we need more divorcebaiting. how strongly can canon imply (without technically outright stating) that these two characters are bitterly, acrimoniously divorced? essential we explore this
please note that this relates to but is distinct from a separate trope we also need more of: These Two Characters Definitely Had An Ill-Advised Hook Up At Some Undisclosed Point, And Are Living In The Weird Aftermath
Isekai except the fantasy world is literally just like a ten minute hike away from everything else and has just explicitly never been found.
The protagonist gets hit by a truck but instead of dying they roll down a comically tall hill through like a mile of woods and then they wake up in a fantasy village
HEARTBREAKING: band you just discovered doesn't have any other songs that sound like that
Altogether, I really like the way americans say "can I help you?" as a polite general one-size-fits-all stand-in for "who the fuck are you/what the fuck are you doing here/how the fuck did you get in here/what the fuck are you staring at/what is your fucking problem." Such a polite way of going "bitch what the fuck."
Just today there was a woman inexplicably taking photos of our building and my manager asked me if I thought she could take this woman in a fight before she walked out and sweetly said, "excuse me! 🙂🙂 Can I help you?"
Me: I don't get it. I thought I was doing a lot better than I was a few years ago. I'm like 10 times more on top of things than I used to be. How does everything feel terrible now?
The Tiny Me in OSHA-approved Hi-Vis Gear Who lives in my brain and pulls all the levers: Boss, it's the fascism. You're completely gunked up with cortisol due to the fact that your entire daily life is now underscored with a haunting awareness of the rapid erosion of your rights, dignity, and any and all social safety nets, and you're also bearing witness to the most vulnerable people immediately being persecuted. This creates a natural stress response that basically means you're going to continue having memory and organizational problems, as well as emotional imbalances.

Keen to understand how fucked the egg situation is in the US. I’m guessing the avian flu has led to a shortage?
Like threatening to annex Greenland and begging Denmark for eggs is a choice, so how desperate is everyone for eggs?
It’s honestly not that bad? Like the price is a bit higher but where I am they’re on the shelves?
Guessing where you are the eggs are fresher? From what I’ve heard food quality across the US varies wildly.
I work in the egg industry in the middle-man shipping part.
The short version is, the avian influenza has taken out several million laying hens this year alone, and that's not including anything that happened last year. The conventional egg market has gone nuts as a result of the loss of so many layers. Now it's deeply affecting other markets as well, such as the carefree/organic eggs (though they can still be found cheaper than conventional) and liquid eggs. Even if new baby chickens are brought in now, they will not be ready for productive laying for another few months.
The long answer is: the folks in charge of the laying hens are pushing for vaccinations to be made readily available to inoculate their flocks against the disease, but there is debate over whether it should be made available because it could affect import/export markets. Broilers (the chickens that are used for meat) have been virtually unaffected by the avian influenza at this time, and the US is one of the world's biggest exporters of them. There are many countries who do not want to take inoculated broilers out of the fear that vaccination does not eradicate the virus, only keeps the birds asymptomatic, so they might carry the virus over (broilers would have to be vaccinated the same way as laying hens if vaccines were to roll out).
So the debate right now is, if a vaccine does what it's meant to and curbs the spread of the virus, it could severely impact the income from our broiler exports even as it improved our domestic egg market.
Right now, the domestic market is improving because of the sheer amount of consumer rejection at the retail level, and some flocks have been restored to a degree, leading to a recent significant price drop. However, it's migration season for the wild birds that are spreading the virus, and it's almost Easter. The prices will be going back up.
This is not professional advice, but I've heard very little about privately owned chickens being affected by the virus, so if you know somebody local who needs to offload some eggs (and independent chicken owners usually do) I'd recommend hitting them up.

PUBLIC COMMENTS ARE OPEN FOR GENDER IDENTIFIERS ON US PASSPORTS
Right now, you can submit a comment for consideration on the proposed changes to US Passport law that will include requiring a change from "Gender" to "Sex" on all passports and require that people identify with their sex assigned at birth.
THIS IS THE LAW THAT WOULD BAN TRANS PEOPLE FROM UPDATING THEIR IDENTIFICATION
Please take a moment to click through and submit a comment. This kind of thing is fast, easy, and is one of the many ways to show your support of the trans community to the people that need to know how many of us there are.
YOU HAVE TWO MORE WEEKS TO COMMENT
This is an excellent low effort way to make a clear statement to the government that you do NOT support the unnecessary and expensive process of changing everyone's passport just so that a tiny population that has done no measurable harm to society can feel afraid.
Public comments are one of the many tactics we have to show the people in power how many of us are willing to stand up and say fuck this. Stand up and say fuck this in every single place that you can.
Writing Effective Comments
Will accept comments up to March 17, 2025.
There's only 12,000 comments. We can do better!
what will it be, boss? the comfort of misery or the pain of change?
Finally! We've waited a little while to record this episode (somebody was a little slow about finishing the dang thing), but it's finally here! Two HOURS of excited lore-discussion and delighting in all the wonderful NPCs.
Hope you all enjoy listening to it as much as we did recording it!
