ARE YOU READY FOR MORE TANGLE AND WHISPER (and Silver too)? Phantom Squad is back! The next 4 pages release this Wednesday, July 2nd! We know the wait has been long, but our team has been working hard on several batches of pages. We're excited to kick this story back into gear!

Hi! i was thinking of starting a fan comic and was wondering, you do you have all this set up? did you pick out artists or did the artists come to you? if it was the latter how did you advertise the listings and stay in contact? is this volunteer or paid? what's the workflow like? (asking for advice)

Howdy! Cool to meet another aspiring fan comic creator! When we started, we spent a good while writing out a majority of the story, planning out character ideas, etc. We wanted to make sure we were ready for the artists, instead of trying to rush the writing. Once we were satisfied with what we had written, we reached out to artists. Any artist we thought would be cool to have on the team. We also put out a help wanted post, in case talented artists found us that we weren't aware of. We made it very clear the comic is VOLUNTEER only. No payments, just artists coming together for the love of IDW and the story as a whole. We use a Discord server to keep the team informed, and to allow for easy communication between all parts of the comic production process. We give them the script, and have the artists work in 4 page chunks. One does pencils, one does inks, one does coloring and shading, and then Hagus (one of our writers/directors) does the lettering. Making comics is a long, hard process, so spacing out the work and making sure nobody feels rushed or overworked is important. Also, lot of it is trial and error. Artists have irl things happen, and you have to be willing to adjust and adapt accordingly. At the end of the day, just make sure you're READY for artists. Have an easy to read script ready. Be prepared to answer questions. But most importantly, have fun with it. It's a fan work. You don't have a deadline to produce pages, so don't stress if things take a while. Quality over quantity!
