I just had an experience that I’m not sure I’d believe if I hadn’t done it.
For context: I’m still living with my parents for all of two more days. My little sister is 17 and has a healthier social life than I did at that age, so she has a curfew. It’s currently 2:13am, which is well-past curfew.
Now I’m up anyway because I’m between jobs and so my sleep schedule went out the window. My dad was awake doing some stressed seething because she wasn’t home yet and wasn’t answering his texts or calls. The very reasonable assumption was that she fell asleep at her boyfriend’s house, where we knew she was.
I can say, now, at 2:14, she has come home safely and is getting a talking-to downstairs.
I admit, my anxiety-prone mind was thinking of worst-case scenarios. What if she was murdered???? I decided, as much for my own peace of mind as anything, to try to find her in spirit flight.
Now I’m not by any means an expert at this. I have no training whatsoever and I didn’t even realize what I did could be considered spirit flight until I read a description in a book that perfectly matched my stumbled-upon method. But I do like my method and have found it useful in the past for speaking to spirits.
I went into the deep meditation I use for this: body scan to relax deeply, imagine walking down a staircase, open a door to wherever you intend to go. My only intention was to find my sister.
I didn’t really get good details because I’ve never been to this guy’s house, but I had a strong sense that, indeed, she and the boyfriend were asleep on a couch. It was comfortable. Warm. Trusting.
I tried to wake her. Simple as that. She felt as difficult to rouse as she does in the physical world (this girl slept through a fire alarm as a toddler), but I kept shaking her gently. Told her it was late and she really needed to come home. Dad’s not happy. I’m concerned. We have plans tomorrow. I’m so glad you feel so loved and safe here, but you need to wake up and come home.
And then I pulled myself out of meditation and waited. Minutes later, I heard dad get the phone call that she was headed home.
It may in fact have been coincidence. Of course it could have. I have no idea if she had any kind of dream or sense that she was being woken by anything, let alone me. I’m going to do her the grace of pretending this never happened.
But I feel like I did it.
