Warning, hot take about Poisonous plants β³οΈ
For as much of my magical practice (and autistic special interest) is tied up in knowledge of poisonous plants, I donβt feel like I connect with the poison path label. I donβt use flying ointments or any other entheogenic application of these plant allies, and I donβt have the space or skills to safely grow the plants themselves. Instead, I work with representations and research, and while I deeply appreciate my connection to them, it feels so separate from how βthe poison pathβ appears.
The "Poison" in Poison Path doesn't only stand for poisonous plants ! Although plants are a huge part of this path, it doesn't implies that you HAVE to physically work with them. During entheogenic plant-induced altered state of consciousness, it's ultimately the plant's spirit that we meet- it's their spirit that we seek to learn from. And it can be achieved by many other means!
Poison here is also about mood-altering habits: coffee, tea, cocoa, tobacco... are psychoactive. They are, in their original cultural and ceremonial contexts, entheogens.
To me, it is also about poisons such as traumas, incurable illnesses... facing them and accepting them as part of you, taking back their power and turning it as a strenght.
The Poison Path isn't all about death/growing poisons/dark aesthetic/black magic... It's not about how people will see you, how you try to look on the outside.
It's about how you look at the Poison in the otherness, and in yourself- and harness it.
