Noah Wyle wrote a character in season 3 episode 3 of the Pitt based on an activist friend of his, who was arrested alongside Noah and 100 other ADAPT disability rights activists in Washington DC in 2012. Here are some footage from the protest along with the LA Times the Envelope podcast interview.

oh the comfort of being able to feel angry towards someone you know won’t leave you. robby with his abandonment issues pushing jack away because he feels like he deserves to be alone & jack refusing to ever leave him alone, he wants to spend the rest of their very long life together.

if I had a nickel for every time Noah Wyle played a character who was struggling with their mental health and got a hug from a respected peer that he’s shipped with I would have two nickels, which doesn’t seem like a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.

tough little girl // little girls can be just as tough as little boys, even tougher // yes, I just hope it's not because she's become accustomed to pain.

the way that's. that's trinity. that is trinity. she is that tough little girl that became accustomed to pain. trinity essentially had no choice but to "toughen up", build walls, just to survive. she values strength, is almost defensive of it— robby wasn't insinuating that little girls can't be as tough as little boys, but trinity has been made to stand up for herself over and over when no one else will, so she's used to that coming into question. and she is strong, but it's not a good thing that she had to be.

robby with his quiet understanding, his quiet concern. his acknowledgement that kylie is tough but he hopes it's not because she has to be. but his concern isn't directed all to kylie, it's directed to trinity.

"I can have dr al-hashimi.." "no, she's my patient. I can do it."

this little moment, where he gives her an out, gives her a way to not expose herself to a possible trigger, makes me think that he knows, at least vaguely, some of what happened to her. there's most likely a specific reason why she is the character he pushes to see the trauma counselor, twice, and nobody else.

but there's also the fact that he doesn't infantilize her. he shows concern, he clearly cares. he wants her to know she doesn't have to do it if she doesn't want to. but she does want to do it, she wants to be the one to take care of kylie, not let her slip through the cracks, and he doesn't push back on it. nods, lets her do her thing. trusts her skills. compliments her patient advocacy to baran.

god I could yap so much about them.

incredible point of view i agree with wholeheartedly and an interesting insight into baran i hadn't thought of before.

listen I know the running bit is "trinity santos peds calls to you..." but I'm actually such a huge fan of the fact that trinity is not shown to particularly like kids. she's understandably irritated by baby jane doe's crying, (doesn't she even make a comment about how "this is why I didn't go into peds.." or am I hallucinating that lol) and she makes a couple other (funny) comments that give the impression she would rather be doing anything else.

I think what's beautiful about trinity santos + kids in s2 is that she is so kind and good to them despite not having a particular enjoyment of them. softening herself when she talks to Kylie, going the distance to make sure she's safe. singing a lullaby to BJD. comforting the boy who got his fingers blown off, gentle, soothing. trying to fight against an impossibly broken system to find some other way for the boy to have both his parents and his sister at the same time, to have a chance at a better life despite the hopelessness of it.

trinity santos is kind to children and that does not make her a mother. that does not make her a peds doctor. it doesn't make her find some particular love for them. and I fucking love that interpretation way more, because so many times, media will center women around children as if it's their "calling". they motherify so many female characters. they didn't twist trinity into a motherly character she doesn't embody.

the fact that she's good to children is because she's just a good fucking person. and because inside her is a child who was taken advantage of and hurt very badly, so children are probably easier to empathize with. she relates specifically to feeling so much pain whilst being young and scared and confused. and most children have an innocence that does break down barriers and shells. trinity adapts to that communication style. you have to match a child's innocence.

anyways I thought her arc was rich and in character. she's quick thinking and adaptable, she likes the rush of traumas, "strong patient advocate", etc etc... her character isn't suited for peds. it's suited for the ER. she just has a good fucking heart. idk if I explained this very well but it was soo important to me as someone who doesn't particularly "like" kids but will always always be sweet to them because. they're just kids.
