My country wanted to organize the 2018 world cup and I remember when it was announced it would be Russia and not us. I was so disappointed. But today I’m happy. I cannot imagine hosting the world cup AND eliminating one of the best teams in the world. The FIFA world cup isn’t (only) about world-class players. It’s about ambition, hard work, team spirit, fair play, determination and so many other things. These are things underdogs definitely have too. Congratulations to Akinfeev and his team.

This truly is the world cup of underdogs. We’ll remember you : Iceland, Nigeria, Senegal, South Korea, Morocco, Iran, Russia, Croatia. Thank you for fighting against the odds and honoring football.
