I'mma go on a rant for a sec. Earthspark has problems, but it also has really good moments that leave me wishing the show explored the mainstream characters WAY more in this new take instead of the Terrans. Fire and Ice, for example, the episode where a rage virus infects the Autobots, Megatron becomes infected too, but unlike the others, it doesn't take him over, when the Terrans question why Megatron isn't going insane and attacking them despite the Autobots all attacking each other, Megatron simply replies, "I know hate." and it's like, duh! this dude lived for thousands of years filled with hate and anger but he still managed to be a successful leader, i.e. he still had control of himself, not ALL the time, but by the point of this episode he's also learned to LET GO of hate, so the virus isn't nearly as affective on him as it is on Optimus and the others
or Megs and Op were MATURE and actually had a grown-up conversation, I was like 'Look at the babies being so grown up for once in their lives! See?! You CAN Do it!' lol
M: Thank you for rescuing me.
O: Now we're even. You rescued me on Prowl's ship, despite my order.
M: I need you to understand if I am to be an effective teammate you also must listen.
O: I need you to cease challenging my every decision.
M: Someone must question your leadership, Optimus. If you leave authority unchecked it can lead to tyranny. Who knows better than I? If we're going to make this partnership work we must trust each other.
O: I trust you with my life.
M: And I trust you with mine, brother.
like what is this ACTUAL conversation? with someone ACTUALLY giving Optimus what he needs to hear? and it's MEGATRON?! what?!, like the ES team can pull off THAT… but then do all the other dumb shit like singing to overcome Soundwave's weaponized sound… I don't get it
this show is bipolar I swear, lol
honestly I like Earthspark but I would like it a LOT more if the focus was still on the main Transformers characters and exploring them in this new world with the Terrans still as important characters but not the main focus, also NOT ALLOWING CHILDREN TO ACTIVELY TAKE PART IN THE FIGHTING
more focus on Megatron and Dot's relationship, it's so unique to Megatron, even late game IDW Autobot Megatron likely wouldn't have gotten around to something like that
they finally give us a Megatron actively seeking redemption in animation and he's a sidelined character, COME ON!!!
ES Megatron is still easily one of the best parts of the show because he's trying but also he's not perfect, he's not suddenly Optimus 2.0, he screws up, he's more aggressive, he's still figuring out how to trust when he's afraid to except for a select few people as we when his first impulse when he goes after Starscream is violence, not that Starscream is innocent, Megatron doesn't trust him for a reason and Starscream doesn't trust Megatron for a reason, the show handles their relationship okay, shame on Megatron's end, extending an olive branch, and Starscream naturally taking advantage later, but it's a toxic thing on both end not just Megatron's side
Megatron does very little justifying as well, the episode where he takes the kids to the Space Bridge Memorial is one of my favorites because he's trying to teach them, he's trying to show them the mistakes of the generation before them so they don't make the same ones
Megatron and Optimus, I love their relationship, and I love that they still don't agree or get along all the time, they butt heads, they argue, despite their age and experience they're both still learning to trust each other and how to navigate their partnership and it sort of reminds the audience that to these guys 15 years is NOT a long time, so no they don't have it down to a science yet
Optimus is a bit goofy but as ES seems to be drawing from all continuities that can be forgiven as a bit of a draw from G1 Op, he's still handled really well in the show
Earthspark has it's problems, plenty of them in my opinion, but when it does an episode, a scene, a conversation right it does it REALLY right
