always looked like he knew exactly what he was doing. “Well, i see you’ve already found one of our most important artifacts,” he said, nodding at the twenty-sided die. “Don’t worry, it won’t bite… unless you roll a natural one.” You raised an eyebrow “Important, huh? Looks like it’s been through a war or two.”
“Exactly,” he agreed. “Or maybe it’s just survived high school nerds rolling natural ones for years.” You smirked despite yourself, shaking the die gently. “Guess it’s lucky it ended up here, then.” Footsteps approached. Mina returned, clutching her script, still a little awkward, barely glancing at Eddie. “Script for Clay… safe,” she muttered, then nudged you for you to continue the conversation.
“So… what do we actually do at the Hellfire?” you asked, raising your eyebrow again next time expecting nothing. Eddie leaned casually against the doorframe, a smirk tugging at his lips. “Oh we do a lot of things here. Roll some dice, fight a few monsters, maybe save a world, or totally fail. Nothing too crazy.” He squinted at you, amusement in his eyes. “Though, i gotta say, i seriously doubt someone like you even knows what a fantastical universe is, or that role-playing and Dungeons & Dragons exist… you know, considering the whole ‘popular model’ thing.” he said the end jokingly.
Dungeons & Dragons… like, Dungeons & Dragons, the same RPG where a character literally has your face? You didn’t just know the game; you knew the creator of the entire universe and even had his number in your contacts, just in case you wanted to sign another contract or casually play a new campaign; even though your not a big fan of. So, you choose not to say anything for now. You met his gaze calmly, deciding to keep some things to yourself. “I know the game,” you said simply.
For a moment, Eddie’s smirk froze. His eyes darted between you and Mina, then back again, clearly shocked. “You—you know D&D? Wait… that’s not possible… how is this even—”
You glanced at the floor for a second, then back at him, unbothered. “I just know.”
A brief silence hung in the air, tense for a second, before it was broken by Gareth’s voice from inside the drama room. “Eddie, you lost your way or what? C’mon, we don’t have all day.” Eddie tilted his head, still a little dazed, then waved at you both. “So… welcome to the Hellfire, my ladies,” he said, motioning you forward with a casual, teasing grin.
Mina stepped lightly beside you, script tucked under her arm, and you both followed him into the room, curiosity piqued despite the sarcasm lingering in the air. Before you could fully take in the room, one of the club members; a black guy with a Hellfire club shirt and a stack of character sheets, looked up from the table and waved at Mina. “Hey, Mina! cool to see you, you finally bringing a friend?” he called, smiling. Mina froze for a second, a small blush rising to her cheeks, then gave a timid wave. “Uh… hi,” she said softly, suddently shy. Eddie, leaning just behind you, watched the exchange with a raised eyebrow and a smirk. “See? Not scary. Just a bunch of nerds,” he murmured sarcastically in your ears, glancing at your reaction.
You rolled your eyes, a small smile tugging at your lips, and took a cautious step further into the room, following Mina.
After everyone introduced themselves, they turned to you and Mina, explaining the game as if you were newborns discovering the world for the first time. Dice, maps, character sheets… everything was described in painstaking detail, their voices a mix of enthusiasm and amusement. Once the basics were covered, they went back to playing, immersed in their own little universe.
You sat beside Eddie, Mina a little closer to Jeff, watching them all in their element. Occasionally, you could feel Eddie’s gaze on you. Sometimes you met it, giving him a sly little smile, and sometimes you pretended to not see it. It was strange but fun, watching them live out the adventure like it was real; both hilarious and oddly captivating. The so-called “freaks” of Hawkins High were just a bunch of nerds craving a little adventure, completely harmless. Somehow, they seemed way more fun than the Hawkins royalty.
Night had fallen. Jeff offered to drive Mina home, and she accepted. They left first, but not before she placed Clay’s script in a corner of the room. You figured you would have to walk home by yourself. Not that it really bothered you; as long as you had your Walkman, a good mixtape, and your beloved Swiss Army knife, you were fine. Dustin and Mike had just left too, after spotting their ride in the parking lot; none other than the one and only Steve “Hair” Hairrington.
Now you were alone with Eddie, helping him tidy up the room in a calm, comfortable silence. “So… anyone picking you up tonight?” Eddie asked, not looking at you. “I was supposed to walk with Mina, but she had other plans,” you said. Both of you snorted softly before you added, “So no, I’m just gonna walk home.” Eddie frowned and turned toward you, saying your name. “You can’t—are you even aware of the weird stuff happening in this shitty town? I can give you a ride. Seriously.”
You laughed. “C’mon, a few disappearances from three or four years ago aren’t gonna scare me. But… if you insist, I don’t mind either. It’ll save me a three-kilometer walk in these cold temperature.”
Eddie finished packing his things, and you both headed for the exit. “Good,” he said casually, “’cause I was gonna kidnap you this time.”
“Oh—what did you just say?” you exclaimed, startled.
Then you both burst out laughing. He opened the passenger door and let you climb in.
He started the van, and drove straight toward your place. Once again, a peaceful silence settled between you, broken only by the sound of the radio. Eddie was the one to interrupt it. “So… you gonna tell me what’s up with you?” he said. “A very pretty and popular model who knows about the nerdiest game ever, Dungeons & Dragons?” He narrowed his eyes at you for a second, then focused back on the road.
You huffed. “Well… about my modeling career. I didn’t always pose for big popular brands or anything like that,” you said, and when he grinned, you continued, “Let’s just say I know D&D because I had a contract with TSR.” Eddie’s breath hitched. “What—how?! Like… how is that even possible?” He looked at you with such a shocked expression that you laughed before answering. “Gary Gygax literally flew to Paris just to sign a contract with me for his next volume. For the… uh, I think the name was The Forgotten Temple of Tharidun.”
“Tharizdun,” he corrected automatically. “The Forgotten Temple of Tharizdun.” He didn’t know how to react. It wasn’t anything he could’ve imagined. What were the odds? You, literally the first model to pose for Dungeons & Dragons; ending up in Hawkins of all places?
“Unbelievable,” he muttered.
“And yet, it’s true. I swear,” you said, placing a hand over your heart. Silence returned, but this time, you broke it. “Do… do you want to see the pictures?” you asked shyly. “Or… whatever I did when I worked with them?” You didn’t really know why you suddenly felt like that. Maybe it was because you were sitting next to a handsome D&D nerd.
“Uh—sure! Yeah, totally,” he said, clearing his throat. “I mean… that kinda means you probably know more about my favorite game than I do.” He gave you a sly smile.
You shrugged, smiling back.
“Probably.”
Eddie parked his creepy van not far from your house, and you both got out. Before opening the door, you turned to him. “Careful,” you said seriously. “There’s a dangerous beast inside who won’t hesitate to bite you if you’re carrying any drugs.”
You were joking.
“Oh, right. I forgot about your damn dog,” he muttered. “I don’t care—as long as I’m with you, I won’t complain.”
You laughed and opened the door.
Just like you expected, Ace rushed toward you. You quickly picked him up before he could notice Eddie. But as soon as he did, he started barking. This damn dog, Eddie thought again.
He looked around your house as you led him to your room. He couldn’t help commenting, “Wow… that’s a house. Probably six or seven times bigger than mine.” “I’m not complaining,” you said, “but for now it’s just me and Ace here, so most of the time it doesn’t really feel like home. You know… it’s too big and too empty.”
Eddie nodded, but thought differently. He couldn’t really relate, with his tiny trailer barely fitting him and Wayne.
How ironic.
You told Eddie to wait and make himself comfortable while you took Ace down to the basement. Left alone, he looked around your room and saw something no one at Hawkins High ever did. Here, in your room, was the real you. Eddie noticed things he never would have expected you to like. His opinion of you had been shaped by stupid clichés. If he had seen you as a cliché… then what did you see him as? He hoped it was something good.
When you came back, you started digging through your things to find what you wanted to show him. You both sat on the floor, backs against your bed, going through photoshoots, behind-the-scenes pictures, and sketches. You told him little anecdotes, and he explained in detail why your character was designed that way, drifting into the game’s lore without even realizing it.
You really looked at him then, wondering how you hadn’t noticed before how attractive he was. Especially when he talked like that; Eddie was ten times hotter than usual. What you didn’t know was that he thought the same about you. To him, you were ten times more stunning dressed as the she-elf.
You were already perfect; but as Veylith, you embraced every part of yourself.
that night he fell 10 time harder, so has you.

𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 : After a misunderstanding, you ended up getting along with Hawkins’ town freak. The popular duo tried to pull you away from Mina, but failed miserably. For the first time, you were introduced to a club, and it made you want to explore more. As if you really had a choice.
𝗔/𝗡 : hey so i literally had to rewrite this shi because tumblr delete my draft so this might have some mistakes… anyway here is the part 3! i had more fun writing this one, and i feel like it’s easier to read; more digestible, i guess?
You quickly pulled your beloved Swiss knife out of your bag and stepped in front of Mina. You started on guard “You.Again. Speak fast, what do you want from us?” The man, now out of his vehicle, raised his hands to show he wasn’t a threat. “Hey—hey, calm down, I’m not gonna do anything—I just want to talk—” “I don’t care. Go away from us,” you continued sharply. “No—not like that, please—”
He said your name and you immediately pulled out your blade. The sound startled both Mina and the man. Mina tried to calm the situation, calling out to you : “He—he’s not dangerous. I may have bad eyesight, but i recognize Eddie. It’s someone from our school, weird but totally harmless,” she tried to convince you.
Eddie gave you a nervous smile.
“See? No danger.”
He didn’t personally know all the nerds of Hawkins High, especially not girls, but he recognized Mina from her face. You were judging whether he really was a danger or not when someone made their presence known; “Mina, my dear! Did you see the time? It’s 5:40 PM—your cello teacher has been waiting for you for ten minutes!” You immediately understood it was Mina’s mom. Mina was forced to leave, but not before offering for you to come with her if you didn’t want to stay with Eddie. You gently refused, explaining it wasn’t necessary and that you could handle the situation.
After all, if he tried anything, you could take him down with the little hand-to-hand combat training your father had taught you…
It’s gonna be okay.
Mina left, leaving you alone with Eddie. He spoke again quickly : “As the nice girl said earlier, we’re in the same high school, and I know you… because one of my friends is in the same class as you—” He stopped to observe you and continued, “Gareth? From P.E. class, remember?” You sighed, understanding now, and decided he wasn’t a threat. You put your Swiss knife away. “Yeah… now I see. What do you want now?”
Eddie felt the tension drop between you, so he tried “Uh… do you want a ride? So i can explain—of course i won’t try anything, you know, it’s—” “Sure. Let’s end this quickly.” You didn’t let him finish and got in. You told him your address, and he started driving. Only the sound of the radio and the engine broke the silence.
“So, about yesterday…” Eddie started. You replied, “About my dog or your deal with the drugged guy?” Eddie shrugged. “No—yeah, my thing with Rick… about that, uh… can you please not report us? Like… to the police.”
You looked at him while his eyes stayed on the road. “Oh. So that’s it?” You laughed lightly and continued, “I don’t care. Do what you want. That’s not my business.”
He exhaled in relief and glanced at you. “Thanks… that—that’s nice.” “No problem.” You hesitated before adding, “…So you do that to make money?” “Yeah, kind of. And sometimes it helps me and my uncle to pay the bills. You know…” “Yeah, totally,” you replied, though it wasn’t what you truly thought. With your father’s job, you had never known what end-of-the-month problems felt like… but you nodded anyway, out of pity for him.
“You know,” Eddie said, eyes still on the road, “most people don’t pull out a knife on me on a first meeting.” You crossed your arms. “You stopped in a dark street with a creepy van.” “Creepy van?” he repeated, offended. “She’s not creepy; she has history.” “Yeah, criminal history, you scared us.”
“You almost stabbed me back there.”
“I used to live in France. We’re dramatic.” You joke, he glanced at you; smirking. “Wow. Cultural shock. Noted.”
You held back a laugh at his response. Your house came into view, and he parked in front. You grabbed your bag and opened the car door. “Thanks for the ride, and… see you tomorrow at school, Eddie.” “Yeah, no problem; oh and trust me, you don’t want to be near me. See you tomorrow. He offered you a smile, and you returned it, not wanting to drag the conversation any further. Why wouldn’t you want to be near him? Whatever. You let it go.
Eddie watched you walking toward your house, the streetlights casting long shadows across the asphalt. You are…actually really nice. Not at all like he expected; a popular model, probably pretentious, showing off. But you weren’t. You made him feel normal. Not like the town freak. He shook his head, trying to focus on the road. Just a ride. Nothing else. But yeah… he’ll see you tomorrow.
The sound of the radio coming from the alarm clock woke Eddie. Eyes still closed, he wasn’t ready to get up for class. “It’s twelve o’clock, good afternoon Hawkins!”
Oh shit. He really had to go.
He rushed to get dressed, brushed his teeth, and lit a cigarette. In less than ten minutes, he was driving his van at 90 kilometers per hour on a 40-kilometer-per-hour road. Arriving at the school, he didn’t bother to park properly and rushed straight toward his last class before lunch.
Eddie skidded into the classroom, drawing a few stares.
“Nice of you to join us, Munson,” one of his classmates called sarcastically from the back. Eddie shot him a quick smirk, unbothered. Classic. Always gotta comment on my timing.
He ignored them, eyes scanning for an open seat. The room was mostly full, and the teacher was already mid-lecture, waving notes and trying to keep everyone focused. Eddie’s gaze landed at the very back. To his surprise he saw you. He made his way over, slipping into the seat with as little noise as possible. Eddie leaned back, giving you a small, almost imperceptible grin. You glanced up, surprised for a moment, then returned to your paper. " Good afternoon Eddie" you said sarcastically at him, and he sat next to you; " oh don't start" “Why? don’t your heard you alarm this morning?” you joked, he looked at you, deadpan : "guess what, you are 100 % correct." you give him a surprise glance trying not to laugh at his face "wait, really?? guess your not a morning person"
"no, definitly not."
The bell rang sharply after your interaction, both of you heading toward your lockers in the same row. Eddie tossed his class notebook into his locker to swap it with a magazine. He heard you talking from a distance, so he glanced over his shoulder and saw you chatting with Mina; the girl with the oval glasses, methodically putting away her things, unlike him. Then he heard multiple voices cut into your conversation with Mina. Oh, Amanda and Nicole. They called your name before stepping into your personal space for whatever reason.
“-And by the way, come with us again this lunch. Something happened between Andy and the girl he dated, you can’t miss that!” Nicole said, her hand gripping your arm as if to force you to follow them. Eddie watched the scene from his locker, observing your reaction. “Yeah, today i thought i could eat with Mina, i—” Amanda shrugged. “But who cares? I’m pretty sure she has other friends, right?” She shot her a dark look, silently telling her to drop the idea of eating with you.
You didn’t let Mina fall victim to Amanda’s pressure and spoke up. “Actually, i decided it with Mina. So that’s how it’s going to be. Listen, i enjoy both of your company, but i’m gonna eat with her.” Nicole pulled her hand off your arm, and the two girls stepped back. “Oh… okay. If you wish. Then we’ll see you later,” Nicole said coldly, giving Mina a long look. She seemed to be wondering why you preferred to eat with this ‘useless bookworm’ rather than with her and the group like yesterday.
The two of them left as quickly as they had arrived.
You and Mina left your lockers shortly after and headed toward the cafeteria.
“Wow, what a conversation,” Eddie said to himself, closing his locker and heading in the same direction. He quickly joined his usual table. Jeff and Doug were already there, talking about who knows what. They noticed Eddie arriving, and the three of them chatted for a while before Doug looked up, scanning the cafeteria; and spotted you and Mina alone at a table, laughing and talking. He remarked, “So now Miss Model decided to hang out with a nerd? What a surprise.” Jeff followed his gaze. “Wohoo, so it’s her. Well, i wouldn’t mind welcoming her here… if it’s just to admire her up close.” The three of them chuckled lightly and continued their discussion about their next band practice.
Eddie chose not to comment on you and him since Tuesday night.
Mina and you were enjoying your home-cooked meals; you had a saucisson-beurre sandwich, and Mina had spring rolls. You exchanged bites of each other’s food to discover a bit of each other’s cultures while talking.
“How about after our last lesson you come with me to the theater club? Could be nice to see,” Mina proposed. “Sure, why not. This time I won’t ditch you,” you replied. She gave a sly smile. “Oh, i hope not again. If you do, you’ll have to walk five kilometers—” “Three! It was three kilometers!” you interrupted, laughing.
“Oh, whatever,” she shrugged.
The last class with Mr. Parker was, in fact, really boring. It was your first time with him, and you could feel your eyelids drooping with boredom. Mathematics wasn’t your thing, and you had already covered this program in the previous years at your old school… completely useless.
You and Mina walked through the half-empty corridors; everyone else was at their clubs. Together, you headed toward the drama class.
You and Mina approached the theater room, the faint sound of footsteps and muffled voices coming from inside. The door was slightly ajar, and a few students were already gathered, arranging props and chatting. The smell of old wood and stage paint hit you as soon as you stepped in. Mina nudged you gently. “Don’t worry, it’s just a club. Everyone’s pretty chill here.”
You nodded unsure what to expect, you’ve never been part of a club before. Scanning the room. Some were stretching, others were rehearsing lines softly under their breath. A boy with a script in hand looked up and gave you a polite nod; a girl practicing a monologue glanced over and smiled faintly. Mina led you to a small empty corner near the stage. “Here, you can sit. Don’t worry about joining anything yet; just watch.”
You settled down, feeling the strange mix of curiosity and calm that came from being in a place so different from the noisy halls of Hawkins High.
The boy with the script glanced at you again and walked over. “Hey, you’re new, right? Mina told me you might come by. I’m Clay.” You nodded, a little hesitant. “Yeah… first time in a drama club. Nice to meet you.” He smirked slightly, holding up his script. “Cool. Don’t worry, we’re not all crazy. Well… not too crazy. Anyway, we’re just rehearsing a scene. Want to give us your impression after a bit?” “Sure,” you said, settling a little closer.
You watched as Clay and a few others ran through their scene. Lines were repeated, laughter filling the small room when someone flubbed a line. Occasionally, they glanced at you, pointing to a moment in the scene. You observed, letting the rehearsal unfold around you. The gestures, the timing, the occasional flubbed lines; it all passed by like a silent rhythm.
It wasn’t just about participating. You were just happy to be here, sitting beside Mina, seeing her in her element. That alone made the time worthwhile.
At the end, everyone started to leave, the few remaining putting away the props. “I think you might have a talent for drama,” Clay said to you, annotating his script. “You really think that, or… is it to convince me to join?” you asked, smiling. Clay looked up from his notes and met your gaze. “A mix of both, if I’m honest.”
“I thought so,” you said.
Mina came over to you two. “Hey, i’d love for her to come here with us too, but it’s her first time joining a club, so she needs to get to know the others before making her own choice, right?” “Absolutely. I won’t fall for your theatrical propaganda, Clay.” you said with a sly smile.
“Too bad,” he replied. “Anyway, our door is always open.”
After that, Mina invited you to her place to work on schoolwork and check out the list of other clubs at Hawkins High. Now both of you were in her room, sitting on her bed; you had been staring at the list of clubs for a long time while Mina worked on her English. Everything was surrounded by a peaceful calm, and from afar you could hear her mother’s music playing in the living room. A little while earlier, Mina’s mom had come by to give both of you some sliced apples; she said it was to give you strength while working.
You huffed, detaching your gaze from the list and resting your head on your hand, staring into space. Mina heard you and spoke without looking up. “Any clubs that interest you?” “Huh… nope, not really,” you continued. “I mean, they all seem pretty nice, it’s just… I don’t feel like joining a club. That’s not my thing.” “Then don’t join any of them. It’s not like you’re forced or anything. And you know, you’re always welcome in my club,” she said, now looking at you.
“Well… you’re gonna laugh, but I’m definitely being forced against my will to join one,” you admitted. Mina frowned at your comment. “How so?”
“My father and Higgins made it pretty clear that i had to join a club because, supposedly, i’d be better integrated AND it would be good for the school’s reputation that a foreign girl chose one… so yeah, i’m definitely forced.” Mina put down her pencil and closed her notebook to focus on you. She placed her hands on your shoulders and looked into your eyes. “Don’t worry. Tomorrow we can visit the open clubs. On Fridays most of them are open, so it’s the perfect chance. Maybe make a list of the ones you want to check out, and i’ll come with you!”
“It’s an amazing idea, Mina. Have you ever been told that you’re a smartass?” you said without thinking. She looked everywhere but your eyes and blushed. “Wow… I wouldn’t go that far—but thanks.” You both smiled at each other.
You got back to your separate tasks; you choosing which clubs to visit, and Mina working on her own stuff, still with slightly red cheeks from your sudden compliment, trying to focus. “Hey Mina, I have a question,” you asked without looking at her, intrigued by the name of one of the clubs. “Sure, what?”
“What is the Hell—Hellfire? It’s the only one with a weird name.” “Oh, the Hellfire Club. Well, i don’t know them personally, but i heard they kind of play games. Also, we already met the owner.” You narrowed your eyes, thinking about who it could be.
“Huh… no? Well, no one mentioned—” Mina cut you off, exclaiming, “But yes, you remember!” She looked at you as if it were obvious. Seeing that you still didn’t catch on, she added, “The one who you thought was going to kidnap us last night.”
A pause. “Wait… Eddie Munson?” you said, unsure. “Yes! It’s him!”
“I would’ve never guessed…”
“Then maybe you should try my glasses.” “HEY—what are you trying to say?!” you responded, pretending to be angry.
Mina laughed.

𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁 : 3,0k (wtf)
𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 : Hawkins High, mention of bullying, mention of drugs, swearing
𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 : Your first morning at Hawkins High wasn’t that bad, thanks to meeting so many completely different people. At the end of the day, you were supposed to meet your new friend at the library, but the Hawkins High’s royalty made you waste your time. So you found yourself walking all across Hawkins, desperate to find her. Between apologies and sharing milkshakes, you thought this long, exhausting day was finally over… until you encountered that damn van again.
𝗔/𝗡 : Here’s the second part! Again, it took me the entire day to write this… The story might feel like it’s moving slowly, but i need to do a bit of world-building first… i honestly do not follow any plan so i write whatever’s come to my mind lol.
The alarm hadn’t even gone off yet, and you were already awake. You tell yourself it’s because you’re nervous about the day ahead, but really, it’s Ace demanding your attention from the very first hours. After getting up and zoning out for thirty minutes, staring at your overflowing closet while questioning all your life choices so far, you choose a casual outfit. It’s the first time in a long while that you pick your clothes for school entirely on your own. You think passively.
It’s true, the past three years at the Légion d’Honneur high school forced you to wear a uniform, maybe in the name of equality but it was an elite school attended by ultra-rich kids, so you conclude it was more about giving a prestigious image. Whatever, you do not belong there anymore.
You’re not feeling hungry, probably because of the pit in your stomach. Ace, on the other hand, is always starving and jumps on his bowl the second you feed him. Then, you sit on the floor of your room to pack your bag. If you were in the mood and totally not stressed you would’ve put on some music, probably the songs that remind you of your time in Paris.
Small pencil case, notebook, pocket mirror, makeup. Swiss Army knife.
The bare minimum to survive high school.
With that, you head out on foot. The walk isn’t particularly long, but still long enough to make you daydream about the social categories at Hawkins High. It’s probably like everywhere else: a hierarchy rooted in popularity and reputation… your expectations are, at best, low. At least your neighbors are decent people, a couple in their sixties who kindly agreed to look after your puppy while you’re away.
The high school came into view, but you were so caught up in your own thoughts that, before you even realized it, you were standing in front of the principal office. Clutching your bag, you knocked at the door.
"You may come," a strict, old voice said. When you first opened the door, the principal had a stern look—eyes ready to intimidate and a tightly drawn face. He was probably expecting another visitor, you guess. But as soon as you appeared, his expression softened, shifting to a more welcoming mood. "Ah! Our new foreign student! Welcome, and please take a seat." The office felt slightly familiar, since you had been there during winter break with your father to register and scout the layout of the school. A visit that had been mostly useless, as you’d long forgotten the details.
After about fifteen minutes of discussion, Principal Higgins led you to your first class. On Tuesday, you start with P.E. . The walk to the gym was short but heavy… Higgins was yelling in your ears about all the athletic achievements of Hawkins High as if you were interested. Well, you were sure he was trying not only to make the school look good, but also the students (mostly athletes), probably to hide a messier side of Hawkins High. "Over there, miss, you can see how strong and unbeatable our basketball team is! For years now, we’ve been in the top five—" Higgins gestured wildly, as if trying to impress some unseen audience. This conversation wasn’t interesting at all. You were just eager to get to P.E., which was surprising, considering you’d never really been a sporty girl.
Again, lost in your thoughts, you didn’t remember the end of the walk to the entrance of the indoor sports court, already filled with students playing basketball. All heads turned when Higgins raised his booming voice to get the attention of what would be your P.E. class. "Class, i brought with me your new student from Paris! Isn’t that incredible?" He grabbed your shoulders from behind, shaking you and continued in his loud, theatrical voice: "i hope you will welcome her properly." With that, he left. After a brief moment, you decided to speak, unsure who to address first.
"Hello—" "Miss, it’s an honor to have you in my first class. I’m Mr. Bronn, and I’ll do my best to make everything i say understandable for you." Mr. Bronn really thought you were monolingual or something? He spoke slowly, enunciating every word, looking at you as if you wouldn’t be able to understand. Dumb American.
"Yeah—ah, no worries, sir, i’ll understand you just fine. Please don’t change for me." The moment he heard you speak, he understood immediately and stopped acting ridiculous. "Perfect then… I guess you don’t have any gym clothes, do you?" "No—" "Sir, i can lend her my gym clothes, since i’m excused." A Black girl sitting on the bench intervened. "Sure, Amanda, good initiative." Mr. Bronn turned to you and gestured toward Amanda for you to join her. "Problem solved, Amanda saves you today. For the next class, don’t forget to bring your things." You gave him a forced smile and walked over to Amanda, now standing.
"Hi! You’re lucky i can’t do P.E., so i can lend you my stuff. Mr. Bronn isn’t usually this kind. Anyway, nice to meet you—i’m Amanda!" "Likewise Amanda, i guess you’re my savior… So, what do you usually do in P.E.?" Your first impression of her were that she’s spontaneous and charismatic. She had straight, shoulder-length hair tied with a dark purple bandana that framed her oval face, matching her pencil skirt.
"Oh, right. As you can see, it’s basketball. Honestly, that not my favorite at all. I just hope i’ll be able to do P.E. when we have aerobics. Oh—and we’ll also do gymnastics, and to finish, if i remember correctly, dodgeball." The door closed behind you as you two entered the locker room. "Here, this is for you." She handed you her cheerleading outfit. "Wow, thanks—" you said, to which she responded sarcastically, laughing lightly at your reaction. "What? What’s with that reaction? You don’t like my cheer uniform?" She smiled slyly. "No-no, it’s perfect, totally! i just forgot that cheer was a thing here." "Pfft, no problem, i was kidding."
You chatted for a bit while changing and then returned to the court to join your class. The lesson went well. Some of the students even socialized with you, and you realized they were part of the popular crowd; Amanda included.
As you were heading to your next class, someone called out: "Hey, meet us at the cafeteria! You better come!" Heather, you remembered her name. she smiled at you. You replied with a grin: "I won’t miss it!"
The morning surprisingly went by fast. Between English and music class, you had time to observe the new faces and to get closer to a girl named Mina. A sixteen-year-old Asian girl with black hair, a pair of oval blue glasses, and a porcelain-doll complexion. She totally had the look of a bookworm nerd, but that didn’t bother you at all. On the contrary, you were happy to socialize with an average girl. You weren’t popular back then either, so it felt comforting.
“Fame is such an amazing musical comedy. You should read the book, it’s so good even if you don’t like musicals! Oh, that makes me think—we should go to the library later, what do you think? They have a really big selection of books.” Mina said. You and Mina were walking toward your lockers, which by pure coincidence were facing each other, only separated by the aisle. “Well, after all our classes I’m free, so why not, Mina. But shouldn’t we go to the cafeteria now?” you said, closing your locker. “Totally, i’m sooo hungry right now. This morning was endless…” “Really?” you continued with a grin. “I was thinking the opposite.” She looked at you with a surprised expression, then laughed, and you followed. “Yeah, because it’s your first time here. But trust me, after a few weeks, you’ll get bored pretty fast… you get used to this place quickly.”
“Oh, I don’t doubt that.”
You were heading to the cafeteria when you heard a familiar voice calling your name: ”—Are you coming or what? Come on, we’ve got a free seat for you!” Heather was the one who called you. Sitting at her table were people from your P.E. class, including Amanda, and a few others you didn’t recognize. Mina stopped too, standing next to you, watching them with an unreadable expression. “Oh—uh, Heather invited me to her table. I’m gonna go… so, see you at the library entrance later?” you said quickly. Before you could even finish, Amanda called you over too. You walked toward them, giving Mina an apologetic smile, leaving her behind against your will.
You couldn’t take her with you. There was no way the popular crowd would hang out with her without judging her. You told yourself you’d see her later, so it wasn’t a big deal. Lunch was chaotic; tons of questions about you, comments about students walking past the table, and laughter that wasn’t exactly kind.
You met the school’s golden couple: Chrissy and Jason. Both seemed nice at first glance, especially Chrissy. You also met Nicole, a strawberry-blonde girl with piercing dark blue eyes, flirting with a boy called Lucas. He looked a little uncomfortable, you thought.; Then Andy and another dude named Scott reminded you of a former classmate who had been an asshole. Hopefully, he wouldn’t be like that one.
All the members of the Hellfire Club were sitting at their table in the cafeteria. Everyone except Lucas, which had been happening more and more since he joined the basketball team. He was spending a lot more time with the popular crowd. From the outside, it looked like he actually enjoyed their company. Even that strawberry-blonde girl who kept flirting with him while he was still technically with Max. It was weird… kind of twisted.
Eddie was the first to bring it up. “Wow… Sinclair’s actually hanging out with the jocks now? Must be leveling up his social skills.”
Mike frowned and glanced at Dustin, who was sitting across from him.“Uh, i agree. It’s happening more frequently now, and he seems to accept Nicole’s flirty words, not like he’s still with Max—” “Let’s not jump to conclusions now. Lucas always expresses his desire to fit in in some way, and—and this Nicole… we don’t even know her intentions so—” Mike narrowed his eyes, giving Dustin a look that said, “Are you trying to excuse him?” Dustin tried to calm things down. “Oh—okay. I don’t mean it like that. What i meant is i don’t think he’s doing it on purpose. Nicole’s flirting is maybe—MAYBE—just a trick. Who knows? No one here could say otherwise.”
Jeff sighed. “In time, he’ll have to choose. It can’t continue like this, man. I don’t know why he wants their recognition so much… for me, i’ve always been an outcast and i’ll always be one.” “Exactly, Jeff.” Doug and Gareth nodded in agreement. Jeff’s attempt to cool things down hadn’t really worked. The weight of the previous conversation still lingered.
A long pause followed between Dustin, Mike, and Eddie. No one said anything. Speaking of Eddie, in an attempt to really see where Lucas was, he noticed a very familiar face hidden behind Amanda and Andy sitting at the table. No, it can’t be.
The girl who owns the fucking drug-detecting puppy.
And she’s also the new student.
The one. With. A. Million. Names.
How had he not noticed yesterday that? first of all she was the new girl in town, and second of all she was fucking gorgeous?.
Well, it was kind of a lie…he definitely thought about her on the way back home. BUT he assumed she would probably snitch on him and Rick for their illegal activity. Even if it wouldn’t be the first time, the consequences were heavy. He had to keep an eye on her, he thought. Yeah, he couldn’t just leave her all fucking-up everything. He was supposed to graduate this year!
It was a serious affair.
The clock showed 4:30 PM, Mina had been waiting in front of the library for an hour and a half. She stood in front of the library doors, shifting her weight from one foot to the other. Students kept passing by her, laughing, talking about their day, heading home. Maybe she forgot, Mina thought at first. But the longer she waited, the heavier the feeling in her chest became. Maybe… she didn’t forget. Her eyes drifted to the exit doors, watching the parking lot slowly becoming empty. She could almost picture You hanging out with Heather or whatever popular girls, laughing, fitting in like you were meant to be there all along. She probably ditched me, Mina thought bitterly. Why would she choose the library when she could be with them? She sighed and hugged her books tighter against her chest.
Since your first day, you had talked to her like she actually mattered. No fake smile. No judgment. Just… normal. Easy. Comfortable. There had been something between the two of you. Not romantic; but something close. That strange, warm feeling you get when you realize you could become close friends with someone without even trying. Mina looked down at the floor. I shouldn’t have believed it, she told herself. People like her don’t stay with people like me.
Footsteps echoed behind her, and she turned, hoping it was you. Ready to tease you about being late, but the words got stuck in her throat. "Waiting for someone?" a mocking voice said; it was Heather, stopping on her way to the exit. Just to confront Mina. "Oh," Heather smiled, pretending to be sad. "Let me guess—you’re waiting for her?" She feigned a sympathetic expression. "Poor you, Mina. The first time you try to upgrade your friend circle, you get ditched. What a shame." For a moment, the two girls locked eyes, each waiting for the other to react. Mina chose not to respond, clenching her fists and gripping her skirt. Finally, Heather spoke again: "Well, let me help you by telling you something, in case you don’t get it. She already left. Probably with us. You know… where she belongs." Mina knew, but refused to believe it. "Oh," she whispered. "Okay." Heather walked away toward the exit, smiling with satisfaction.
Mina stayed a few moments longer, staring at the library doors. Then she left, stepping outside where no one else was around. She grabbed her pastel yellow bike and pedaled home, carrying a heavy heart. Pedaling her bike, she lifted her eyes to the sky turning pink-orange, a sign of beautiful weather for tomorrow. Today was too perfect a day for me, she thought. It was selfish of her to think that after school she and you could have shared a milkshake or some snacks while watching the sunset and enjoying each other’s company. The sun was almost set when Mina was nearly home; and someone, hard to see because of the dim light or her poor vision, bolted onto the road, waving frantically. "MINA, IT’S ME! Stop!"
She braked sharply, her Converse scraping the asphalt. She was so surprised that she didn’t notice you guiding her toward the sidewalk with a gentle hug. "I am so, so sorry, Mina. Gosh, I—" Mina was in a trance, listening as you rushed to explain why you hadn’t come to the library; she catches something between forced to hang out with the popular crowd and losing track of time. Even if she didn’t understand everything because you spoke so fast… she nodded, accepting your apology. She was too amazed that you had walked almost three kilometers from the high school to find her.
Feeling guilty, you suggested grabbing a milkshake. Mina seemed to accept. She left her bike at home, and you walked together to the diner. Mina could hardly believe it you had really done this for her. She wasn’t upset or feeling betrayed anymore. The walk was peaceful, the silence soothing. You both shared a milkshake, then Mina offered to walk you home. Both of you happened to take the same route to the school anyway. The sky had darkened, the first stars beginning to appear. The walk was filled with small conversations here and there until a van drove past, stopping abruptly a few meters ahead. "Uhh, what just happened?" Mina murmured, too intrigued to wait for a response.
Oh… you knew that van.

𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 : A new student is coming to Hawkins High, well a model and everyone knows that. No one has seen her yet, but rumors are already flying, and everyone is trying to guess who she really is. Just trying to clear her head and take her puppy out for some fresh air, she’s already faced with a… somewhat awkward situation.
𝗔/𝗡 : so it’s definitely not my first fanfiction, but i haven’t write since a long time so please be nice. also english is not my first language. reader can be whoever you wish, the only thing i precise is that she used to lives in Paris. i wrote this in 6 hours wtf and i struggle a bit with dialogues… also there will be more parts. have a good lecture 2026 eddie munson fan survivor.
There was a rumor going around the halls of Hawkins High: a new student was coming. Hawkins was a small town where basically everyone knew everyone else, so when a new face showed up, all eyes were on them and whispers followed everywhere.
At lunchtime, we could hear the popular girls and the jocks placing bets.
“Listen guys, i swear the new face I saw at Enzo’s were that Swedish blondie with her fine boobs. Even tho i didn’t have the chance to saw them with these cold temperatures… Isn’t her name’s Anna Ekstram- “ Lena Ekström you mean.“ Amanda corrected Andy, giving him a side eye “yeah whatever her name, there is no way she’s blonde, my father said to me he saw a red-haired cutie and it’s definitely Victoria Ashford.“ “from The Face? Chrissy asked, which Brittany respond excitally : “Yes! Gosh since her last photoshoot in London i want sooo bad tartan-patterned thighs, i don’t know if it’s too kitsch but she wore them so perfectly that i need’ em.“ Her comment drew mixed reactions, the girls were completely on board, while their boyfriends were more hesitant which sparked a debate and ended the discussion.
Lunch gave way to afternoon classes.
Gareth was lost in thought, as usual during Ms. Grant’s class; too busy thinking of different strategies to keep his new D&D character from dying in the next campaign, with Eddie surely up to some scheme… Pretending to take notes on the “fascinating” lesson about Rocks, Minerals, and Earth’s Layers. So absorbed in his thoughts that he thought he heard Ms. Grant calling someone, and naturally assumed she meant him. To his surprise, she was addressing Heather and Nicole. “Seriously, girls?!, When will you ever stop chatting? And this isn’t the first time! Do I have to give you both detention? Hmm.” If it had been him and Jeff, Gareth thought, they would already have been kicked out of class with a punishment… Popular girls’ manipulation. A power they alone owned. “Ms. Grant, sorry… we—we were just talking about Amanda’s replacement for the next cheerleading session since she got hurt,” Nicole offered a semi-convincing smile.
Everyone in the room except Ms. Grant knew they weren’t talking about Amanda; the duo was obviously gossiping. Ms. Grant’s eyes shifted from Heather to Nicole, narrowing to put pressure on them. When that didn’t work, she sighed loudly and said in a monotone voice: “Alright, both of you, this is the last time. If it happens again, you’ll be disciplined.” The girls gave a hypocritical thank you.
popular girls manipulation, an unfair power.
Now distracted from his main mission, Gareth tried to focus on the lesson. He definitely didn’t want to be the next target of the demon that was Ms. Grant…Not even five minutes of silence had settled in the classroom, with students pretending to listen, before the duo resumed their not-so-Amanda-centered conversation.
“So yeah, I was telling you about her—“from Vogue France, the one from two years ago?” Oh yeah, definitely, not worrying at all about Amanda’s replacement.
And with that, the afternoon went on as usual.
there we are, the favorite part of the day for the freaks. Hellfire club. After a long and exhausting day this is the best thing hawkins high-school can give. “Boys, today we cannot start a new campaign.” Eddie start, which made the others groan.“Well, first of all, Jeff and Sinclair are missing, AND I have to restock my business.” Eddie added. “Seriously, Eddie?!” Dustin exclaimed. “This is against the rules, come on. No extra activities during Hellfire time!” “I know, I know, Henderson, but I’m out of stuff, so I need to go to Rick. We’ve got fifteen minutes left, so we can either work on the lyrics of our song or… have i don’t know…a boys conversation? Whatever you guys want.” “Man, there’s no way we’re going back to the lyrics. We already agreed on the final version!” Doug reminded him, in a condescending tone. “Jesus! Okay, man, it’s not a big deal!” Eddie snapped. With that, the conversation ended, leaving a silence. The five boys all sat in their chairs, staring at a corner of the room, not really thinking about anything.
“Heard there’s a new student coming,” Gareth broke the silence that had settled around them. Mike was the first to respond: “I heard it’s a model with like a million names because the Hawkins royalty can’t agree on who she is.” “A model? Seriously?” Doug asked. “Yeah. Nicole and Heather were gossiping about her in science class, and they got scolded by Ms. Grant. Guys, I’m telling you, she doesn’t even exist. My sister forced me to hang out with her all the weekend, and honestly, I didn’t see a single pretty face.” Doug shot Gareth a sarcastic look. “Yeah, that’s probably because your taste in women sucks.” “What did you just say? At least in my life I’ve had girls interested in me, unlike you.” “Ah ah, girls—with an S? Are you sure, Gareth? Because last time I checked, the only girl who ever had a crush on you was actually—”
“BOYS!” Eddie screamed, immediately ending the dramatic argument. He continued, “We don’t care. The only thing I know is : this ‘who cares, model with a million names’ is probably the unluckiest girl in this town, as far as I’m concerned.” “I agree. Imagine coming from a big city just to end up in this hell called Hawkins.”
The boys laughed, and left their Hellfire session early.
The curse of ending up in a crappy little town in the middle of Indiana… Yeah, that’s definitely the worst decision your dad could have made in his life. Being in the special forces, he was called in to help with the mysterious events in Hawkins. What a hero. Because in reality, the closest and actually decent military base is in Chicago. Which means you end up alone in a strange house, everything works differently than in Europe, obviously, otherwise it wouldn’t be fun. With all that burden, the only good thing is the company of a Belgian Malinois that dad got from the military. Said like that, you’d think he’s fierce… but he has the cutest little face, eyes shining, staring at you like you’re his sworn god. He’s still a puppy, but already big for his age and intelligent. Of course, you’ll have to train him, which you’ll happily do after classes.
Yeah, this dog is the only good thing here.
But right now, you’re getting ready mentally and physically, mostly mentally for your late start back to school at Hawkins High tomorrow. Wow, what a dream…
You already have your diploma from last year. Well, it’s not an American diploma, but it counts, right? That’s not the point. Your father said it was more a matter of integrity.
“WOOF!”
Oh, someone needs attention. “Ace, what’s up, baby? Do you want to eat?” Your eyes drift to his bowl, which is obviously empty even though you filled it barely thirty minutes ago… This puppy might be growing, but he definitely shouldn’t be eating every hour and a half. You glance at the window facing the forest not far from the house. Getting some fresh air wouldn’t be so bad. Clearing your head and walking Ace sounds like a good idea, you think. The puppy stays seated, staring at you with his bright eyes, then tilts his head to the side, making one ear flop down. Cute… you think.
The sun is slowly setting, and the temperature is dropping, as if it weren’t already cold enough for March. The walk through the forest is pleasant. Even if the trees block most of the view, the nearby houses are reassuring. There seems to be a lake or something close by, since some of the cabins have boats and fishing gear. Too lost in your thoughts about tomorrow, you wander a little farther from home. But it’s fine—the sun hasn’t fully set yet, leaving the sky completely orange. There’s nothing to worry about, you tell yourself. It’s not the first time you’ve had to start at a new school. The only difference is that it’s not in Paris, where you spent your last three years in that strict high school only accessible if you had the Legion of Honor… or a lot of money. So if you survived that, you can survive anythi—
“WOOF! WOOF!”
You don’t even have time to react before Ace slips out of his useless little harness and runs straight toward two men coming out of one of the cabins near the lake. The two guys look just as surprised and don’t have time to react either. One of them has his arms full of boxes. You can’t really see what’s inside, but they smell… strong. Without hesitation, Ace jumps at him and starts attacking—well, gently biting with his baby teeth—the man’s jeans. You sprint toward them after hearing the stranger’s startled shout. “HEY, ACE! Come here—oh, excuse me!” You grab Ace and pull him back, out of breath. “I—I’m really so, so sorry, he just got away from me and I—uh…” “Don’t worry, miss,” the older man by the door says first. “This little gremlin is just curious, isn’t he?” He seems nice… but you can’t tell if the smell comes from him or from the boxes. Either way, it smells like drugs. Not like you’re going to ask.
The other man finally speaks, stepping a meter away from you dramatically, as if he suddenly understood why the dog attacked him. “Yeah, no big deal—totally… uh… I’m just gonna put these in the back of my van if—” “I can help you, wait.”You walk toward him and open the back of his van. You don’t miss Ace in your arms, trying to bite at something again—probably the little bag hanging from one of the boxes. As he bend down to place the boxes inside, the little bag falls out. You pick it up… and there it is…Exactly what you thought. Drugs. An awkward silence settles between the three of you. You decide to break it. “Oh—uh… I guess this is yours… haha…”
Now that you really look at him, the guy is clearly your age, or close. With his long hair and his style, you can easily tell he’s a metalhead. His face shows pure shock and embarrassment, like a deer caught in headlights. Wow. What a comparison. He snatches the baggie from your hand and shoves it back into the box, then straightens up and laughs awkwardly.
“THANKS—thanks, uh… well—” He avoids your eyes (and Ace’s) and turns to the older man, whose name seems to be Rick. “—Thanks for that, dude. Uh… see you soon, I guess.” “No problem, Edward, anytime,” Rick replies with a huge smile and the attitude of someone definitely not sober. He shuts the door of his cabin, leaving you, Ace, and Edward alone outside. “So, I’m gonna go—uh, thanks again,” Edward says quickly, not giving you time to answer, already heading for the driver’s seat to escape the situation. “No problem,” you reply. And just like that, he’s gone.
You walk back home alone, Ace in your arms on the safe side of the road. “He could’ve driven me home, just to erase this whole embarrassing scene,” you tell Ace, trying to process what just happened. “Well… at least they didn’t try to kidnap me or, I don’t know… murder me on my first week here.” Ace whines softly, as if agreeing.
Wow. What a night… Let’s hope tomorrow will be better.
It won’t be.
